One of my pet subjects is rival's cars bought by Detroit automakers. I was surpr4ised to read today that Bill Mitchell of GM had GM buy a 904GTS, apparently new with no racing history attached. On Porsche SN sites I found this info:
"Originally delivered to Tage Hansen of Lexington, Mass. for General Motors. GM kept the car until 1971 for use in its development of the Corvette. The car was sold in 1971 to Marvin Wienman of Rhode Island. Though unverified, and possibly urban legend, the story goes that Mr. Wienman could not find reverse and pretty much gave up on the car after only eight months. He sold the car to Bill Steen of Shreveport"

I am only curious to hear what GM sold it for--I am predicting around $6000. I know a former GM designer who bought their Mangusta for about that price--what they would do is list these foreign cars they evaluated as available once they were done with them and designers and engineers that knew about it within GM could bid before dealers could get in on it.
Much later on it belonged to Picasso's son, who apparently has a racing Porsche collection.
