Oct.29 (GMM) Another secret of Red Bull's dominance in the second half of the season is emerging.

Germany's Auto Motor und Sport said former Stewart and Jaguar designer Gary Anderson, now a technical pundit for the BBC, floated the theory about the RB9.

The car, which in Sebastian Vettel's hands has won the last six grands prix on the trot, caught Anderson's attention recently when images of a rear-facing thermal camera were broadcast.

The images show that the floor just underneath the drivers' feet, the so-called 'tea-tray', was running extremely hot at slow speeds.

Anderson believes Adrian Newey may have found a way to "lift the 'tea tray' away from the track as it gets hot", allowing a lower front ride height.

Auto Motor und Sport reported on Tuesday that Force India also believes the Anderson theory, and that such a solution would be illegal.

yes they took a heat gun, heated it to 300 degrees and saw it didn't flex. But I am sure some geniuses will inform us that the RB teatray is made of uranium and Red Bull has managed to make it go nuclear and flashheat itself to 1000 degrees, flex in the corners then cool down in the straights

Even if it's true, it's too late to do anything about it. But it's probably not true.

But it‘s not up to AMuS to say if it‘s illegal, is it? Once the other teams understand why the Red Bull is so dominant, it will matter little if it‘s found to be legal or illegal. If it‘s legal they‘ll just copy it. And Newey will have as long as it takes the others to copy him, to think of another way to get the jump on everyone else.

If it turns out the car has been illegal all year and they‘ve not been caught, well, it‘s too late now. The deadlines to protest the races that have been held so far has passed. Red Bull passed scrutineering and nobody protested them, so you can‘t take away from what they‘ve acheived this year.

what a BS article. has a lot of ifs, and misses the sole fact - which makes the whole article pointless -  that the FIA already checked it with a 300 °C burner, and found it rigid -> legal.

So the thread (i don't know about the article since it's so hard to post a link) misses the most important info : it was tested and it didn't bend. Nice thread, 10 points for the try.

For carbon fibre 300° is not much at all. Shape Memory Metal would perhaps alter the shape of something when a critical temperature was reached, say 301°C...

Ah yes, RedBull – always bending something...

If it passed scrutineering, everything is legal.

A bit like Lance Armstrong who passed all his tests and we know how honourable a man he is, a true paragon of virtue.

so I guess that logic applies to every team: all of them are cheaters, because they passed the tests, just like Armstrong, who cheated. right? :smoking:

Guess every declared innocent man/woman whoever faced trial in a court of law is still guilty in your book then?

It's never too late. The FIA could disqualify Red Bull from the whole season if they had the reason to. There doesn't appear to be much substance to the idea Red Bull are running an illegal car however.

A technicality, but while they may be declared innocent in the eyes of the law, it doesn't mean they actually are innocent. Same with racing cars. The scrutineers may not find anything illegal, but it doesn't mean the car isn't breaking any rules.

In all forms of motor sport there are always the poor losers who claim that anyone who beats them must be cheating....I wonder if that's because they know that they are cheating and therefore anyone who beats them must be cheating more....

Completely the opposite which is the point I'm making.  I believe the RBR car breaches the flexible aero regs 'if' the rumours surrounding the floor are true.  The suggested design was purposely developed to circumvent the regulations, the only problem is they're not getting caught.  Again this is if they are doing what has been speculated or something similar.

My point is, just because a team's car passes scrutineering doesn't necessary mean that nothing outside of the regulations was done to it.  It is possible to cheat and be successful at doing it.  That doesn't mean RBR are cheating.  Currently there is no solid evidence against them just speculation.

Maybe the sound of the Tea-Tray scratching the ground was what Minardo hear coming from the RedBull in Singapore

The dopler effect might have confused him  :drunk:

I'll tell what this is....

is just a way of keeping "the masses" interested in formula 1.  :o

I'm pretty sure they will be clear from this one as they had in recent years.

Not quite tho' - despite their record so far some person only considers them about place 8, according to the front page.

Ah, jealousy   :smoking:

Much easier for a designer to say they are doing something which we aren't allowed then to say they are doing a better job.

He was a scegoat.
IMO, the difference between doping and sports medicine is what the guys who do not compete decide in board rooms.

Cool, RBR gained a benefit from some small aero trick that has nothing to do with current automotive engineering. Whoever can run their bum closest to the ground like a dog with piles wins the championship, awesome!

I can only hope that 2014 brings about some technology innovations that are actually interesting!

This was mentioned in the RB9 thread days ago when the tea tray was tested and found to be perfectly legal. http://forums.autosp...2013/?p=6480991
