I would be astonished if Enstone has the funds to hire him!

ATM, yes, me too, but the infrastructure is there, so it IS only a question of funding, nothing else. Who knows, they may be well off by 2015. I think though Honda and Ferrari are after him. Honda may feel they have unfinished business, Brawn himself could have personal initiative to put some serious effort in there too.So yes, it is the most likely to me. Newey and Brawn are the two biggest names in F1, and one of them is on the market.

Personally, I'd love to see Brawn have a go at bringing a Le Mans team up by the bootstraps.  Either bringing in a new manufacturer and making it successful; or taking one of the non-manufacturer teams, working to get it funding, and then making a splash with it.  I think he has the ability, but whether he has both the desire and can find a team willing to play are other questions entirely.

Niki Lauda should not be taken as the voice of Mercedes although he thinks he is. A lot of what he says is not representative of the wishes of Mercedes.

I still think that we should not be damming Mercedes long term future until Lowe and Wolff show us what they got. And if anyone mentions the MP4-28 then they should conmsider that Lowe probably had the Merc move in mind for a while. And he might not have had so much, so to say, 'input' on the Mclaren which is why it was slow.

Lowe is a competent designer and he has an incredible design team to work with. I reckon the 4 of them plus Wolff has what it takes to challenge Adrian Newey. Of course Brawn had the calibre to do that on his own. But despite his reputation I would still take those 4 brains over Brawns one.

It was Brawn who hired them, and it was Brawn who coordinated them. Lowe did not go there to design. He went to Merc to Lead. It will come down to ability, respect and authority. You don't just get that automatically with your paycheck. I am not writing off anything, and yes, they may prove me wrong. I just feel this is a step or two backwards, or to put it in another way ,it surely hasn't strengthened Mercedes. As somebody said already, there is a certain inertia for 2014, let's see how this unfolds.

He is the Chairman of Mercedes-AMG F1, so what he says has to be taken seriously and as the wish of Mercedes.

That's why he is not very good in the role.

I think he's either tied to somewhere already, or under conversations. I don't think he'll be on the market for long, certainly not enough for long for Enstone to get their funding.

Assuming the gardening leave theory is correct.

It was suggested in this months Motorsport Magazine podcast (just to both distance myself from and properly attribute the idea) that Brawn might like to go work for the FIA and work out a new and proper set of technical rules for F1.

Brawn used to work for Todt didn't he?

It doesn't sound like a particularly full time role and that gives him plenty of time left over to indulge his hobby.

Personally, I can't think of anywhere which might benefit more from a man of his standing and expertise.

I doubt the teams will agree to give one guy full control of the technical regulations

This type of work is never done by one person.

The suggestion is that he would lead the project, obviously involving all stakeholders.

Exactly - what F1 rule ship needs is a firm hand on the tiller and an eye on the horizon.  The rum rations need strict rationing and potential mutineers should be lashed to the mast and flogged.

Didn't help Max Mosley's FIA career much.

I believe its the "Comfy Chair"  these days.

How is it you know what is and isn't representitive of what Mercedes wants?

Seems Wolff is already starting to play down championship expectations:

"It's not going to be a while. We are just putting things together now and it's a matter of us ramping up performance. I see us being a title contender in the next couple of years. When? I cannot tell you; it's reading a crystal ball. We just need to put the bits and pieces together.

It's normal to play expectations down at this point. No one has driven 2014 cars yet.

I thought ride-buying was bad enough, but managing-director buying?

He's Executive Director Business. Let's see how he does on the sponsorship side.

The last major sponsor they signed was Blackberry. And that was the work of Nick Fry as Brawn pointed out a while ago.

I doubt Blackberry will continue next year, so they will need a decent replacement.

I think it is becoming pretty clear that Brawn is part of the Honda package for McLaren.
