What about someone's wife dressing up as Edwina Overend?

....complete with the clatter of jewellery and a fog of face powder!!

Those were the days

I remember being at Brands when the Walker Brothers appeared, one silly girl climbed over the fence opposite the pits during a race, I sprinted across the track (I could in those days!), and chucked her back over the fence. Pop stars and motor-racing don't mix. Now, Chris Barber on the pit straight after a Grand Prix...

..or Status Quo, though that the 'elderly' people can hear -at least- something :rotfl:

I am a (forgotten/unknown) Grand Daughter of Chris Meek, looking to find out more about his racing life and life in general...I can not seem to get much information from his family/friends and so have decided that asking motorsport fenatics (such as himself) is the best way to start as it seems that lots of people know him well or certainly did at the 'pinacle' of his career in racing...I hope! Can anybody offer me pictures, info...anything that may help me try and piece together some form of story....Please and Thank You x

Just to note that Mallory Park re-opened for four-wheel racing on Sunday. Excellent racing, a good crowd, ever-improving weather, what more could you want. Here are a small selection of photos from the day.

Mark Ticehurst won all three Special Saloon and Modsport races in his flame-spitting Porsche

It was a toss up for the best race of the day but the second large capacity sports and saloons just about shaded it. Tony Lees' Morgan Plus 8 and Will Sharpe's Porsche Boxster seemed to spend most of their lead battle side-by-side.

Cars of various vintages were racing. Given the nature of this forum, here's John Hilbery's very nicely presented Lenham Midget / Sprite

Another old 'un being driven enthusiastically was Josh Sadler's Porsche 911, here shared with Mark Henderson.

Finally, a well-known scribe of this parish was spotted, proving that there's still a need for pens and note pads.

All in all an excellent day out - here's to next season.

I went along on to Mallory on Sunday the venue ,the weather ,the cars all made for an excellent day to watch some great racing.I would have to agree that the best race if the day was the Morgan V8 versus Porsche Boxster. You can enjoy most of the race from the chasing Porsche 944 until it retired.

Welcome to this forum, Tony!

Did you beat the Boxster to the flag?

It was a score draw in the end 1-1. Tremendous entertainment.

My photo of the Morgan has gone a bit 'funny' when uploading it to Photobucket - I'll try and correct this. Edit - Success!!

Here's another Special Saloon from days gone by - the Suzuki SC100 driven by David Brewis. Is this the ex-Alan Humberstone car?

I also like the Escort in the background, showing a different approach to getting round Shaw's.......

I did in race 2! Very pleased to have a win at my local track. The Mallory Revival just shows that the track should be on everyone's calendar. What a fantastic race it was; Will Sharpe is a strong adversary.

Thanks very much to la sarthe for sending me the photos.

With the re-opening of Mallory how about some photos of the original opening in 1956?
There are some great images of Bob Gerard in his Cooper at the opening here...

How about renaming the thread now that Mallory Park is in caring hands?

Mallory.....brings back plenty of memories for me :drunk:

I was a student in Nottingham '73 - '76  and used to go to Mallory, among other circuits, to marshal. Didn't have a car so hitch-hiked or train to Leicester, bus to Earl Shilton then walked / hitched to the circuit. Leaving the circuit was no problem with armbands on, remember getting a ride out with John Hine, he'd raced his Dolomite in the BTCC race that day. He used to race 2 litre Chevrons etc.

I too marshalled that Radio 1 Race Day with Bay City Rollers....was on Devil's Elbow [?], the downhill left hander leading onto start/finish straight....we were told to use the fire extinguishers if necessary to keep the crowds back....a bit like police using water cannons, I suppose....

Remember being there for the early March "Internationals"....I didn't see any F2 races, but they'd been replaced by John Player Formula Atlantic rounds. And they were usually wet...remember Tony Brise crashing / retiring, leaving Jim Crawford to win [or was it Stephen Choularton, Jim was in one of his cars anyway]. And the late season F5000 races, Ian Ashley setting a lap record, I think.

The March '76 "International" had David Purley dominating the feature race from Damian Magee....among the supporting cast was a young Ari Vatanen contesting the Shellsport Mexico race :drunk:

Also, I did a Jim Russell Racing Drivers Course there, returned after graduating in '76 to complete it. That course confirmed to me that whilst I was very happy driving round on my own, I didn't feel too comfortable being on a grid of similar machinery and I lacked the "aggression" to try and get to the 1st corner 1st. Hence why I went rallying instead.... :drunk:

I think that was probably the early March 1975 one won by Richard Morgan in the Donington Chevron B29. Jim was second and Steve Choularton third, and Tony Brise involved in an accident. Jim did win a couple of JP rounds later in the year

Yep, that was the one......I'd forgotten about Richard Morgan until I read your post. Thanks. I think Tony Brise won all the subsequent Atlantic rounds until the British GP one, which he wasn't allowed to do as he was in the GP itself... :drunk:

I'm sure that Brise did practice for the GP round, Philip, but couldn't start because he was injured in the accident at the end of the GP. Sorry to drift OT

Just wondered if anyone was intending to go to tomorrow's (Wednesday 13th August) general test day?    I am in Leicestershire during the day so am going to try and look in during the morning.
