The track that all of big teams dread (sans Junior) and where all the small teams/S&Ps put all their chips on the table in hopes of putting that usually nearly impossible W on the books. I'm hearing J.J. Yeley and Mason Mingus as the early favorites.

Don't get that bummed, I've been F'ed here in the wilds of the desert because Direct Sat is in a beef w/ ABC.
I need a geek to walk me through a MiFi to plug a screen in here.
Arrrgghhh
Don't want to miss this, I think some guys are due for a zero finish day and will shake things up.
Talladega is 50% luck.

Cup quali has been rained out. Which means Hornish won't race, and Almirola starts from the pole.

Hopefully that's it for the rain. Start time is 4:22pmET for the trucks. Should be ok.

Jeb Burton on pole for the Truck race.

His sixth NCWTS pole of the year. Pretty damn good, rookie.

Interesting but useless factoid:

Jeb Burton has more NCWTS career poles in his rookie year than teammate James Buescher has in 5 seasons, and just one less than current points leader and 13-year NCWTS veteran Matt Crafton.

Now, who's watching?

An oval race with a lap count in double figures. Excellent.

I agree. NASCAR driver names tend to be either deep south or urban hipster. A guy who is half way between "Jeb" and "Parker" is my choice.

One of these days Brennan Newberry is going to win a race, and everybody will stop calling him Brendan.

I never know if name ****-ups are something I should be pissed at or not. I don't know how hard or easy it is to commentate on a race, and some people just get tongue-tied. But there's a part of me thinking "I'm calling temp agencies ten times a week and you can't be bothered to learn a driver's name?". Although it's not exactly breaking news that being unemployed turns you into the kind of douchebag you'd kill if you had to share an apartment with.

Anyone got an over/under (or taking drinks) for how many times the phrase "wild card in the chase" will be/has been used this weekend?

A bit of pressure on Kenseth to keep it close since Martinsville is almost essentially conceding full points to Johnson.

Also, I think Michael Waltrip is the worst commentator in all of sports. He can't complete a simple sentence.

We should add "Go where they ain't" to the list of things we need to drink to. Waltrip says it constantly.

Classic tandem racing finish.  Was it just two trucks that crossed the finish line pointing straight?
