This situation is quite unfair 

 

Brian Scott was going to win a race, but Kyle Bush bumped him out of the lead.

It happens that Scott is a career man and Kyle is a NASCAR star and also an employer, as is Keselowski, Dale Jr, The Dillons [sort of].

They don't race on equal terms.

 

Life isn't fair. Film at 11:00.

 

Let's get rid of the Cup drivers and have 125 people in the stands with 10,000 watching on TV. I'm sure the series will last a long time.

If it needs Cup drivers to survive then it should shut down because it is a worthless ass series that doesn't mean ****. They've already lost the NW sponsorship.

 

Oh, and the few ratings that were recorded are higher last year when Stenhouse and Sadler were winning races than this year.

Toyota should pay someone like Elliot Sadler to wreck JJ on lap 1 next week. That's practically the only way JJ loses the Chase championship.

Bad time for Gibbs to have one of its worst Cup weekends of the year. In spite of the team and driver's experience, the #20 hasn't been in this chase situation in many years, and maybe that had some effect. At least the strategies made it entertaining for most of the event. Was wondering how Logano didn't wind up further to the front when it sorted out as it somehow remained green for the long cycle he started pitting while leading.

If we bitching about nationwide now, I want to give my opinion. I don't watch. I don't have a driver I care about in that series. I like Bayne, but he hasn't really impressed me enough to watch on a regular basis. When Bubba gets to Nationwide I will watch weekly. 

 

As for Cup driver's in it, sorta puts a damper of things. It would be weird as hell to watch Vettel, Seb, and King Hamilton, mess around in GP2 for fun. If King Hamilton did that, I would get no real thrill or satisfaction from watching him win. Same if Jeff Gordon went down to Nationwide. So what, you beat up on some scrubs, go do that **** on Sunday. I think they need to severely limit the number of starts Cup regulars can make in the series if NASCAR is serious about keeping the Nationwide as a development series. How can I get pumped about new and rising talent in that series, if new and rising talent never wins?

Montoya with a decent drive to 6th.  His crew chief really did him right this day.  He said his brake pedal was getting really long and to please take some tape off the brake ducts.  The call had been for two tyres and one can of gas, and Sunshine said sorry, I can't do the brakes for you.

 

Montoya didn't complain and soldiered on to a 6th place finish.  Well done to the #42 team.  Anyone who thinks they've lost their motivation is on drugs.

Maybe it is. I am just bemoaning my lost and futile support of the damned in motorsport. As in... my life and choices are a reflection of my poor habits in my main motorsport dudes. At least I am not Kenseth right now.

Not at the rate of this year, no. Kyle was struggling in his own equipment, decided that he didn't like it and took his money to a top-line Gibbs machine. Keselowski and Logano drove less races than this year. I know Cup guys will always race and get their wins, but running the majority of the races in the best equipment is detrimental to development. No other racing series allows this but yet it's NASCAR that "needs" Cup guys to invade its DEVELOPMENTAL series to keep it alive? If it needs that, than is a sick product that should just let die or NASCAR should rethink its model.

I feel you. HMS is the only great, consistent winner I pull for in sports. Titans, Tennessee Volunteers, Memphis Grizzlies, Lewis Hamilton, Nashville Preds, Cincinnati Reds. None of those teams are perennial front runners in their respective sports, but they do just enough to break your heart.

It's odd. I don't care for Vettel, I don't enjoy seeing him win, but I do enjoy seeing Jimmie win. I suppose it is because I really like Jimmy and his team. I am nothing if not a tall, handsome, hypocrite.

Man, this race was tough on the backmarkers.  I wonder if NASCAR changed something to encourage the start-and-parkers to run until they crash, because that seemed to have been the strategy employed by many of them today.  Other than that, the moment of the race was the second caution, for Joe Nemechek not crashing.  The announcers were literally speechless for what seemed like a minute.

So it looks like Matt Crafton just needs to drive a few laps and he's the Truck champ. 

Well deserved title this year, but it will be a meh finale. Unless Cale Gale is racin'. 

 

The closest battle is in Nationwide with Dillon EarnHat Sr. just 8 points over the guy that isn't Brad. 

To show their appreciation to the fans who came to see them and only them, Cup stars Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano and Matt Kenseth will drive 4-wide at 45mph for the final 10 laps of the race.   

 

And ****. Jimmie's gonna do it. Six-Time sounds awful. But that's six more than Kyle, so that'll be nice. 

Kenseth has gone and had a mare. If it happens again old Shithead could take second in the championship.

I sugest the following: we nominate a poster and a reserve poster in case of a rainout. But all previous OPers send the nominee their contributions to make one final mega OP, obviously the nominee get's to contribute his share. There may be no championship run at Miami (c'mon, who belives Hornish can still do it?), but that small detail should not stop us from having fun. I will start doign my digging right now and place my vote on OLB with the reserve vote going to JP.

How many people watch an Indy Lights race in person and on TV? How many would attend if the Indy Lights race was held at a different track than the Indycar race?

Not sure what your point is here. Has nothing to do with what I said (where did I say that the NW series should be completely standalone, weekend packaging is a good part of attendance.).

 

Are you implying that NASCAR would have a similar fate to Indy Lights? It wouldn't, NASCAR is a completely different set-up than Indy, most of the lower level drivers are able to build up a decent following due to grassroots short track racing before even stepping in the the top three tiers. It's how drivers like Kyle Larson, Dylan Kwasniewski, and the Dillon Brothers had fans before even stepping foot into NASCAR. The attendance would be fine. Again, there were no drops in TV ratings during standalone races and the Truck ratings haven't fallen off whenever Cup guys decide to not race.

I think the old Busch series was doing OK with only sporadic involvement by Cup guys.  Back then it was pretty much just Mark Martin, and an occasional race by half a dozen more drivers.

You're assuming that Nationwide (or trucks for that matter) are primarily development series.  That's not how they started and while driver, crew and team development do happen that's not the primary intent of the lower divisions.  They were started as lower divisions and when testing started being limited and smaller teams were using Cup drivers to lure sponsors and fans the big teams started to get involved.  It was intended as a destination for those that couldn't make it to Cup or didn't have the funds.  It's since changed but the primarly focus of the series has never been a feeder series.
