I went ot the race of Champions last year  (just flew over for the Saturday)... it's a fantastic event IMO.  Bangkok - the location isn't the best (hard to find a cab to get you back into town - luckily for me some locals gave me a ride).   The drivers love it, they talk to the fans, you can actually get close to them - unlike at an F1 event.  I went because it was going to be the last time I could see MSC up close!!

Unfortunatley I cant' go this year as flying home the same day.  If anyone is in Asia - suggest you give it a go.

BRG - pretty sure they actually had to win the Asian Cup race to qualify..

I've sometimes wondered why successful F1 drivers like Coulthard and Ralf Schumacher were so poor in DTM. Never followed the series, so don't really know. At least Häkkinen won a few races, but that's about it. Anyone have some insight into this?

The driving style needed is completely different to F1. On the other hand, the competition is extremely fierce. And the difference between the cars very, very small. Between Pole and last position on the grid, there is sometimes not even a second. So you have to give everything, be totally committed to DTM, if you want to have success. This could not be said about Ralf and DC or Frentzen. But as you see with Glock: If you really try hard, you will succeed.

In this context, the performances of Susie weren't that bad. Granted, she is not a champion in a big series, but neither are a lot of ROC-participants in the recent years. Just remember Filipe Albuquerque. He was a total No-Name for most Fans, but won it in Düsseldorf. Or Kovalainen.

They may not have been widely known, but they were rated by those who did know them.

Albuquerque wasn't even rated hight by the experts. I was at the event as a Journo, there was nobody from the motorsport press from around the globe, that rated Filipe highly. It was a little different with Kovalainen, I admit.

Not highly, but I'd take Albuquerque over Stoddart/Wolff.

Really, the problem is that by having the likes of Chandok, Karthikeyan and Wolff in the event, the RoC has demonstrated that it is long past its sell-by date.  It started to go downhill when it left Gran Canaria for random stadiums.

Put it out of its misery, Michelle!
