Vettel was definitely the class of Formula Vettel once again this year, quite an amazing result considering he's the only one that category.
As for Formula 1 which the rest of us are watching, it was a good season by Alonso with Hulkenberg and Grosjean standing out. And maybe Rosberg.

You've put two drivers in there who didn't even beat their own teammates in the points in Grosjean and Perez. Grosjean was much improved in the 2nd half and to me is now one of the top drivers, but Perez over Button?

Putting Hulkenberg on top in most of the list just proves that in F1 you're as good as your last few races.
If he was driving like that when the car was good, presumably he was driving just as well for 10th earlier in the season?
Gutierrez scored 6 points to Nico's 51. That's why he's high on most people's lists.

1. Max Chilton -amazing consistency across the season
2. Heikk Kovalainen -100% consistency in finishing positions
3. Jules Bianchi - clearly better than all the champions whose performance is masked by fast cars.
4. Lewis Hamilton - finished 4th in the championship despite moving to a team clearly slower than McLaren.
5. Mark Webber - great results considering he was the only Red Bull driver having any bad luck this year.
6. Davide Valsecchi - his results were sadly masked by the lack of a car.
7. Robin Frijns - fastest of all the test drivers that turned down the Red Bull junior program.
8. Kimi Räikkönen - finished 5th in the championship despite missing two races. Would not have done that if he drove the other Lotus car.
9. Fernando Alonso - he wouldn't have finished 2nd in the championship if he wasn't driving a Ferrari.
10. Sebastian Vettel - he wouldn't have won the championship if he wasn't driving a Red Bull.

1. Vettel - doing the best job with the best car is still doing the best job.
2. Alonso - we all know, nothing needs to be said.
3. Grosjean - a complete 180 on previous seasons. One Vettel DNF away from victory on multiple occasions.
4. Hulkenberg - the love for him everywhere is too much to stomach but I definitely buy the hype.
5. Hamilton - did as much as it was reasonable to expect with that car.
6. Rosberg - same as above.
7. Raikkonen - when he's on it no one else can match it, but half the time seems unable to muster the commitment needed to eat an ice cream cone.
8. Button - endless radio moaning but I'm endless internet moaning so I'm starting to identify with Button's disgruntled outlook. Did as much as could be expected, really.
9. Webber - an okay season from a slightly-better-than-okay driver.
10. Chilton - 19 finishes out of 19 races in your first season is nothing to laugh at, whether it's at the back of the grid or the front.

1. Vettel - Class of his own. Could have won all races if Pirelli's new tyres were there all season.
2. Raikkonen - Great start to the season, sad to see how he's left Lotus.
3. Alonso - Not as good as in 2012, slightly in decline perhaps?
4. Hamilton - Remarkable start to his Mercedes career. I hope he and the team progress next season.
5. Hulkenberg - Great end to the season, sad to see he's only moving back to Force India, instead of a step up the grid.
6. Rosberg - Two wins and a new points record for him. Very solid year, not very spectacular though
7. Grosjean - Poor start to the season, but stepped up massively after Raikkonen's announcement to Ferrari.
8. Button - Very poor car, managed to do his best with it.
9. Webber - Not a single win, but still managed third in the championship
10. Di Resta - Started the season well, mid season slump, but rounded off the year okay.

Grosjean, from going from a complete right off driver to a driver that most people consider possible top class in one season is incredible.
Perez, i belive he did very well (mistakes aside) and all under the pressure of his own team. Button was nowhere until Brazil. imo

And despite your opinion, still outscored Perez. How bad is Perez then if he can't beat what you think is a poor season from Jenson?

so you rate his 2013 season by basically ignoring all the bad races he had, especially in the first half?

Lewis a bit disappointed me this year. Gro was impressive recently, but it's the whole season that counts, so... So I'm going by WDC standings and choosing Alonso.

1. Sebastian Vettel. Great season, superb consistency and speed, everything. His biggest blip was making a mistake in Chinese GP Q3, but still had a strong comeback drive there.
2. Fernando Alonso. Great season, his only let-down compared to Vettel was him being outqualified by Massa on quite a few occasions. But his racing was consistently great, allowing in only a couple of blips early in the season (Malaysia & Monaco).
3.-4. Lewis Hamilton. Have a super-hard time choosing between the two drivers. A solid season by Hamilton. On occasions outperformed by his team-mate, but overall beat him (though by a small margin).
3.-4. Kimi Raikkonen. Very promising season with a win and lots of second places. This is where I would have positioned him above Hamilton, but season started to derail, when he started to get regularly getting outqualified by Grosjean and leaving himself a lot of work to do on race-days.
5.-6. Nico Rosberg. Good season, cementing his reputation as a very competitive racing driver, who can win WDC in the right circumstances, but isn't quite the creme de la creme.
5.-6. Nico Hulkenberg. Impressive season. Maybe even more so than 2012, when it took him half a year to get up-to-speed. Almost always outperformed non-benchmark Gutierrez. Got some points early in the season, when car was rubbish. Got big points later in the season, when the car came good. Legitimately raced against Hamilton and Alonso on multiple occasions in what can be rated as roughly a comparable machinery.
7. Jenson Button. Decent season, especially the string of results mid-season. But questionmark is left, when he was outqualified by Perez by 10-9, and the Mexican admittedly isn't a qualifying ace. Also alleged rumours that Button's shine may have dropped a bit due to the benchmark of Hamilton having left.
8. Romain Grosjean. Award to him as the most improved driver of the year. He has still some work cut out for him to prove he is really on level with the drivers above, but with the performance he has shown he seems comfortably a top 10 driver on the grid now.
9. Mark Webber. Not a spectacular season, even by his standards. Still got lots of decent results, podiums and was a solid rear-gunner behind Vettel, even though the greatness of the car made it a little bit easier.
10. Daniel Ricciardo. Constantly qualified well, gets the kudos for improving his racing as well, so he doesn't drop behind Vergne on Sundays. Still questionmark left on some aspects of his driving, like starts. But these will be answered next year. Obviously RBR sees at least something in him to promote him, so this is also a factor in his consideration in the list.
HM (Honorable mention): Paul di Resta. Despite the claims he has had his chance, he is a very solid mid-field runner and managed to get points in many situations, also when he started close to the back in some races. His main blip was three or four consecutive crashes, which have dropped him outside top 10.
I am tempted to add Sergio Perez to HM list as well. In mid-season it looked like he was going to get badly outscored by Button, but in the end managed to compete/match the pace of the WDC in many races. And only some inconsistency in early and mid-season races left him behind.
Did I forget someone?
Massa, Maldonado, Sutil - don't really make it into top 10.
Bottas - promising, but not proven enough to get a high ranking.
Bianchi - even less proven.
Vergne - unfortunately very underwhelming this year bar two or three races.
Gutierrez, Pic, van der Garde, Chilton - meh.
Kovalainen - not rated and didn't show much in his two outings.

1) Vettel - god damnit.
2) Alonso - he might not have dominated Massa in qualifying as much as he has in the past, but he still proved he was Mr. Sunday pretty much every race weekend.
3) Hulkenberg - his performances early on didn't get recognized as much due to the car not being great, but he really impressed non-stop for me, this year.
4) Hamilton - could still showcase his magic on occasion. Had some lows, though.
5) Raikkonen - another solid season, but his drop in form in the 2nd half of the season drops him from 3rd to 5th on this list.
6) Grosjean - couldn't put it together early on, but showed he's a considerable contender once he's on-song.
7) Rosberg - put up a damn good fight against Lewis overall, but still feels like he lacks that something special when the cards are down.
8) Bottas - I think in a better car, his achievements would have been noticed more. Didn't exactly dominate Pastor, but fared well better than could be expected and gets my rookie of the year award.
9) Ricciardo - I'd say he finally put a stamp on his teammate, something which hasn't happened for years in Toro Rosso. Definitely showed real flashes of talent again.
10) Bianchi - very hard to tell given the lack of coverage, but he did all that anybody could have asked. Won Marussia 10th in the WCC and obliterated Chilton(who isn't quite as useless as people think).
As much as I like Webber, I simply couldn't bring myself to put him on the list. I thought he had a pretty disappointing season in what was *by far* the best car on the grid.
The McLaren duo might have been hampered by the car, but I don't think Button really impressed over Perez as much as he should have and I think Perez was ultimately the clown of the year, despite a few flashes of speed against his teammate.
Di Resta also had some good showings, but it was intermingled with some quite bad showings(and to be fair, a smattering of bad luck as well).
The rest? Well, lets just say they should be grateful if they still have seats next year.
