Let's hope that Mercedes have the pace to reject Red Bull the front row here, sadly, I don't have much faith in any other team.

Looking forward to Mercedes being a genuine threat for the front-row and convincingly race for the podium.
Perhaps Lotus too, can challenge Red Bull. Ferrari will probably fall back to somewhere between their recent form on fast tracks, and where they were before the summer break.

looking forward to seeing how stupid or how surprisingly not bad the new T10 is.

yeah, but if u think about it, removing the 'sling' means significantly less chance of an accident and crucially a Safety car. all those Red fans that are wishing for some unpredictability will be disappointed at that. although, kimi will be happy.
not to mention photographers getting some good airborne shots

Croft just said the track is a 'very abrasive surface not normally suited to the supersoft'
I was under the impression it was very smooth?

It's a spec series, they can only change setups as far as i know. The current car has been used since 2011.

Red Bull and Mercedes leads the pack so far with Raikkonen in the mix.

Interesting that Webber is quicker than Vettel at the moment, though Seb has the edge in S3

He wasn't doing too great in 2008, until they fixed the race.

Webber is basically always 0.5s down on Vettel round Singapore
Not sure why it's the other way round so far, maybe Vettel is running a reduced setting of something.

No, he was indeed looking great in 2008 until his fuel pump failed in Q2.

Yeah but wasn't he fastest that weekend until his car broke down in qualifying?

Yeah, but not too much of his fault.
His car failed in qualifying and it was really hard to overtake on this circuit without DRS and quickly degrading tyres.
In FPSs he looked like a strong contender for podium.

Doesn't bode well for my guess the pole prediction time but we will see.

Just like last year - does anyone remember that? - Hamilton purples every sector at every lap he's going for.

In the end yes, but not during the session.

its only Practice session but it does look like the Lotus is ahead of the Ferrari on this track (early days though)

At the very least Merc will keep RB honest though

I know it's early but I'll take the first bite:
Massa surely attacks as hell.
In all honesty I'd like for him to do well, I just don't see it happening.

What made you think Vettel was not even trying?
Mercedes do not usually show their speed on friday and the fact that they are already fastest (albeit in free practice) should be a concern to all the other teams. It could be Monaco all over again where they locked out the front row.
#44
Posted 20 September 2013 - 12:09
So far the gaps at the front are just huge: 2.2 seconds to P8. Has that ever happened in a dry session?

Just the fact he showed no signs of being quicker than Webber (round one of Webber's worst circuits)
Also Vettel wasn't great in FP1 Monza before then dominating the weekend

This track is always one of the worst for that kind of thing. It's a pretty normal occurrence.

It doesn't happen too often these days but there are definitely examples in the past e.g. in Britain qualifying 1992 Mansell was 2.7 seconds quicker than Senna in third and 4.7 seconds quicker than Alesi in 8th. He did love driving at Silverstone.

Mercedes is always fast in P1, they were near the front in more or less all free practices lately that were dry (except Hungary, where they did their first runs on the new tires). Also in Monza btw

Well yeah, perhaps I shouldn't have said ever but more recently I can't really remember this.
1992 is quite awhile back.

If Hamilton says after practice today that they'll be "competitive" or "fast" then he'll pole.
