I'm starting this thread because my girlfriend just IM'd me this picture and I needed a place to post it.  Searched and realized the thread isn't made yet.

The kicker?  I can't go because I have a pretty important meeting on Friday.

Gutted.

Looking forward to this one, Baltimore always seems to be a strange race (although hopefully won't be the crash fest that was Sonoma).

So we've got some on track activity apparently but without a proper OP I have no idea what's going on  :p

Seems like the fast way around is to cut the chicane getting 2-4 wheels off the ground.  Some interesting pictures from Baltimore.  Seems Power and Rahal have found some Mojo

Seems an odd place for a race:

But maybe you don't mean that Baltimore? :p

I could certainly imagine a bunch of Vanwalls, BRMs and the like tearing up those streets.

That last chicane is truly hideous. Going to be a caution-fest if it stays as it is.

They've still got that final chicane? I'd have thought they have sorted something out by now.

That's not Baltimore.

It was posted in response to the inevitable tirade of "flying Dallaras!!!111oneone". Not that I'm a fan of Baltimore, too many street circuits on the current schedule. The rail tracks are going to send your airborne if you're doing 45mph in a Camry, that's just how they were built. If there was a better solution it would be in place by now.

All I thought was "dat Kool Green livery :smoking: ". And then actually lit up a cigarette.

Finally got around to watching the post-race stuff at Sonoma. lol @ Dixon's "dick move" comment. All the subtlety you would expect from a man who just ran over another guy's pit crew.

Just got around to watching the last half of the race -- Dixon creamed that guy, and frankly, the pit guy had no where else to go.  So I blame Dixon.

Having said that, the pits are too tight, so ultimately I blame Indycar.  Cripes, they hold NASCAR races there, with a field of 7000.  If the pit boxes are wide enough for NASCAR, why aren't they wide enough for Indycar (with a field of 25 or so)?

So we're just gonna let OLB get away with this? Depriving us of Andrew's OP goodness?

BTW, is the chicane the same as last year?

Practice 2 Highlights. If that is how the chicane was last year then it hasn't changed.

I think this is more how it was at the first race in '11. Last year they tried without a chicane first, then installed a different and faster one (just left-right). I liked it, it was super challenging.

It's funny how every year we come here it seems to be that everybody assumes somebody will have done something about the chicane, but because everybody has assumed that, nobody does anything - so nothing changes. Then the cycle starts all over again...

I know it's Indy Lights, but Peter Dempsey gives his mechanics something to do this afternoon after free practice...

The hole in the wall on the exit of chicane is ridicolous, I can see someone crashing there in the race. I doubt it'd be as bad as Waltrip's crash at Bristol back in time, but it could be something nasty.

It's not angled in the same way though. It's a cut out but it's protected from the car side.

Huge pile-up at the start of the ALMS race, involving eight cars. Hopefully we don't see a repeat of that in the IndyCar race tomorrow.

Yeah I saw that.

But keep in mind that in ALMS there are multiple formulas on track at the same time, and there is much greater standard deviation in the level of driving.

They'll be fine tomorrow--the pileup will be in Turn 1!

You'll probably be right (on both counts  ) but I still think it is a rather stupid circuit. That chicane in particular is asking for trouble. Do they want to see expensive racing cars getting damaged, or something?

There has been a lot of terrible street circuits over the years, but this one should rank pretty close to the top of that list...

I had a few good bits but truthfully it would've been the weakest OP to date.

I think I may be getting more perverse in my old age but I love the chicane.  I wish they had a channel devoted just to watching cars go through/over/into it.

The highlight of qualifying may have been Dario giving props to Newgarden as the chicane-master.

Indycar is going to have to go a LONG way to match that race for the sheer amount of ridiculousness. That was nuts.

So we get about 30-40 minutes of Trucks at Mosport before we need to tune in for Indycar. I think that will be enough to satisfy my curiosity. And Indycar is making a strong counter-bid with their chicane.

That ALMS race was chaotic and a bit ridiculous. First the "big one" before the first corner which wiped out half the GT field, and then the hour or so of red flag, meaning a race of about an hour and 15.

Then the restart - that was aborted. Then another restart. Then about 4 laps of green before a caution. Then a multitude of cars doing their best to knock the chicane halfway down the straight.

The GTC field probably had the cleanest racing and the fewest foul ups. I remember some time back, one of the chaotic Indy Car races was edited with the Benny Hill theme tune music in the background. I think it needs to be done again for that ALMS race :well:
