So now that we know that Massa will not be driving for Ferrari next year  :| , what could we expect from Massa in 2014?

Different team? (Which?)

Retirement?

3rd driver?

Please share your opinion and related rumors

If not them, then at least for someone.  The WEC is beginning to pick up.  If only Audi built a few copies for sale...

well maybe Sauber cause they would need experienced driver algonside Sirotkin.

YET if Slim will pay for Gutierez next season as well, then all the places there are occupied.

Force India with di Resta and Sutil is rather fine.

Toro Rosso is RBR young program so they will grab one of theirs.

Williams seems to retain Maldonado as sponsor driver and Bottas.

Sauber as mentioned above.

Lotus would be need to go full ****** (YT movie below) to take Massa instead of Hulkenberg. And Grosjean seems to be a bit secured thanks to Renault & Total partnership (unless they will replace him for Vergne or so, but I doubt it). And Hulk deserves a top seat. Massa had top seat for quite long time.

McLaren has 2 better drivers, where one is paying shitload of cash.

So only Caterham and Marussia are left. I highly doubt that Massa would like to join one of these 2.

So it means basically that he is out of Formula 1. Cause he doesn't have sponsors that would pay shitload for him, he isn't as fast as he used to be, and he doesn't have even that big fanbase to be good for selling hats etc. of the team. Simply, a goner.

He must still have some contacts at Sauber, even if it has been 8 years. That and Force India seem like the only options he could go for IMO.

Hulkenberg will probably go to Lotus, alongside Grosjean (Boullier confirmed that if Kimi leaves, Grosjean's seat in guaranteed)

Sauber will be in desperate need of an experienced driver. Two young rookies next year will be disaster (I consider Guitierez still a rookie :p). So Sauber is his best shot, also because of the Ferrari connection. Maybe Sauber gets a discount on the engine when they take him on.

I think he should retire, but maybe he want to stay a little longer, just to prove that he is not as bad as he looked in this last 3 years, even if he goes to a mid-field team, Sabur will be my guess. 3rd drivers is not an option.

Force India would be a great home for Massa. He's superior to their current drivers. They have a decent car and don't hire pay drivers. If I was Force India i'd pick Massa up over Sutil.

Its really the only midfield team left without pay drivers.

Sauber are locked in with the young Russian (Sirotkin) as a pay driver and they will likely run a second pay driver along side him.

Retire with grace and dignity. He's genuinely appreciated by a lot of fans for his character and it would be sad to see him drive anonymously in midfield. I wish that such a nice guy can enjoy time with his family, away from the craziness of F1.

Hopefully to retirement. Watching him pootling around in a midfield team like Michele Alboreto for a few more years would be a bit pointless and undignified. Not to mention blocking it for some younger guy with prospects.

Voted for other: Indycar. Didn't he recently say he wasn't particularly interested in Le Mans/the WEC?

That being said Force India going for him over Sutil does make some sense and may just be the one way out - I think they may end up placing Bianchi there, however.

Well, if Russian backing for Sauber is anywhere near the amount it was rumoured, they will not need a pay-driver in second seat, so I see some chance for Massa to go there (if Hulkenberg leaves for Lotus, or maybe Ferrari), as it makes sense to pair Sirotkin with experienced driver rather than another young driver. There is not much competition for Massa- experienced drivers who were still racing in F1 in 2013 and have no better options than Sauber. And Felipe was their driver in the past so it may help.

If he has an offer from Sauber, I think he should accept it. There are some major changes for next year and some teams can come with surprisingly good cars. Who knows, maybe Sauber will have a good one, and Felipe as a leading driver for them will have a chance for an odd win, which would be great considering how long he didn't win any race in F1. If his car is not good, then he may announce retirement and enjoy a proper last season, have a farewell with all those people and fans like Webber has now. Surely, he may announce retirement this year, but he will need to let things go quickly and will not have much time to celebrate. And it always looks better if you announce retirement before it's certain you will not renew with current team, and it's not the case this year.

I struggle to imagine him at any other F1 team. And there are certainly many things to do for him outside F1 but he is still relatively young so I think it's no rush for him to try something different. If he receive an offer from Sauber or another point-scoring team, he shouldn't refuse IMO.

I think the poll could have more options like specific F1 teams and maybe also some options outside of F1. I hope "3rd driver" is not an option - he is not in an age in which he should wait for opportunities nor is he likely to get them with one year off. I think the most likely options are retirement, DTM and Sauber.

I think Massa might do a Fisichella by going to Force India and rejuvenate himself as a consistent scorer with less pressure.

Sutil has been shite this season.

But I think he could stay with Ferrari as a 3rd driver.

I don't think there will be an F1 opportunity good enough that it should interest him. I've heard calls for him to go to NASCAR or Brazilian V8 Stock Cars, but I think he's better than that. If he can score a good ride in Indycar that would be as good an option for him as any, in my view. Hope he doesn't hang around in the F1 wilderness.

I don't see, why would Massa be an upgrade over Sutil. I don't get the impression. Only thing they might want to see is all the top team knowledge Massa has and Sutil lacks. And maybe a benchmark for di Resta, because for all we know Sutil is pretty unproven driver though he has been around for a while. Like people call Vettel unproven, because he has been in one team a long time and without a top-level teammate.:p

DTM probably. I believe Massa has said in the past he's not too keen on going sports car racing due to the speed difference involved in multi-class racing.

An unlikely scenario, but still:  Massa goes to a midfield team that becomes a top team in 2014.  Massa wins the WDC.  :p What a great story it would be.

I hope he goes to Sauber.

Before his accident, Massa was a very good driver (I'm talking Button and Webber league rather then Fred/Lewis/Seb/Kimi league) but the twin factors of coming back from a serious injury and having Alonso as his team mate have really hurt his career.

If he can get himself to Sauber, establish himself as number one driver and get people working around him, I could believe in the idea of him making some sort of comeback.

I'm going with Sauber as well (assuming Hulk moves to Lotus and Sirotkin gets a full-time drive, which at the moment I think is unlikely, he might end up their third driver for 2014 since a Super-Licence might well prove a stumbling block).

Although I think it would do Massa better to move into a series like the WEC, racing for AF Corse - more chance of success there and he can stay involved in the Ferrari F1 team (as Kobayashi has).

Says who? Perez was chosen for his ability. I've never seen any proof that Perez was chosen for his McLaren seat because of cash, in fact I've never seen any proof that he is a paydriver for McLaren, I highly doubt that.

Massa's F1 carreer will be killed by exactly the same reason why talented new drivers can't get in to F1: the lack of teams and seats! Back in the '80s & '90s new talents could easily get a chance but older drivers could easily stay longer. A good example is Michele Alboreto: he was in the exact same situation at the end of 1988 when Ferrari did not extend his cotnract. But he still drove F1 until 1994 for teams like Tyrrell, Larrousse, Footwork Arrows (in '92 he had an excellent season for them), Scuderia Italia and Minardi. Off course non of those teams are still around these days and that is a major problem for F1 drivers but also for the fans. And just imagine the amount of speculation we could do on a forum with 30 or more cars... I'm sure Massa would still drive in F1 if we had more cars (in 1989 there were 39 cars so Alboreto had enough choice).

What I would like most is Ferrari to start up an LMP1 team for Le Mans and the World Sportscar Championship and to see Felipe Massa in one of those cars (alongside Fisichella, Kobayashi, Kovalainen). Now, that would be exciting! Massa fighting in a Ferrari LMP1 with Webber in a Porsche LMP1 at Le Mans!

Boullier looks surprisingly interested in Massa, so he might have a great chance at Lotus. Poor Hulkenberg then, being outchosen at two topteams. He might have to stick with Sauber again.
