So, who will be in the top seats in four years time?, do you think that Lotus and other teams have been saved from crises?, have a guess :-) . My prediction:

Mercedes AMG F1: Have won 2 world championships since 2014, one for Hamilton and one for Rosberg.

1. Lewis Hamilton, world champion in 2014
2. Nico Rosberg, world champion 2015

Scuderia Ferrari: employ Adrian Newey for his final few years until his retirement, won the championship in 2017, the year after Alonso leaves.

3. Nico Hulkenberg, won the 2017 world championship
4. Sebastien Vettel, no more world championships yet

Mclaren-Honda, the bet on Honda engines pays off, winning both championships in 2016.

5. Kevin Magnusson, wins the world championship in 2016
6. Stoffel Vandoorne, comes 3rd in 2016

Red Bull-Renault: Slowly begin to drop down the order, no longer the works team as Renault rejoins F1 in 2015

7. Daniel Riccardo, best world championship result was 3rd in 2014
8. Jules Bianchi, waits in the ailing RB for a seat to open up at Ferrari

Renault, return as a manufacturer under new regulations, re buying the Enstone team

9. Romain Grosjean, unable to find a seat elsewhere, he is stuck at Enstone.
10. Robert Frijns

Sauber-Ferrari, manage to survive but only just on Russian money.

11. Antonio Felix da Costa, made the jump from former Toro Rosso team
12. Sergey Sirotkin, has failed to impress so far, may leave F1 next year

Infinity Racing-Mercedes, former Force India team is bought by Infinity (current sponsors of Lotus) after Vijay ruhs out of cash a few years ago

14. Daniel Kyvat, has been at the team a few years now.
15. Unknown

Minardi, the Red Bull squad can no longer afford to keep Toro Rosso running, it is sold and renamed Minardi.

16. Unknown
17. Unknown

Williams, are still back markers, after Frank passes away, Claire trys to keep the team going.

18. Felipe Massa, his final season of F1
19. Unknown

RUSSIAN TIME-Hyundai, Marussia fail to find money, their licence is bought by GP2 team RUSSIAN TIME

20.
21.

Volkswagen/Audi/Porsche, Caterham has gone from the grid, Volkswagen in one of its forms has taken up the spot with many of the engineers from Caterham.

22. Paul di Resta, bring in the scot from DTM to take the lead in the team.

23. unknown

Might as well discuss which of the races shown on this ultra reliable 2022 draft will be appearing on that 2018 calendar.

I dont see why the Disneyland gp wouldn't be an even better idea than new jersey or austin, i think i would actually really help improve the audience in the U.S.

I'll be in a Ferrari.  That's about as accurate as any other prediction you can make for 2018.

Sounds like a fine rebranded name for a Grand Prix held at some useless Tilkering in Bangladesh.

...and I say that Vietnam does not have enough money to lure Bernie into bringing the circus to them.

Other than that, it's a prediction as accurate as it can get at this time. Especially about the part of Caterham and Marussia departures...unfortunately, if they keep up this 2nd league approach, jokes aside, this might very well be a  real possibility.

McLaren. Hamilton, stayed with Merc for 14 -15, no WDC, had one unhappy year at Ferrari and has just moved back to McLaren.

Mercedes. Rosberg stayed throughout. 2nd in 2015 and 2016.

Sauber. Sutil brought back from another Sabbatical to save the team once again.

Williams. Hulkenburg came second in 2017 WDC and stays with Williams.

Ferrari. Vettel moved from Red Bull to Ferrari in 2015 just as the Italian team started to unravel. Stuck in contract. Best placing 4th.

Grosjean Won title for McLaren in 2015 booted out of team in 2017 and joined Force India, took opportunity to revive Ferrari.

Alonso, Button Retired. Massa long gone.

Caterham. Maldonado essentially put out to pasture after a turbulent three seasons at Lotus, Ferrari and Force India.

Chilton still in a trailing team ever since Marussa went to ground.

Yeah, I think generally some things are pretty hard to predict about 2018. Looking at recent years the driver turnover has been great. I watched Korea 2010 F1 highlights on Youtube and while top team line-ups are still basically the same (!), almost the whole midfield and back-of-the-field has changed. Also what is the F1 financial situation in 2018? We might still have lots of paydrivers, yeah probably will. There will be quite a few guys we haven't heard about anything yet. Who knew anything about Magnussen jr or Kvyat 3-4 years ago?

I guess Vettel, Hamilton, Rosberg will be there. Hulkenberg too if he somehow survives the financial crisis and finally gets a proper paid seat. Maybe Ricciardo, Grosjean and/or somebody else from the current grid (Bottas?) if they manage to improve themselves and prove very good signings for a top team long-term. Same with Magnussen. However, the rest of the field, which means the majority of drivers, will likely have changed. Paydrivers come and go, Maldonado and PDVSA will not survive till 2018.

Ferrari will be there. I think Red Bull will be as well, at least in some form. McLaren, with Honda or somebody else, will. Others I don't know. Sauber and Williams have stayed for long, but future is open. However, I think the bases will remain the same, which is important. Be it Milton Keynes, Enstone, Grove, Hinwil. It is super-difficult to build up a new team from scratch in a new location (like Toyota at Cologne). Even more so there are likely not be enough investors over the next 4 years willing to do so in the financial crisis, they are much more likely prepared to invest into an existing team. Of course Caterham and Marussia and HRT built up a team from scratch, but it has got them nowhere. So the bases will be the same, just the question is who will be the owners of Enstone, Hinwil and teams like these.

Just took a look at my crystal ball and saw that the format for the inaugral PIRELLI Disneyland Grand Prix of 2018 will feature qualifying session that requires the mandatory use of spec PIRELLI wet weather tyres regardless of the conditions. Cars not reaching Q3 sessions will be able to start the race with whatever compound they wish, but the top10 must start the race with PIRELLI wets too. Those inside Q3 will also be unable to use the DRS, nitro-boost and shortcut chicanes during the opening 15 laps of the race. However, as the race start will be delayed by 2 hours if there's a higher than 10% chance of light rain during the race window (which appears be the case here), there is a chance that PIRELLI may be allowing extra allowances for teams in the top 3 of the manufacturers championship. The scheduled wet race of the season won't be happening until in China later this year where the popular dampers will be used either two or three times during the Grand Prix.

All 22 drivers are related to Romain, Max, Perez and Pastor. These four families and their backers have bought all teams and 75% of the races are now held in Latin-America.

Bernie has changed his family name to PVSDA-Total-Telemex-Chilton.

Current top drivers were offered reserve drivers seats, but few accepted. Losers will get as many points as the winner and Pirelli will be blamed for poor racing -- even though they left the sport in 2015. The new supplier of tyres is Cheng Shin Rubber from Taiwan.

Autosport forum is more active than ever, praising the bold vision of Bernie.

In 2018 a sensational 19-year-old rookie Sebastian Ramirez from Argentina in Red Bull Racing beats 31-year-old experienced German Sebastian Vettel, while driving for Ferrari, to the title. The king has been defeated, which immediately raises questions whether the by far the youngest world champion of all times can now start catching and beating Vettel's Formula One records.

They've all gone 'back' to the WRC, now in a new golden era with wild looking cars, rallycross events included and several rallies in the growing US market.

Jokes aside, the drivers who will be there:

Vettel, Lewis, Rosberg. Alonso and Kimi if they don't retire.

Ricciardo, Bottas, Magnussen, Kvyat, Grosjean and Bianchi all have a high probability so long as they don't drop it like Perez this year.

Alonso and Kimi have gone to WEC to spearhead Ferrari's LMP effort... the racing is much more exciting there anyway by 2018.

Jazeman Jaafar will be on the grid in 2018.

This will be a precondition to securing Petronas sponsorship deal once they decide to severe their relationship with Mercedes AMG GP. We need a Malaysian driver on the grid....  :D

So Vettel, Lewis, Rosberg. Alonso and Kimi will be, respectively, 33 35 35 39 and 41. Just in case we've forgotten, once Webber goes at the end of this year the oldest driver on the 2014 grid will be... Kimi. I'd like to think that younger, faster and hungrier drivers will have forced out the old guard by 2018.

What are you talking about? Vettel will be only 31 - close to his prime. Lewis And Rosberg will be 33, so they might be in F1 in 2018. I doubt Alonso and Kimi will be, though.

Kimi will have gone by that time, and probably Fernando also   ;) ( they will be 38 and 36 , respectively in 2018 by the way )

I predict 2016 will be Kimi's last season in F1 and If Fernando still show some solid performance or still enjoy racing , his last season can be 2018 at latest.

2018 F1 Drivers and Teams  :p

Vettel and Bianchi will be driving Ferrari.

Hamilton and Magnussen will be at Mercedes.

Kvyat and Ricciardo will be at Infinity Red Bull.

Alonso (if stays ) / Rosberg and Vardoorne will be at McLaren-Honda

Frijns and Bottas will be at Lotus( or the team whatever its name will be at that time )

Massa and Hugo Hakkinen will be at Williams-Mercedes

Hulk and sirotkin will at Sauber-Ferrari (backed by Russian investors )

Perez  and an American driver will at Team U.S

Adam Khan and Marco Sorensen will at Real Quantum Motorsports

Felix Da Costa and a young finnish driver will be at  Toro Rosso-BMW

18 yr old Russian and 22 ys old Belgian drivers will be at Lada Motors

Mirko Bortolotti and jr Al Quasimi will be at Scuderia UAE

Charles Pic wins his second consecutive World Drivers Championship in the season finale at the Google Voice Myanmar Grand Prix.

Charles Pic  McLAREN-HONDA  6312 pts
Mitch Evans  McLAREN-HONDA  6292 pts
Sebastian Vettel  RED BULL RENAULT  5246 pts
Arthur Pic  McLAREN-HONDA  4244 pts
Romain Grosjean  RED BULL RENAULT  3240 pts
Sun Zheng  McLAREN-HONDA  2209 pts
Daniil Kvyatt  RED BULL RENAULT  2176 pts
Jules Bianchi  FERRARI  1121 pts
Daniel Ricciardo  RED BULL RENAULT  963 pts
Arjun Maini  FERRARI  852 pts
Sergey Sirotkin  FERRARI  25 pts
Max Chilton  FERRARI  22 pts

Made some slight changes. New point system and all (Sergey and Max still score same amount of points though).

Other rule changes include:

  • Passive-aggressive Quadruple-DRS which reduces ground effect too now and limits the car in front to the first gear for 20.732 seconds.
  • 12 different Pirelli tyres (ranging from bubblegum to stone) however all teams are forced to switch to a certain tyre at a certain lap as defined by the FIA before the weekend.
  • Fuel is banned.
