Best result of the season!

P3 & P4 in qualifying

P2 & P3 result in the race.

So the 2015 season was better than my wildest expectations. Nine podiums and 3rd in the WDC and Williams' best end-of-season result for better than a decade.

So, what does 2015 have in store for the team?

I hope that Williams manages to build on the platform that they've built this season. They've got engine supplier stability, driver stability and pretty good stability for the technical team. Reliability was excellent this year.

The biggest thing they need to work on is strategy and pitstops. Too many strategic blunders and unambitious or bizarre pit strategies probably cost Williams another two or three podiums this year.

With Mercedes expected to extend their dominance to 2015, I think another low drag, high speed car would be a good idea. The 2015 season has lots of  tracks that favour high speeds - Monza, Spa, Austria, Silverstone, Canada, possibly Mexico - and I think that developing a car that is well optimised for these sorts of circuits could possibly be a way to seize a couple (or more) wins.

Well done to Williams - really happy to see they bounce back.

Would love for them to collect a couple of wins next year.

Fantastic result for Williams and an impressive resurgence.  2013 must look like a distant memory.

Fantastic turnaround this season, and great development through the season as well.

Well done Williams and here is to 2015!

most important now is how they integrate the updated merc power unit.
if you consider the lead time that merc had with the PU to build their car around it, and how close Williams could get at times, it is looking very good for next season!
with a long term engine deal in place, Williams also have stability in their design department to refine the car.
their technical team are looking strong too.
plus the cash for coming third won't hurt!
let's see a couple more sponsors on the car too, please!
Massa is looking stronger each race now so hopefully he continues that upward trend next season!
bottas also has to iron out a few kinks.
pit stops got a lot better, but still too many mistakes! race strategy has seemed awful at times this season. I'm in no position to give a critique on that though, might just be down to the team needing to build up that department or gel the people together that they have added?

realistically, red Bull is going to be stronger next season. Horner's unending bleating not withstanding, they have a very quick chassis and an updated engine will help them the most.
so game on Williams!

Congratulations to Williams from a McLaren fan.

It's difficult to overstate what Williams have achieved this year, and no one would have predicted it.

It's my dream to see McLaren vs Williams at the top again - true racing teams, not marketing exercises.

May you go from strength to strength!

A great season from Williams even though conservative strategies may have cost them from winning a race. Still a way better season that what one could expect after the very poor 2013. Now hoping they can cement themselves to the front end of the grid. My hope for 2015 is some wins and top 4 in the WCC.

My hat is off to this guy. While Bottas and Massa did all the heavy lifting, it was Symonds who gave them the tools to do so. He's bounced back wonderfully from all of that Crashgate nonsense and I'm glad to see his expertise being utilized so well at Williams! He is an excellent successor to cranky ol' Patrick Head.

Funny to think it's not that long ago she was mainly known for doing the Williams podcast. She's been very impressive although she has of course now also got a great team of people behind her too, I really hope they can keep up this momentum.

+1

A very good sign this year was that every update for the car basically worked.

This showed that not only did they know what the car was doing - they understood why, and were able to address it.

Which I think is a bigger deal than most realize.

I think that this is a very positive trend going forward to the 2015 car.

I think that if they do a natural progression on this years car, they have a very good chance of staying at the front and putting up a legit fight for #2 WCC.

Maybe be in a better position to steal a few wins as well.

Ferrari and McLaren have to do all new cars; but they do have more resources...

In my opinion, Red Bull had a great car that was let down by the engine (probably the real #2 car if not for the engine fiasco...), and Newey is in on the 2015 car; So we'll see what Renault can turn up...

It would be nice though if in optimizing around a split turbo, they can make a leap and pull level with Merc.

 Hey, it's nice to dream...

All I hope is that Williams don't repeat their recent pattern of following a better year with a terrible on.

Their points tally has gone:

I'm cautiously optimistic that they won't have such a fall again next year.  There was a lot of transition in those years where they failed to build on the previous year.  2011 was the end of Michael's stint as TD with him resigning early in the year, and at the end of 2012 they had the departure of Mark Gillan and I think a senior aero guy.  Plus, it's the first time since 2009 that they're going into a year with an unchanged driver lineup.

Seems like a good guy and that can only be a good thing for Williams. Does anybody know where Sporting Manager places in the Williams hierarchy? I.e. what's his responsiblities compared to Performance Manager Rob Smedley?

Is it me or does his job description seem rather similar to Semdley's?

Sporting Directors/Managers are responsible for pitstop, garage procedures etc. Not car performance.

I would love to see some more of the Video posted above, Williams/BBC must have loads of footage they didn't use, it's hearing what Bottas and Coulthard say when they are driving these classic F1 cars that is really interesting.

Maybe Smedley will go back to being Massa's race engineer full time?

James Allen explians Sorting Mangare role:

As I indicated, it does not have to do with car performance, development or race engineering., which is Smedley's remit.
