Could be Paul because the I think the 750 went to N. Ireland at the end of 82. Just checking there was a Union flag on in 82 as well but not Tsubaki stickers

All a bit strange then!

I know I've seen a pic of the 750 with the extra shock, from a Scarborough meeting.

Quite when I saw it appears to be a matter for debate!

If Paul saw it in 1982 when he raced at Scarborough, I guess that nails it?

That appears to be the most reliable and auditable dating so far, yes!

Did you ever ride a standard Yam ? I thought my 250E was the best handling bike on the planet, I'm curious how it compared to the Maxton chassis.
Greg
P.S. I have a Maxton shock on my Honda Blackbird, I'm impressed with it's performance and it's beautifully made, just like the racing frames.

Hi Greg,

Yes I have ridden the standard framed TZ350 'D' around the same time as I ran the Maxton framed 350 , although I only ever rode Maxton Yamaha's in the IOM . The Maxton was more stable due to the wheelbase being 2" longer than the Yamaha frame, so was ideal for the Island , the trade off being slower to chage direction through chicane type corners. My Maxton was the original CantileverFrame built fot Charlie Williams for the 1975 TT which he won .The bike was then used by Geoff Tunstall at the MGP for a few years , and then I rode the bike in the MGP from 1981 to 1985 , I dread to think how many miles that frame covered around the Island !
I have just sold a standard framed TZ350 'D' which I used at Oliver's Mount and The Bikers Classic at Spa this year , a great bike but after riding my Reverse Cylinder TZ 's they do feel very dated , and much harder to ride !
John.

Superb!

Thank you, I've posted some of these before but lost track of which ones, most are scanned from the prints which are rather old now and a bit tatty.

They were taken using a Pentax MX and either of two lenses, a Hanimex 200 ( a real cheapy ) and a Takumar 135 which is a quality bit of kit.

I've still got all my old gear including the Kodak Instamatic and attend most of the Olivers Mount meetings and still take lots of shots but now I use a Canon Eos 40D and a Canon 250mm zoom.

Thanks again,

Greg

I'm planning on entering the RG in the Olivers Mounts Hillclimbs and Twisty sprint in 2014. I imagine I'll have to hone some clutch slipping skills for mere hairpin but very much looking forward to the noise up 'Sheene rise'  :)

This image of me in 2010 (from Cet's great www.photocet.net site) is my reminder to take care leaving the new chicane on cold tyres

I think I've posted this one a couple of years ago but if I haven't it's Mountside hairpin, Stuart Cole leading, Mick Grant pushing past Andy Watts and Paul Tinker keeping out of the way ...'80 or '81.

I went to many meetings at the mount from 78 on, but my abiding memory is Jim Redman taking the Honda six round on demos, the racket going up the hill from the Mere hairpin was awesome.
Did Hailwood or anyone take the six round there because one or two of those racing round must have been something to hear.

Funny you should say that John as thats exactly who I thought of too when I saw the photo!, the leathers and helmet are right its just the test of the colour scheme, pretty sure its him.

A guy called John Cronshaw rode the MVs from time to time but that does look like Dave roper to me, and that 350-4 sounds a proper beast, my favourite MV .

The first time I heard the MVs was the 79 British GP at Silverstone when Hailwood and Ago did their demo, I was sat in the grandstand dead in line and the warming up noise reverberating around the stands was terrific.
But anyway, back to those Scarborough meetings and I'm sure Grant, Read and Bonera were on the MVs as well.

A few years ago at Oliver's Mount whilst I was helping David Bedlingtom with his Seeley G50 he was offered the chance to have a ride on the ex Agostini' 500/3 . The bike is proberbly the same one that was ridden at a earlier meeting by Dave Roper , Rob Ianucci the owner of the bike just handed the bike over to us , told me to change the plugs , fuel it up and start it ! After I warmed the bike up I rode out of the paddock and on to the Start Line , Dave got to ride the bike around the track for a few laps , but just having the chance to start the bike and then ride it the short distance was something very special, Dave Bedlington latter bought the ex Phil Read MV 500 /4 he still owns today.

Can anyone identify a rider who isn't named in one of the photos above. In the Steve Tonkin at Mountside pic who is the guy in the blue and white leathers nearest the camera?

And thanks to all who replied with photos and memories.
