Apparently Kobayashi will race with number 10 and 9 for Ericsson.

Perfect 10? ;)

Now Sirotkin is nowhere, what happened to the Russian money? Will he be affiliated with Sauber at all? Did they come to their senses and decided that actually winning races and battling for a Championship would strengthen Sirotkins possible advance to a F1 seat?

Joe Saward has just announced Di Resta is going back to DTM to race with Mercedes....

 I get that he was perhaps an awful driver and all he ever did was whine but I still rooted for him.

Who honestly cares? As Lotus proved last year, even if the regular race driver isn't competing, the reserve still doesn't have any chance.

But Senna got to do same races with Lotus as a reserve, when Boullier fell out of love with Heidfeld.

On the whole, however, I agree with you. Just hanging around with mostly no chance seems a real waste of time. Christian Klien hung around for about four years . . . which could have been time much better spent.

You don't become a DTM champion if you're an awful driver.

According to F1racing, VDG chose not to race for Caterham. For now only on the Dutch version of the site: http://www.gpupdate....-stap-voor-mij/

Rumours spread by EJ to cover the fact he got it wrong.   ;)

"He also claimed pole position for the prestigious Macau Grand Prix - beating a field which included future Formula 1 rivals Valtteri Bottas, Jules Bianchi, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Chilton – and finished fourth in the main event. It was enough to grab the attention of reigning Formula 1 champions Brawn GP, who ran Ericsson on all three days of the young driver test at Jerez in 2009."

"perhaps Abu Dhabi was a microcosm of his GP2 career. Ericsson claimed pole position but was deemed to have exceeded track limits and was demoted to the midfield. He nonetheless had the speed and aptitude to climb onto the podium and eventually finished the championship in sixth place."

I don't know what is allowed to link but I thought it was a pretty good piece of writing about his career so far

Agreed. There is nothing quite as tragic as the sight of a racing driver not racing.

Frijns + Rossi, Rossi drives GP2, in those weekends Frijns will take the Friday role

I'm just interested, as there will be more in-season testing and lots of simulator work will be needed. I don't necessarily care if they will get a chance to take part in a grand prix.

That's confirmed?

so Frijns isn't racing this year?

I'd like to see both Alex and Robin go head to head in GP2 at Caterham with AR besting RF. Giving Rossi some more cred.

InsearchOfThe, tbh i thik AR not racing FR might save him some credits, what are his changes of promoting to F1 if he would race RF and be defeated, which I think is a serious risk for him to happen in that case. Offcourse if a 2015 new USA team would come he would be on top of the list to get a seat but being beaten by your teammate looks bad.

That's true, but I think the only way to get better, and or gain respectablity is to have a teammate that is a know quanity and out pace him.

American drivers never get any props from the Euros, and American teams get even less. My point is he(Rossi) needs to have a great year in GP2 to get any play at the next level. F1 is a bigboy game so I'd rather see him earn his chops than maybe get a seat if Haas get's the 13th spot on ability not just nationality. If Haas doesn't get the spot maybe AR can have a legitimate chance at another F1 seat . And this is coming from an American and Rossi fan.

I actually hope Rossi will do well in GP2 this year. I think he is a great driver which he showed in his first season of Formula Renault 3.5, but 2012 and also 2013 weren't great compared to 2011.

Awful driver! One of the best but no funds. Thankfully there's not so much mediocrity in F1 this year now that the likes of Pic and VDG are gone but its a joke that drivers are losing drives not because of their talent.

InSearchOfThe, true it is Always better for drivers to get their seat based on merrit alone, not on nationality, but based on that Schumacher would most likely not even been in F1 or maybe later, missing the time frame to be at the right place at the right time.

Pushing for a driver of a nationality is not bad perse but just make sure it meats the requirements. There are plenty of drivers more then racing seats that are good enough to drive F1, only a handfull at a given time are good enough to be a champion and it is not hard to find 20 drivers who are good enough to win races if given the right material and a bit of luck.

Being Dutch I have seen the frustration plenty of times of having drivers win championships and then not progressing into F1 where drivers from big countries get into F1 for much less results. Verstappen is one of the few with moderate succes (all though I still think he should have chosen the McLaren path instead of the Benetton path, he now ended up being at the wrong team for any newcomer to the sport, and then having a bad relationship with the (Dutch) press who didn't know anything about F1 so even if he had a mechanical failure wrote a article about how he crashed.) And If Lammers never injured his hand he would have been driving for Ferrari but we also had champions in lots of junior divisions who basicly had to do something else because they reach their top.. not the top of their driving but the top of their budget.

What will happen to James Calado now?

His 3rd driver seat at Force India was taken by Daniel Juncadella.

Gillette? Sony? McLaren Cars? McLaren Mercedes
McLaren MP4-29 – Mercedes PU106A 1.6 V6T (last year of Mercedes partnership; Honda from '15 onwards)

Because Gillette seems to have gone quiet, whereas the Sony angle keeps coming up (although if it is Sony it sounds like they're a possible for Lotus as well).

Charles Pic has signed as Lotus's test and reserve driver.  An expected move, really, and it could pay off if the current unrest in Venezuela escalates.
