Free Practice for 2 hours

Pre-Qualifying for 2 hours*

Qualifying for 1 hour**

Morning Warm-up for 20 minutes

Post-Weekend Monday Test Session for 4+4hours on selected (non-street) circuits - Voluntary***

* provided my suggestions mentioned on that 3rd car / customer car thread were followed

** no knockout crap

*** voluntary as in the dream scenario in season testing would be unlimited just as it is in proper motor racing

No. They should select a few GPs, 3 or 4, and have 6 hours of free tracktime on Thursday so teams can test and do development work. Two drivers per team with one being young driver or test driver.

I have seen two GPs, both in Asia and there is hardly any public in on Fridays - so those thinking it will reduce spectator time is not valid. One reason why the appeal of F1 is waning is because nobody has the time in their right minds to spend 3 days watching one sporting event. People need to get their thrill in a couple of hours and get it done with. I dont care what they do with free practice, but they need to club qualy + race in a single day and get it done with in 4 hours time. To be honest, qualy has seemed much more exciting of late than the race itself, at least for the TV viewers. Reduce the ticket prices and keep it a one day event for the public - any free practice / test time can be optional and should definitely be free for TV and the spectators who wish to watch.

I completely agree about the over reliance of computer simulations etc, and certain technologies taking away from that. But there are other ways to address these issues than just having the cars line up on the grid randomly prepared. That just seems like applying amateurism to me as a sticking plaster to a wider problem.

Apologies if I didn't come across well before...

I wouldn't say removing 3hrs of practice would leave them lining up in amature/random fashion at all. They'd still have the sim and 1 hrs practice on Saturday morning. Remember they regularly concede about 1.5 hrs running on a Friday at the moment, so really we're taking about them loosing about 1.5hrs track time. Not enough for them to go racing completely in the dark, but enough for them to be under more pressure to find a qualy/race balance - with the opportunity for greater risk taking to be rewarded and mistakes to be punished. One down side to this proposal would be that the teams became even more cautious on tyre wear - to the extend that I really think we need to get rid of those tyre sensors!!!
