It's Whiting that needs the rethink. He said the limits were not going to be enforced. I don't understand why he is allowed to pick and choose what rules he will enforce any particular weekend.

it's different driving off track and it's different overtaking off track I think

doesn't mean their yo-yoing on when track limits count and when they don't is any less ridiculous, but "gaining an advantage by going off track" has always been enforced when it comes to overtakes.

I hate it, but if Whiting says the limits won't be enforced then he has sanctioned a free for all. According to him it's slower because they go further and it's slippery, well I'd like to hear his explanation as to why they go wide and can still out accelerate and overtake someone.

So Magnussen is penalised for running wide at turn 12 while overtaking, but apparently the same is OK for Alonso?

Track limits are joke these days. I don't know who came up with this idea but it's just painful to watch. DRS, no track limits, coaching on radio. What's next?  Amazing how some people managed to ruin something that worked for decades.

Furthermore, Rosberg was almost completely outside of the outer pit exit line with all four wheels, and there was not even an investigation, just like back in Monaco where Hulkenberg crossed the inside line.

Seems another rule quickly forgotten  :drunk:

No that's consistent. It's the track side blend line that you're not allowed to cross when exiting the pits. Hulk crossed that one in Monaco, even though it was within the Ste Devote apex area. Rosberg was off track but on the other side of the pit lane. He didn't cross the blend line.

Was he? When they gave a replay I thought it was to show he left the track, but his right-hand wheels seemed comfortably on the line.

Yeah he was enough on track for the overtake to have been legit.

Are we talking about when he tried to overtake Wehrlein at the pit exit during VSC?

Austria quali the track started wet, they didn't go off, as soon as it dried up they were running off track. If there's a wall there, they won't go near it, if there isn't a wall, they'll go off track.

I stand by what I've always said, which is sod this "they don't gain an advantage" tosh, if they didn't gain an advantage they wouldn't do it, and therefore penalise them if they go all 4 wheels off the track. End of.
