Rubens Barrichello is reportedly close to agreeing a sensational comeback for cash-strapped Sauber at this year's Brazilian Grand Prix. #F1

Would be fun, anyone heard anything more?

Yawn. Woobins was immensely fast on his day, but that's a long time ago. Bringing him back is just a waste of a seat that could be taken by one of the promising future stars.

What happened to Sauber's Russian monies?  Or was that money as real as the money Genni were getting from Brunei.....

Bernie will be supporting this as the need a driver from Brazil on the grid.  If Massa cannot find a drive, then Rubens will act as a safenet, and also provide Sauber with a pot of gold they dearly need.

The reasons are clear, but I still do not really want it to happen.

I'd rather see Massa there. Rubens' time is over.

Replacing Hulkenberg at his specialist circuit doesn't seem astute.

He would be rusty as hell unless he has a lot of practise in between.

Not sure about Rubens but it wouldn't surprise me about the Bernie/Brazilian thing. Eddie Jordan said the same thing during his silly season feature on the BBC. And we know Bernie and Eddie talk about driver contracts.

If they're doing it for cash, then it's just going to be some sub-par rich kid anyway

I can see why Sauber may want him for next year considering all the time he has in an F1 seat.  I also agree why take Hulkenberg out on possibly his best track when RB will be rusty as hell.  Of course, we are assuming it is Hulkenberg.  Next year is not a good year to have a brand new driver in my estimation.  With Sirotkin(?) driving Hulkenberg should be his teammate.  IF Hulkenberg is leaving Sauber for real than Rubens would be a good candidate.  As good as Massa, I don't know, since I don't know which one is better at giving feedback.

Kick out the guy who just scored you a 3rd place start in favor of an old guy who struggles against a sub F1-quality grid in Indycar? Did Monisha get the job because of a Swiss work for the mentally challenged program?

Why not bring Sato back if you're scouring American open wheelers?

Heck, don't even mention Sauber, why would Rubens want to drive a midfield car with no testing or training? Drive around at a Caterham pace and be nowhere near his teammate? I'm sure he is familiar with Badoer and Fisichella enough to avoid jumping on a car just like that. I frankly doubt there is any weight to this rumour.

Please stop whoring yourselves out, Sauber. Rubens would probably do worse than Gutierrez.

ITT: People who think they really know what's going on at Sauber.

ITT: People who are pretending they wouldn't leap at any chance to race F1, even if they're old and bald.

For once on this forum, let's pretend we actually know how to put ourselves in someone else's shoes. It really isn't that hard, because this is kindergarten-level ****.

"Hey, Rubens: you wanna drive in F1 again for a decent team?"

The right answer:

"Heck yeah! Sign me up baby!"

The wrong answer:

"Well, gee, that really is my heart's desire and F1 is my one true love of anything on this planet and I only get to live once. But those keyboard warriors on Autosport said I'm old and past it, so no thanks. I'll stick with Stock Car Brazil so I don't get in the way of amazing young talent".

Because he isn't paying for his seat. If you're desperate enough for money that you'll bring in a semi-retired driver who's been out of F1 for two years, you're not going to throw out the other pay-driver. Unless there's problems with Gutierrez's peso's of course.

Much as I like Rubens, I wouldn't want to see him back for a one-off race. He's just not going to be competitive.

what happened to the Russian deal?

why would Rubens be in line for 2014 at Sauber when Massa could probably get more sponsorship.

From all i've heard, Gutierrez isn't paying either. Not anymore, at least.

I don't expect that to happen, anyway. Twobens could probably still do a decent job next season, but i don't see the point in putting him into the car for the final 2013 race.

One of the best ways to check if you're on the right side of an issue in current F1 news is to make sure DC is on the other side of the wire. He's a nice dude but he seems off base a lot of the time.

One off race is a terrible idea, especially if he replaces Hulkenberg who is both good at that track and good in mixed conditions which are likely in Brazil.

He would be better off starting fresh with winter testing next season.  The whole thing sounds pretty crazy though.  He would have to bring a lot of sponsorship money!  I'm guessing he can still handily beat Sirotkin, but aren't there better options?  I wonder how desperate Sauber still is for money.

Has he actually not paid for the remainder of the season? You would expect him to be replaced by another pay driver, given his less than stellar performances this season.

If he comes back only for one race, that's fine. Even though he will probably be off-pace. But at least he can give a proper farewell goodbye, which he didn't do in 2011, being motivated (or stubborn, depending on your POV) in extending his career.

It'd be great to see Rubens 'The team made me lose the race' Barrichello back in F1.

Anyway, given Barrichello's shocking run of misfortune at the Interlagos circuit, I'm not sure any team - superstitious or not - would look forward to putting him in one of their cars there.

doesn't make much sense, because just jumping in the car, with no testing sounds like a bad idea BUT, Sauber have nothing to loose, if it attract some money great, I doubt finishing in 22 or 12 is going to make much of a difference for them.

in that case, they should also give Susie Wolff a chance. Would give Williams MASSIVE attention and undoubtedly some good funds as well.

This is where a man (Rubens), has to recognize to stop being greedy, and blend his career as youth driver manager perhaps for other competitions, or work his way as a team manager if he's still this passionate about the sport.

Otherwise, with all due respect to him, he's really stealling time/oppertunity from some seeking for a chance to preform as he once did.

While I like this idea, there are better woman drivers to should also be given a chance. One is that young Dutch girl for one of a Redbull's junior teams.
