"@birtymotogp: So Valentino Rossi just confirmed in Valencia that Jerry Burgess will not be his crew chief in 2014. #shocked"
Hope he knows what he's doing.

"But I decide for next year I need to change something to try to find new motivation and a new boost - to improve my level, my speed. I think that this is our last race together with Jerry, yes."

"I think that next year Jeremy will not be my chief mechanic," said Rossi. "It was a very difficult decision for me because I have a great history with Jeremy. He is not just my chief mechanic, he is like a part of the family. My 'father' for racing.

I did not see this one coming...

It will have to be a very messed up weekend for us to reach 99!

Strange to suddenly drop Jeremy Burgess for his last season in MotoGp (i assume). And from the way Valentino says it i assume he made the decision and not together. Rossi might rather just accept he just isn't up to the fight for the WDC anymore and be happy with some podiums and a possible victory, because it aint gonna get better next year with another crew chief.
Besides that the production Honda seems very very good, Stoner just 0.3 sec down on the factory bike and with the softs even just 0.17 sec. I sure hope Ducati will improve for next year or else they will have an even harder time next year.

I agree. Rossi is doing whatever he can to make it work. But now it HAS to work.

Wonder if Burgess will stick around or knock it all on the head now.
Would be nice to see him take a young rider like Jack Miller under his wing, nice challenge for him.

The Caterham team manager will be Johan Stigefelt, former racer and team boss of Stiggy Racing in WSB.

I wonder how much Jorge is getting paid to adorn his helmet with full COD sponsorship?

I don't know about the tyres but Bridgestone has the world champion cap ready...

Looks like one of the reason Rossi dropped Burgess was that he wouldn't commit past the end of 2014. (So Vale plans on continuing in 2015?)
Rossi told Yamaha his plans to drop Burgess after Motegi and only told Burgess yesterday.
I reckon Burgess will retire, IIRC he has been wanting to retire for a while now.

Marques totally dominates free practice 1 !
Or just edges out Lorenzo....
Whichever tickles your fancy.
At any rate: Marques 1 - Lorenzo 0.

Would be nice if Burges could have ended his career at Honda. He is Honda family.

To me they looked quite even together with Pedrosa who I think slightly had the edge of the three.
Also impressive FP from Smith, who was the only frontrunner on the harder front tire.

I wouldn't be surprised is Pedrosa wins on Sunday. (on pace)

There is no way that its actually 0.3 seconds slower than a Repsol bike.
That would leave Gresini paying €1 Million per tenth for his bikes extra speed
Sales B.S.
It'll be a minimum of 0.6 seconds with 0.8-0.9 probably being the actual gap.
Why would Rossi want to win the World Darts Championship?
And when you say anymore, do you mean that he's entered it before?
Why was there no media coverage of this????

If people read Vale's book, he was always the one trying to persude Jerry to do things, not the other way round.
I seriuously doubt Valentino was pushing for this, we all know Jerry has had some personal issues these past years and really what has he got to prove?
His light has dimmed as much as Vale's in recent years and that is a shame as his record is likely to be the best ever for many years.
I would guess it is not simply Vale's decision, Jerry wants to win, maybe even more so that Rossi (his words not mine) and that MUST be a factor.
Be interesting to see if Jerry stays in GP though

Very interesting news.
To me this is ultimately a good thing in that it shows that Rossi is still motivated and hungry to win and not thinking about retirement just yet. And more of Rossi can't be a bad thing.
Can you imagine if Rossi works his ass off and actually wins the championship next year?

Maybe Vale knows a bit better if he lost it or not? I think he wasn't going to do this unless he felt it necessary so it should be interesting to watch.

Asked it had been a massive kick in the teeth to find out he was being replaced by Rossi, Burgess said: “Obviously I am disappointed but I can understand that some sort of change was necessary.
"History will prove the outcome of this adjustment but the main thing is the adjustment is to try and improve the overall package for Valentino. If this is what does it then it has been a success. I am comfortable with everything and I have got a pretty good set up around me at home.”
Rossi was asked why news announced now and not after last race "Because some f*king journalist leaked it" Leaks come from the inside though?
@ianwheeler @matoxley team members know what they are doing when they talk to journos same as journos know when news is embargoed
@ianwheeler @matoxley leaves a very bad taste in my mouth this one

Someone should tell Rossi the leak is when the information gets TO the journalist not made public by the journalist.

Well i hope for his fans and him he is right but it would surprise me, this season has proved he is behind the top 3 guys and it would surprise me if a new crew chief would suddenly get him to the top. This just leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

After this weekend, all of the UK commentators will be playing musical chairs. At least 4 of them are going to be receiving their UB40's as BT Sport take over MotoGP broadcasting in 2014.
I don't give a FF who goes to BT, but I really do hope that the brilliant Eurosport pairing of Jack Burnicle and James Whitham remains unchanged. Here's an example why they are so good

You won't hear humour like that from Squeeky and Pompous.

I think Rossi is deluding himself if he thinks a new crew chief will make him a challenger next year. As Burgess says, history will tell us in due time, but I suspect Burgess himself will be happy enough to see him fail after this rather shabby treatment.
It's a last resort...
Told y'all Rossi was not enjoying this one bit, regardless of what he's said. He still has his pride. I am still of the opinion that if next year goes like this, he'll quit.
P.S. Whomever his new mechanic is, could be catapaulted into stardom if Yamaha fixes their braking issues. He'll get credit for the improvement.

You can't see it from this angle, but JLo gives MM a little nudge when he stops behind him.

Yes, he did. When Marc was asked about it by the Spanish media, he said that first, he was a little shocked to see that it was Lorenzo who hit him but he did not want to waste much time talking about it even though they insisted quite a bit... I don't know why because I agree with Marc, nothing to pay much attention to, I guess it was just a silly joke intent from Jorge.

It appears Scott Redding is only going through the motions this weekend - not that I blame him.
Will he be trying out the Honda on Monday ?

According to FB he is. I think he's just hoping his wrist will be strong enough.

The Cheste track just announced that people without tickets should not try to get to the track, as they are completely sold out - what a great way to close this championship!

Nice atmosphere at the Rossi/Burgess press conference - could be cut with a cricket stump.
What can Rossi expect tomorrow - leaking fuel injector, cracked exhaust, square wheels, run out of fuel....

And yeah, I'm afraid he is going to go for the win... And he is going to send me to the hospital with a nervous breakdown...
