IMO, the M1 looks like a street bike with decals. Yawn.

Lorenzo to Ducati would be a bombshell.

Doesn't Jorge make around $13 million a year now at Yamaha? It makes zero sense to go to Ducati for only $2 more mill a year. If he turned down Honda last year for mo' money then he's loyal to Yamy for the longhaul. Preseason BS...

I was under the impression that was the total package, 2 years at $6 million a year. Story is that Ducati is offering $15 million a year, more than double. If I am not mistaken that is also what Ducati was paying Rossi.

Andy

Yeah, I'll miss Tobby too!  :drunk:

Lorenzo to Ducati would be a disaster. Primary interest, for me anyway, is watching Jorge v The Hondas, wouldn't fancy watching him fighting with the CRTs, or whatever they'll be called.

Lowes (Alex) fastest on Portimao day two. He's never been to the circuit before. Fan-bloody-tastic.

Sam's got to do something pretty spectacular in Moto2 now. :)

I'm just happy for Lowes. He's been on Laverty's pace immediately and we know what a talent he is.

Danny Webb will race in this year's TT

I wonder who was the last rider to race both in GP and the TT the same year ?

Fogarty in 1990, certainly. William Dunlop did a 250 GP in 2009 as well. The likes of McGuinness and Rutter did GP racing in the late 90s alongside TT entries.

I can't find anyone past William Dunlop in 2009. In terms of full-time rides, it must be Rutter in 1999.

Awesome, cant wait to see her getting in the way more and more and more.

Dont get the lass, she could perhaps podium in Supersport, those races get more than enough exposure!

I bet Palmer fronts upto try and get her on the grid, but let;s face it, she would do better in Supersport. Seemsa waste of time.

She is actually handy at teh TT, I reckon she could do better in road racing bizarrely.

She's a talented rider. The problem is that she barely has a budget. Her team is just a handful of people and the bike isn't anywhere near the full-on superbike spec of the main teams. I think they do a pretty good job given the circumstances. She took the bike to a Thundersport round last year and dominated the meeting.

She has doen Thundersport rounds before, proves nothing really, the guys there are on Superstock bikes really, nothing flash, and to be honest if you are tooling around at the back of a Superstock or BSB grid you are still going to be up front at most clubbies

I dont doubt the lasses talent, but I think she would do herself and her team more justice in Superstockmaybe or certainly BSS< where I believe she could be top 10 every week.

Meh. There is virtually no money in the sport and so many riders, even in top rides, get absolutely nothing.  I'm glad there is just another bike on the grid and don't give a rats as that the money is coming from his old man.

Hell, I wish I could be as 'untalented' as Abraham is reputed to be the internet snarks.

I have little interest in watching races where there are 25 bikes but the 5th place bloke is 20 seconds behind the winner.

If you wanna watch that fella, then there is planty of club level stuff you can see that going on.

For the top level of GP, it would be nice if there were fewer pay riders and more talent. Why doesnt Abrahams Dad stop pushing the poor kid, who looks pasty and under duress at the best of times, to stop hurting himself, and put someone good on the bike!

Its a simple idea, teams ahve been doing it for decades, jeezzz

Well let's wait a little while. If Karel Hanika (the Moravian Marquez, as no one yet calls him) struggles for backing to move up to the premier class in five years time it's very possible that the AB Cardion team will be in a position to help him.

I believe the EVO rules are the way to go, an international production based series where locals can compete on equal machinery. Superbikes of today is so far removed from what you can but off the showroom floor or even buy to race its an alternative to MotoGp in most regards and I don't think that is what it's meant to be. I, for one, don't buy this "dumbing down" approach will spoil the series. WSBK lost it's way years ago and been on a steady decline.

Not sure wWSB has been on its way down, nor as Superbikes. BSB is doing fine, and they were the first to implement this type of rule.

I think in a few years WSB will be fairly similar, the stupid electronics budgets in WSB of recent years could not be continued, Biaggi using over 30 engines a year etc, it was getting pathetic.

Sadly, coz of the turnaround in ownerships I dont think Dorna could be arsed to do anything quickly, remembr when the tyres were changed to Pirelli, all the manufacturers stormed off in a huff?  They soon came back coz the racing was good and figures got good too.

it will be the same, and it will also hopefully mean wild cards, part of the progression for teamsw as the ability to wildcard, am sure GSE would have got there eventually, but surely their wins in 99 showed them they could compete on a world stage, and that is prevented.

Up to FiM really to introduce a standard Superbike rulebook, but like most governing bodies they just sit there and take the money instead of doing anything useful.

Local entries were really competitive in WSBK as late as 2008. Watched Tom Sykes -- then a Suzuki rider -- in a fantastic duel with Troy Bayliss at Donington that year. Parity of rules is easy to achieve, parity of expectations from the stakeholders in the different series is the difficult part.

Speaking of which, does AMA Superbike still have its liberal electronics rules? I know they kept them in place longer than BSB.

Absolutely. The original intent of the series is much nearer the Superstock formula than what we currently have. The heavily modified machines that are currently raced should be in MotoGP. They share very little with the bike they are based on.

Imho BSB is just a national series. A good one, butjust a national series.

The 30 engine/season was an urban legend - I think Gigi D mentioned that. If you count a 3-4 times renewed/refreshed (I' don't know what is the correct word for that) engine same as 3-4 new engine, maybe the 30 are right, but don't forget, those engines was stock based engines, so those were much cheaper than a prototype GP engines.

Imho WSB was in good shape before Dorna comes (2011?). The problems begins there, because the teams/factories didn't know what Dorna want, they only feel that GP will be always Dorna's fav.

More teams/bikesare good, but if the factory teams leave the series, there will be no teams who able to paid top riders, and the sponsor backing will count more than just the pure talent. Just look at the WTCC what happen after factories reduce their involvement there (or the current F1 compared ti early 2000's).

Maybe the grid will be bigger, there will good fights on the track, but the level of competition wil be decrease.

Well, take a look to the current road sport bikes. They are much closer to the GP level than an SBK race bike was in the 70's/80's to the 70's/80's GP level.

Imho the space between SBK and superstock is/was a good thing. This gave a rank to the series.

I think you're wrong, the grid's size has been in constant decline until this year (and look at how many bikes we'll have without the EVO entries). Having factory entries is good, but factories come and go depending on how their marketing department and/or stakeholders feel that year. What you need is a formula that will allow factories to show their skills if they want to spend money in the series, but also allow privateers to be competitive and do more than just trying to survive. Because they're the ones that will stay when the factories leave. And I believe EVO rules wil allow that.

Very honest tweet from Laverty:

@eugenelaverty

So I got ditched by my energy drink sponsor. And now they’ve signed the guy that edged me to the 2013 title. Loyalty is a thing of the past.

Aprilia Racing Director: "We remain in the Superbike World Championship

http://www.speedweek...perbike-WM.html

2015 will be only Evo bikes allowed. The problem is that no one knows the design of the regulations. But I can say that we will stay next year in the World Superbike Championship. Although not yet clear how the bike will look like, The uncertainty makes everything more difficult, of course. We want to prepare ourselves in the best possible, but do not waste time and money. I hope soon, negotiations resumed, so that there will be a set of regulations as soon as possible. "
