I think I can live with that. I wouldn't call it pretty, but it's not really ugly either. Just strange.

The nasal area isn't too bad actually. Sure, it looks like a condom, but it's better than the stepped noses we've had in recent years.

I actually kinda like the nose of the car, if this is what the other cars will look like as well it has been alot of fuzz about nothing!

The sidepods look really long, especially considering the smaller fueltank

The droopy little condom nose looks ridiculous, but yeah, it's pretty much what was expected so it's not really shocking.

The sidepod inlets are much larger than last year, but we've already heard a lot about the cooling being a challenge this year, so that was to be expected as well. As Rentta said, the backend looks similar to what we've seen from Williams, except for the exhaust location dictated by the new regulations.

So overall, aesthetically, I'll live with it, but the nose is just stupid. It's hilarious how they keep messing up the regulations on this area year after year, but this is such old news right now that it's pointless to get upset about it.

Doesn't look that bad. I bet it will look a whole lot better on the actual car instead of a render.

But I really think this is one of the more sensible solutions. We might see some ridiculous designs on other cars.

I knew these noses were on the way since the first rendering was posted on here last year but knowing in it truly upon us makes me go -

- every time I'm going to see these 'F1 cars' 'till Monaco I guess. Maybe I'm a bit too immature (thank god) but all that my brain registers when I see these noses are in the lexical field of 'suppository', 'limpy condom' and 'disappointment penis'.

Well seeing as the render doesn't have any livery applied, we can only hope that liveries have been designed in a way to limit the visual impact of these condom noses. A simple 'respray' in Photoshop limits the damage from this angle...

I'd be surprised if their actual car look very close to this.

Maybe Williams made and gave away one of generic possibilities for the magazine article.

Exactly. I expect the front wing to be more dramatically inwash or outwash. This one is neither here nor there.

Regardless, they released the image to reveal the nose, not the actual package they'll be racing with. Of course the body will change before the lights go out.

I think it looks OK, but then I'm not usually bothered by aesthetics if the machine is technically brilliant. What does bother me is that so much of a modern F1 car is dictated by the restrictions in the rules, rather than following function and experimental design like F1 cars of the 60s and 70s. So that silly pointy nose is not there because of some clever aerodynamic trick the engineers have thought up, it's there because the rules mandate that it has to be. I don't like *that*.

At least the nose is in line with the exhaust regulation

"ARTICLE 5.8.2: EXHAUST POSITIONING

The new regulations for the 1.6-l..... a single tailpipe of fixed dimensions, which must exit 170-185mm behind the rear axle line and 350-500mm above the floor. With the circular end of the final 150mm of tailpipe having to point upwards at an angle of five degrees, ....."

... just imagine the feeling when hit from the back ...

To allow more hot air to escape from the coolers, Williams has placed louvered outlets behind the driver's head, which is new for an F1 car.

At the rear the signature Williams low-line gearbox philosophy has been dropped to allow space for the turbocharger to be mounted behind the engine and for the exhaust's tail pipe, which exits under a carbon fibre fairing and blows on to a small winglet.

Additionally the rear wing is not placed on pillars. Instead it appears to be mounted to the top of the diffuser, which keeps the rear wing element unobstructed by the mounts.

Lastly the driveshafts are not covered by the lower wishbones, which was the trend last year. It is just about possible to make out a small wing section mounted low down and ahead of the rear wing.

I don't see the outlets behind the driver's head?

Don't think the nose looks as bad as first thought. Have seen worse over the years and is defnitely better than the stepped nose.

Autosport says they will "run in the blue 'heritage' livery throughout pre-season testing." What about the season itself?

Pretty typical for what Williams does most years, then.

Just a question - but how is this sponsorship going to work in places where alcohol is illegal, like Bahrain and Abu Dhabi?

Looks better than I expected, as the main nose and its offshoot are in the same plane. If the team adopts Jamiednm's proposal, then it will hardly be visible at all. I do get the feeling, however, that other teams may have uglier solutions, but it's an improvement on the stepped noses so far.

I thought teams sponsored by alcoholic drink companies had to remove the decals from their cars, at those aforementioned races? I'm sure I can remember Force India having to remove (or at least cover up) the Whyte and Mackay logos when F1 used to race in Turkey, for instance.

But if a team has a title/main sponsor who is an alcoholic drink company, it could be interesting. I may be wrong though.

Some people really need to be reminded that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and just because you find something hideous doesn't mean everyone else will.

For example, I still think the typical 1970s F1 car was way uglier than anything we'll see this year.

Exactly.

If there was any pragmatism - then the FIA would just order the teams to chop their wangs off and be done with it.

That's unlikely to happen so we're left with Gonzo, Alf, John Holmes and friends visually polluting our Sundays.
