I think  Alonso is going to see his Ferrari contract through to 2016 and then make the decision, depending on Mclaren's and Ferrari's performance...either way that contract is most likely going to be his very last one. Ofcourse if indeed **** really hits the fan at Mercedes and Hamilton leaves the team, then there could be one spot open there as well. With Mclaren however one big question is, can Alonso put the past behind with Ron Dennis...for sure Ron has said that he has no problem taking Alonso back, but Im not sure how Alonso feels about it.

If the **** hits the fan Merc would be looking for a low key driver and not Alonso. They can win the WDC with Nico.  Personally the earliest Alonso would leave Ferrari is 2016. I think he would wait to see what McLaren can offer.

You are laughing about Alonso demanding number 1 status? - I dont think ALonso is confident enough to join a team without the security of knowing he is number 1 driver. He needs the reassurance and safety. He wont take Button on in McLaren.

So you've read Alonso's contract, have you now? What does the signing of Raikkonen say then...

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

not sure if serious

:stoned: ....yeah he's treated better than Alonso.

If only poor old Fernando had parts just dedicated for him  :well:  Seems like the whole world is against him, poor Nando.

I don't think it was Alonso's choice to have Kimi alongside him (whatever BS may have been spouted for PR reasons). Would he have signed for the team on the understanding that he would become joint number one driver? It was forced on him, but so far he's dealing with it very well - perhaps helped by strategies which have got him in front of Kimi on occasion.

At Ferrari he's benefitted from reliable cars, good strategy and good pitstops. Unless McLaren get their act together, they won't be giving him that. Plenty of room for paranoia to creep in if it's Alonso who is unlucky. Even clear number one status wouldn't help when the team keep messing up, putting him behind his team-mate.

Alonso isn't stupid. He won't sign for McLaren unless every aspect.of the operation is looking better than at present.

Yeah, but you could have said that about Lewis going to Merc.

Errrm bs! Alonsos team never tried to go to RB he just complemented the car and got a tweek. His PR team spread bs rumours about all the teams interested in him  Yeah they even said Merc a few wees ago :rotfl:  The only 2 drivers  who contacted RB were  Lewis. 2012 and Kimi's people 2013

Yeah, but you could have said that about Lewis going to Merc.

No comparison.

Lewis feft McLaren IMO because of unreliability and poor race operations. Alonso won't be headed that way unless those become clearly things of the past.

You talking about a few miserly parts for Kimi? Alonso has the whole darn car custom built for him in mind. No other driver in F1 save Vettel can make such a claim.

Yeah, but Mclaren looked a much better bet than Merc at the time who's operations were just as bad at the time.

I think if McLaren can convince him they have a plan and he sees none at Maranello, I think he would take the gamble.

Merc went through a bad patch in 2012, but McLaren went through some bad years 2011 - 2013 (and let's see about 2014).

Plus when Ross sat Lewis down and said "It's going to be 2009 all over again but with more money this time" he had some credibility.

The question is when? Don't both McLaren drivers have contracts for 2015?

Where are all your claims from? Did you speak to the Ferrari engineers?

No team would design a car towards a 'driver'. They would design the car the best they could, and the rest would be left to the drivers to maximise the package.

If so then Ferraris engineers must be some of the dumbest if they design the car towards Alonso, assuming the car is slower but since its tailored to his needs.... it's okay right...  :rotfl:

they tried but RB refused..actually Alonso's side was quite about it...just because you don't believe something doesn't make it false...

If Alonso partners Button at McLaren, Button is going to get crushed!!! Alonso is also very adept at the political game, Jenson's supposed hallmark. So what other advantages does Button have over Alonso because I don't see any...

Contracts are made to be broken.   ;)

Being honest, I have no idea what Alonso is planning to do in the near future but since he left Renault eight years ago, he has been having a hell of a time wherever he has been so please, let me not be too optimistic about him staying at Ferrari or moving to another team.  :well:

I was looking for some pictures to post in the caption thread, and i saw a headline (well, on dailymail) apparently from McLaren suggesting that Honda are not about to buy stake in a British team. Great, may be they will buy in RBR and it could RBH :p

Going to be honest here but I feel Button is slightly overrated despite winning the WDC. And I still think Lewis was the unlucky driver during their time together otherwise the scorecard would be much more favourable towards Lewis, but of course that's my opinion :)

The problem is that stats don't lie , Lewis was beaten by Button and by a large margin . I agree with you that Lewis wasn't that lucky but as Vettel says : " tough luck " , we can say that the same happened with Lewis and Fernando , Lewis was the luckiest one of the two and even when Lewis got problems they were pretty much self inflicted and even like that Alonso matched him in points at the end

If the car fits within Buttons operating window ie. tyres and downforce working together to suit his style then he wont get crushed, if not then we know Alonso is more adept at driving anything with four wheels as fast as it can go.

Saying that I cant think of too many weakness of Alonso, but all working well (like if they were at Merc today) then it wouldnt be a crushing, top drivers + top car

Yes, of course, if Alonso would also have lost about 100 points more than Button due to not his own mistakes (like Hamilton compared to Button in 2012), then it would seem that Button is as good as Alonso which under all aspects considered is not the truth. All in all (i.e. all seasons as teammates and all issues considered which were not the faults of the driver), Alonso as well as Hamilton are generally on another level than Button.

Except thats a "fairy story" 100 pts.

In reality Button also did not have a good year (2012) in that respect, he had seven races marred by technical issues. Eight if you call being bashed out by Kobayashi as "technical" - and thats before you start talking about strategy, safety cars and pit-stops. (ie "not due to his own mistakes")

If Alonso is so brilliant why couldn't he beat Button in the wet in Brazil in 2012 to secure the WDC. Come to think of it wasn't it Button who messed up his 2010 by getting by him at the start at Abu Dhabi?.. and wasn't that the same race where Alonso's showed his famed overtaking prowess by not being able to overtake Petrov? (Apparantley the "Alonso is faster than you" attempts didn't work).

I am sure Honda is eyeing Alonso, because that would make sense.

Given all what has been, I am not so sure McLaren/Ron Dennis seriously considers Alonso even if he esteems his driving skills very highly.

I have serious doubts about Alonso eyeing McLaren.

Alonso would simply destroy Button, the missing balance man.
However, I do not want to see Alonso going back to Mclaren. That team is rotten.
What Alonso should try to do is jump to RB or Mercedes.

Thing is Button has never been destroyed or crushed by any of the drivers he's been partnered with.

Yeah, if partnered with Alonso, Button would make Kovalainen look good. Now where have we heard this before?
