As we all know this is the last year of V8 engines in Formula One but which one do you think had the most beautiful sound?

I can´t tell without example sound clips or something to that effect.

However, this is how it´s supposed to sound: (V10)

the engine sound depends primarily on the 'exhaust setup'. same renault engine on the back of RBR sounds like fart and on the back of a williams sounds like genuine V8 thunder. only the ferrari V8 has any sort of distinguishable tone in the current V8 range.

those teams who have tunnel ramp for coanda have different tone than those with overhang coanda. last season, teams with and without coanda had different note, but the most obvious was during off-throttle blowing era, one could definitely identify a renault from a merc or ferrari.

They honestly all sound the same to me, which is a shame, because in other forms of motorsports, manufacturers have tones that are far more distinct than in F1.

As far as V8s go, I'll take Honda's LM-AR7 any day of the week, but F1's V10s were honestly more impressive.

They all sound the same.

Second that.  The V10's sounded different, as did various other engines of different era's.  With the V8's...

Definitely the Honda, nu question about it. It was by far the loudest back in 2007 and 2008 and the sound coming off it was great.

I've heard the V8s in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2013 form.

The BMW sounded the 'sweetest'. Had the most melody. The Honda was by-far the loudest. Easily recognisable above the others - especially in 2008.

The Mercedes from 2006 had a very odd sound which was probably exhaust-driven. Very 'rough' and deep sounding. In 2008 and onwards it was one of the more high pitched engines.

The Ferrari wasn't anything special, the same as their V10 was more 'rough' sounding than the rest.

Cosworth sounded quite nice, actually.

The Toyota was the worst. Sounded dull.

Still, the late Honda V10 was a work of art. And ear-bending loud.

Only live race I've seen was Brazil 07 (wow), and of the engines I only remember the Honda engines sounding considerably louder than the rest (and the "rest" were LOUD). That made a huge impression on me, so I'm going with the Honda block.

Aside: best looking car was the Ferrari, by far - that red looked spectacular under any sort of light

(Alonso fan)
