Same here. I honestly cannot see how 2012 can be rated as higher than 2000, which for me was a real heavyweight battle.

The races in 2012 were generally better.

There was a fantastic suspense about the championship but there were some pretty stale races in 2000. It was almost purely Ferrari vs. McLaren, and if one or more of the main contenders had some bad luck the race was more or less over. See e.g. the Australian, Spanish and Austrian GPs.

Apart from that, pit strategy was often more decisive than the actual struggle on the track. We all remember Mika's great pass on Michael in Spa, but it was so memorable because a pass for the lead hardly ever happened that year.

Hard choice between 2008 and 2010, i went for 2008. 2000 was good. so was 2007.

Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

2012 was more competitive, had more exciting racing, and a closer championship battle than 2000.

Well no, in 2000, though it was decided in the penultimate round, the protagonists actually raced each other on track big part if not most of the season and kept it remarkably civil on and off track. More exciting racing probably has more to do with ones allegiances than what actually went on on the track.

So what if Mika and Schumi kept it civil, how should that benefit 2000 in any way? Do you rate the Senna vs Prost years as crap, because they didn't keep it civil?

In 2000, we had McLaren and Ferrari win all 17 out of 17 races. In 2012, we had Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, Lotus, Mercedes, and Williams all winning races; and Sauber and Force India coming very close to winning races too.

As for the racing, in 2000 there really weren't many terribly exciting races other than Germany and Japan. On the other hand, in 2012 we had Malaysia, China, Spain, Abu Dhabi, USA, and Brazil all being edge-of-your-seat to watch.

As I said before, nostalgia is a powerful thing. I don't see any single reason to rate 2000 above 2012. 2012 had better racing, a closer championship, and more competitive teams; but people have a habit of looking at the past with rose-tainted glasses.

I took a break from F1 between 2001-2005, I can't comment on them years..Season reviews don't convey it properly.

Best - 2007, an introduction of the new generation mixed in with some crazy off track antics. I thought the racing itself was good at the front of the field, title battle was exciting and the FA vs LH battle was more exciting in itself than other entire seasons.

Worst - 2012, Until the teams got a grip on the tyres I thought the start of the year was dire. It was a complete lottery who won and as such I wasn't watching racing, I was watching the Pirelli Random Result Championship. It got better mid season onwards. Each to their own but another season like that will have me giving up on F1 for a very long time.

2007 This was the season of all seasons. An epic battle between the forces of good and evil where good proved to be the stronger and claimed both titles in the final race. An absolute thriller of a season both on and off the track were good prevailed and justice was served.

2010 An amazing coming of age story of the next F1 prodigy. Vettel's brilliance was tempered only by his youthful exuberance and his learning to tap into the depth of his natural talent. An amazing finish with the champion only ever leading the standings once - after the final race!

2000 A battle of the titans. Excellent racing as the two protagonists went toe to toe. Spa was the scene of an enthralling duel on the limits with one of the greatest passes ever. The victor that year energized himself and his team to go on to greatness and dominate the sport for years to come.

2003 is number #1, 2000 #2 in my book. In 2000 I was rooting strongly for Schumacher and in 2003 I was rooting strongly against him. Its funny how dominance can change a fan's viewpoint.

2000. V10s. Proper passing. No politics. Just racing. Oh...and Schumacher and Hakkinen...

2003, 2008 and 2010, IMO.

2003 was the most exciting tyre war season and there was still a lot more freedom development wise;

2008 was unbelievably exciting and Hamilton won the hardest title ever, against a superior car and FIA doing their best/worst to intefere;

2010 was the last time pushing as hell was possible without the races being tainted by artificial solutions and poor tyres.

Well rarely, that said Schumacher and Häkkinen actually raced each other on track  (as long as it lasted) at

Australia,

Brazil

Imola,

Nürnburgring,

Spain,

Hungary (well perhaps not)

Spa

Monza (well sort of)

Idianapolis

and

Suzuka

Thats more than half the races. Predictable, well so be it, but what probably was the best two drivers in the best two cars duking it out I take anytime, especially if I happen to be a fan of either, over the dominantly tyre preservation practices F1 has turned into.

Despite having followed most of these seasons completely, I find it too difficult make a list from most to least 'exciting'. Excitement is something of a personal feeling based on a lot of variables. In the past 12 years or so, my opinion/awe of F1 changed; the success of the drivers I supported changed; either the fighting on track was good or the title fight was good.

Although if I view this objectively, probably 2003.

2000, 2008, 2006, 2010 and 2012 were really great years.

2007 was something of a classic "on the track" but there was so much debilitating negativity in that season that it's best forgotten about IMO.
