The new forum hid posts from someone on your  Ignore List completely to start with, didn't it?

That was my impression and it was great.  I could just forget about those annoyances, unless they were quoted.

Now it's gone back to showing that there is a post, and from whom.  Well If I'm ignoring someone, in the words of one of our heroes... I don't want to know.

Please change it back!

Maybe it's just me, or lots of us, so there's a poll.

Many or even most people don't ignore anyone, that's fine, please let's not debate the pros and cons of ignore lists here though; just if there is someone on Ignore, whether you want to know that they've posted each time.

Personally if it were possible I would even like posts that quote them to be hidden, but I guess that's not an option.

Your memory of the old system is fatally flawed.  The old software also showed that there was a post and from whom, with the option of seeing the post as well.

As for the poll, grow up.  No wonder you've got so many on ignore.

It's been a long time since I used ignore but this is my recollection too.  It doesn't sound like there is any material difference except perhaps the ignored post is potentially more imposing.  Isn't the important point that you can't see the ignored persons opinions?

I wasn't talking about the old software.  You have no idea how many I have on ignore either.  Get a grip, and do something about your manners.

The poll is so the admins can see how members at large feel about it, if it's just me or others too.  Simple enough.

I'm talking about the new software.  I'm pretty sure that to begin with the ignored posts weren't flagged they just didn't show, and that allowed me to forget about the person altogether for long periods.  So is that a setting that you can switch?  That was my assumption.

For me at least, I find I have a pretty good idea what the ignored person's opinion is going to be ;) .  So the forum is a more pleasant place if the post is completely invisible.  The flag is like a default post from that person, if you see what I mean.

No biggie, I just think it's the better option.  I know he's on ignore and don't need reminding all the time.

In the first version of the new software (post-upgrade), ignored posts were hidden in the black border between posts. The black border is now largely non-existent, so ignored posts can't be hidden there anymore. Sounds simple enough.

Personally I'll take the smaller border between posts, thanks. Most people I've bothered to put on ignore are either banned now or don't come here often anymore anyway. ;)

Is it really a big deal?

No it's not a big deal.  Why did you post?  Does its not being a big deal matter to you?  :drunk:

If a post is ignored in a forum, and nobody noticed it, was it truly ignored?

I should have ignored this thread, but it is an eye-opening window on the rest of the forum that I never need to visit!

I agree with Br'er Fox that the more important problems should be fixed first.

I prefer the option to be able to open them should I want to. I rarely do though, but with anything, its nice to have the option and we already have that :)

Either it's a switch that is there in the software, built in, to be set in 2 seconds one way or the other, or it won't be changed.  Nobody is saying anything else.  The idea that it's anything bigger is just you.

Yes you should, if you weren't going to read before posting. Nobody else is saying this should be done before anything.

I don't know why it's so hard to have a brief, civil discussion about something minor, let people express a preference or not, and let the admins decide to change a setting, if they can, or not.

A whole thread on ignoring posters when most other suggestions/questions of greater significance are in the "New AUTOSPORT forums" thread makes the point well.

That's hardly fair, there has been in my opinion a surprising and disappointing amount of rudeness from post 2 onwards to what I would consider a rather benign topic, and opening post.

Not really, I can maybe understand why you prefer not to read a member's posts -although one can easily scroll by- but to be bothered when even the existence of an ignored is brought to your attention is just well plain .... weird.

So voted just show the posts

I thought my post was civil. Just goes to show how sensitive some people are.

Schrödinger's post?

Negative...more a Gary Larson philosophical note...however...

In the 1910 book Physics by Mann and Twiss. The question "When a tree falls in a lonely forest, and no animal is near by to hear it, does it make a sound? Why?" is posed along with many other questions to quiz readers on the contents of the chapter, and as such, is posed from a purely physical point of view.

Are you certain it's just a switch? Every other issue seems to require recoding, testing, checking against different browsers, operating systems, monitor resolutions, aspect ratios etc
But since you seem to know maybe it is?

And I'm going to call you out on your complaint about civility, when I posted on topic (and civil) and you come back with the crazy smiley.

I have never used the 'ignore' feature.  Quite honestly I don't see the point of it.  If you feel someone always talks twaddle it's simple to scroll past their posts.  If you hide the posts surely it makes the logic of a thread hard to follow as you may not know what people are referring to.

But I am writing this as someone who rarely visits forums other than the Nostalgia Forum.
