Does anyone own or know the whereabouts of any other Harris/Roc YZR500s? Just done a piece on this one, and it got my brain wondering where the rest are?

I have some pics of the bikes at the harris factory as I was seans race engineer in 92 and 94, if anyone is interested and can tell me how to post them on here.
I still have a set of gearing charts and an engine parts list with yamaha part numbers.
I think clive padgett still has his bike and also still has some engine parts
forum member 2strokesonly has a roc 500 in lopez mella repsol colours but one of his friends has a harris I think.
terry maybe you can confirm that?

Further to my previous post
Peter Graves had frame number 001 if I remember correctly..not sure if he still has it
others were run by Kees Doorakers Nigi Schmassmun (not sure if they are the correct spelling) Michael Rudroff all ran them at some point
in 94 a bike was run by a german team the rider was called neukirshner
Alf Mossell was pretty friendly with those guys and I think he is a forum member, he still works at harris as far as I know he may have more info

seat hump was different from the 92 buckmaster picture.
it changed again in 94 as the whole seat subframe changed from alloy to carbon fibre

The double photo from eastern creek 1994 has 19 bike of Sean Emmett
the 52 bike was ridden by wild card Scott Doohan....Micks brother
Unfortunately I don't have any results...I seem to remember Sean finished about 12th I think

Great stuff all this
To think it was all made not far from me in Stevenage!
I seem to remember Sean using one of those huge Mockett fairings?
And also didn't they copy their later body work from scrap Cagiva bits they found in a bin!

Certainly the Emmett & Scott Doohan bikes have the same style front fairing as the Cagiva.
Posted 29 October 2013 - 13:38
behind the opening in the fairing nose in the 94 pics was an airbox that ran down either side of the fairing and the enclosed the carbs, effectively force feeding them.
Unfortunately I didn't take any photos.
Usually because I had no film in my camera...lol
remember this was before mobile phones and digital cameras
the original bike and carbon fibre were a fairly close copy of an ex Rainey bike from 90 or 91 I think...can't remember exactly if I'm honest
But probably 90 as we had the bike in the workshop in Hertford late summer 91, pretty much all of the frame and bodywork were made in house
Suspension was Ohlins and brakes were AP Lockheed as Harris were agents for them.
Wheels were Marchesini or Dymag
The curved radiators were made by Alan Docking Racing at Silverstone they used to make the rads for F1 cars amongst others
The original alloy fuel tanks were made by a guy based near Gravesend I think...Forgotten his name now
The exhausts made by by Pete Gibson who used to be out near Brentwood and in 94 were designed by Dudley Crammond
In 94 the tanks and seat subframes were carbon fibre made in house by a guy called Steve Collins who I think operates somewhere near High Wycombe these days
In 94 the rear of the chassis and top shock mount were changed... you can see in the early photos on the bench to the bare frame/swing arm photo
Also in 94 Sean was using a thumb operated rear brake
there's bound to be more, if i think about it between bouts of alzheimers I will post it on here.
Unfortunately I had loads of stuff from a variety of years and bikes stored at my mothers. My very thoughtful cousin threw it out when he was clearing the garage thinking it was rubbish.
I haven't spoken to him since...lol

I do recall when Yamaha let teamsuse the 500negine the Harris was similar to a Rainey bike.
I also recall them using a ROC chassis when the Yam one didn't work in 93!
I definitely recall Sean using a Mockett fairing, big dustbin thing!
I also remember part of your deal was using Shell unleaded when no one was, and even Yokohama tyres? When no one else was doing either.
Posted 29 October 2013 - 17:40
john pearson
thats the guy
thanks for that
You are correct on the shell unleaded I'd forgoten that, I think the yokohama and roc thing was after my time.
I finished there at the end of 94, although I remain friendly with the harris brothers and steve bayford.
I still live pretty close to the 2 Steves and the factory and poke my face in there now and again
Posted 30 October 2013 - 15:09
also had forgoten the 94 engines were big bang
I must be getting old

He certainly did use a Mockett fairing and seat, I worked on it with Mockett. In spite of the fact that it gave them several KPH they stopped using it as it was a bit tricky to assemble apparently.
Posted 30 October 2013 - 16:55
must have been 93 or 95 onwards
i wasn't there when the mocket fairing was used
