Because he is driving for Sauber at the moment?

Does that stop him from signing a Contract with (Fake) Lotus?

Maybe we should rely on FOM's graphics, where he's probably a Brazilian Dutchman driving for Lotus and Sauber at the same time.

He could get signed with every team for 2014 but he'd still be a Sauber driver. (well you know it but I just wanted to answer to the question  :drunk:  )

i think it's a printing error. or perhaps the person in charge of press releases is a big Nico Hulkenberg fan and want's to stir something up.

Just in case anyone was wondering if teams had persuaded the FIA to bring in a novel way of announcing new driver lineups. From a few hours ago, Alan Baldwin, Reuters F1 correspondent:

alanbaldwinf15h

The FIA have just amended their Thursday presser schedule. The first one had Hulkenberg down as a Lotus driver.

I sometimes suspect the sport's overlords of not quite having an eye for fine detail. The report from the IT in Paris about the Mercedes tyre test had input from Lewis Hamilton and "Jason Button." (http://www.fia.com/s...cision (EN).pdf)

Confirms my suspicions that the FIA does not in fact know anything about motor racing. ;)

Bejeebus, how depressing that we all don't know the intricacies of the German Language.

Since we're splitting hairs... ;)

But anyway - these mistakes happen from time to time. They might have replaced Grosjean with Hülkenberg when they figured out they had already invited Räikkönen, and then simply forgot to change the team name.

I didn't make this topic, the admins split it from the Lotus topic.
Thanks.

Ah, I see, then I'm taking all back (against you ;) )...

Or have the keys on our keyboard

I'm not blaming any forumer for substituting "ü" with "u" in an easy forum chat.

What irks me though, I have to admit, is that not even major English news outlets, and not even the offical F1 site can get this right:
http://www.formula1....rivers/drivers/

The name is Hülkenberg, not Hulkenberg. It's Pérez, not Perez. It's Gutiérrez, not Gutierrez. It's Jean-Éric Vergne, not Jean-Eric.

Jesus Christ, dear F1.com, just write the name of your own drivers correctly, at least in the official driver list, can't be asked too much.

Well, now we can go back on-topic, though that's actually another FIA website error... ;)

Google translate tells me he's not the only driver with a name that actually means something. It would be a shame if some of these got lost in translation:

...

Sutil = hair-splitting (spanish)

...

Since we are already on it: "Sutil" in Spanish means "subtle"

Still trying to guess how Google translate ended up with "hair-splitting", but after seeing some time ago how it translated "overall" from Spanish into English as "flaming monkey" I've learnt to expect anything

When seeing the title, I thought to myself, "That's it. Massa is out of F1."

But now seeing it could have been a "Typo", it's still open field for that seat.

Is Lotus a team worth going to in 2014 (after the departure of key staff)... It could be a big gamble for Hulkenberg, but less so for Massa...

What's Hulkenbergs alternative? Sauber? A team with an uncompetitive midfield car, big financial problems (larger han Lotus) and a Russian teenager as a team mate ....

True...F1 is littered with could have's who made wrong decisions or lost drives to less capable drivers who had big money backing. I personally believe Nico is better than the drive he has but that counts for little in F1, especially now with quite a few very talented drivers racing and only few top tame seats available.

Two people arguing over a small (subtle) difference could be said to be splitting hairs.

Oh! I didn't know hairsplitting meant that, I took it much more literal. Now I know a new word in English. Thanks! :)

Get it together, FIA!

@alanbaldwinf1 10m

The FIA are on for a hat-trick. Today's press conf transcript had Kimi down as a Ferrari driver before amended version issued.

Nico may end up in another situation, again, where he won't see his salary at Lotus.

Yeah, and then people complain he is disloyal. Is Kimi disloyal to leave Lotus?

I'm pretty sure the fellow forum members here would be looking for a new job if they weren't paid by their employer.

I can confirm that. I did in fact leave my last employer because he was paying too late and not correctly at all, he was paying suplliers too late as well, was getting fed up with it. I think many people would do the same.

Certainly depends on the job and how much money you have in the bank.

Ferrari driver in F1 is a "job" that a lot of drivers would do for free if they were already multimillionaires.

The issue is that not getting paid or getting paid little isn't just a problem for a driver or his bank account. Nor does it matter if said driver has much money in the bank in this context.

If you are not getting paid, it indicates bigger problems in the company. In any field basically. If F1 team can't pay you they are unlikely to have a good chance to succeed anyway. Ferrari is not going to struggle to pay you, because they are financially very well off and are a top team. If once comes a day Ferrari struggles to pay you, it means Ferrari as business is in trouble and it is not wise to join them if there are better options.

If you want to be competitive and succeed, you are looking for a stable and good platform. Business that can't pay you aren't those. Hulkenberg wants to be competitive, I say good on him. He isn't satisfied with being unpaid or being stuck in uncertainty.
