Redbull always appear to make massive gains over the summer break. Do only the teams have to shutdown or does it apply to all suppliers such as Redbull Technologies.   Redbulls  *cough*" aerodynamic parts supplier"

This shutdown is unprofessional if you ask me. They have the entire month of December and part of January to take vacation. On top of that teams do not race every weekend and the season does not start until March .There are plenty of off-weeks during the year where employees can take some time off.

discover23: You have no idea how much the team personnel are forced to work, day and night, weekend and weekdays.. Forced breaks are much needed in F1.

Back to the main question: I think during the normal summer breaks, a week in the beginning and a week in the end are still working weeks and not part of the forced break. In Red Bull's case, I would be very surprised if their aerodynamic parts were being developed during the forced break. I don't think that would be allowed.

Fine, maybe they are needed but I think the gap between Hungary and Spa is too long.

Summer breaks have always been there. I don't think the gap between Hungary and Spa was necessarily longer than other years. But this year felt weird because the whole scheduling in the first half was very lousy. But the Hungary-Spa break was nothing extraordinary. It's normal.

Interesting question.  I would wager it does not apply to them to be honest. I hadn't really twigged if they do make a jump over the summer break though - what does the history say exactly?

Really wish they would:

- Set a cost cap and write a ton of rules around enforcing it rather than banning specific tech. Let the teams decide where to spend a finite amount.

- Say all staff have to be given 25 days off a year with no more than 15 of them in the same month.

the answer is simple, why does Red Bull make big leap forward while others not when the factories are shutdown...it´s Adrian Newey, his brains are constantly giving ideas and he gets them at home, so while others give some time for holiday, he does miracles ;)

The enforced summer shutdown only lasts two weeks, the rest of that time the staff will be at the factory.

The shut down is more than just giving the crews a well earned rest. It's also to save money.

Then he ought to be compulsorily sedated during the shutdown period.  It would only be fair!

FIA has implemented a new regulation for the 2014 season, which mandates the shutdown of work-related thinking of all technical personnel of F1 teams. This will be measured by denying any of the technical people to enter the factory with any papers, plans or documents they might have drawn up during their spare time. Also technical personnel are not allowed to undergo any practical design work during the first two weeks after the vacation to further drive down the will to plan during their vacation, which they can do during the first two post-vacation weeks.
