I reckon it would have been 93 mate to be honest, he did a lot of work with aero and Roberts team with weird fairings and the like.

Was a great time back then, for guys like Harris and ROC to get basically a factory works engine.

Fair play to Kenny and Yamaha, they prett6y much saved GP racing from the doldrums! Folk still using RG500 and NS500 triples!

ok a gobbledygook explanation

the first chart gives the available gear ratios for each gear

the wheel and pinion number in the vertical columns are the number of teeth on the drive and driven gears

simplified by calling each selection for each gear by letters a to b which then transfers to the speed chart

on the speed chart

it is based on using a 4.15/7.15  17" dunlop rear tyre at 12000 rpm

along the top row are the 2  possible primary gear ratios between crankshaft and gearbox   46/20 or  41/18

next row down are the final gearing of gearbox sprocket and rear wheel sprocket

gears 1st to 6th are vertical down the left hand side

the letters  are the identifiers for the available ratios for each gear

by following across and vertical the speed in kph is then shown where the 2 cross for each gear ratio

by using these charts it simplifies the selection of gearbox ratios and overall gearing for each circuit/session

with the combination of 2 different primary gears and up to 6 individual ratios for each gear plus gearbox and rear wheel sprocket the possibilities are huge

a complete gearbox removal rebuild and installation took about 20 mins and could be done with the engine in the frame

i hope that simplifies things for the non technical amongst us

hope my memory got all that right from 20 years ago....lol

Fantastic topic, thanks guys.

I recall seeing the Kevin Mitchell bike posted by Graham on page one in the B&M showroom in Preston in about '96 at an asking price of 82k.

apart from the best view of me in a photo

the nearest bike in the top photo if you look carefully has a v shaped radiator underneath to fit in the belly pan...trying to cool the thing down

I know of at least four ROC / Harris in Germany.

Rolf Becker and Jörg Schöllhorn are still racing their bikes sometimes.

Collector Günther Knuppertz still owns his ex Cees Doorakkers Harris, but prefers to ride his OW81 and OWD3

There is also this one: http://yzr500.de/ It is for sale.

Agreed, we have discussed this before painting up "standard" bikes as factory/works machines, don't like it, rather it was all white! still I suppose if you own one you can paint it any colour you like. :well:

it's when you see how close the rear pipes were to the rear shock reservoir you know why the suspension would sometimes get too hot...lol

was the 93 version in those  pics

ROCs and Harris's had Öhlins originally, this one got WP forks, maybe when it was rebuilt. A cheap WP version b.t.w. .

I think that pic just shows the resevoir of the shock, but yes that would still get the oil or gas really hot! Strange shot as in one ic the resevoir loks to be right up in the seat unit, and in that back one it is pointing down!

White power tried real hard as I recall, but Sean would have maybe been a lot closer were he running normal fuel and Dunlops or Michelins, theyw ere I believe running Yokohama tyres in 93 or was it 92?

the shocks were 2 different ones

and you are correct it was a bit of a struggle using shell unleaded

when i was full time on the team in 94 we were using dunlops but you may be correct in them using yokohamas at some point

oops

I spent some time at the Harris factory in Hertford yoday, for a catch up and a cuppa. It turns out that they have at least 1 frame with the pressings done and I think awaiting the machined parts. With the intentioned of making at least 1 new bike. good news for all I think
