Well, this could get interesting (or settled out of court): http://www.racer.com...article/323046/

Didn't the lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Revival get sued when he went solo, for producing songs that sounded too much like CCR? Or something?

John Fogerty...
All the way to the supreeeeme court and bloody Rehnquist presiding as well.
John got screwed out of the 1.3 million lawyers fee even though he won.
I recon Chip had a non-compete clause and will have the right to Bend Bowlby over on this one.

Oh, what fun! Ganassi/Panoz etc now believe that they own the whole delta concept and no-one else can build anything similar? What are the 'trade secrets' that have been stolen? Maybe the secret is the 'future of motorsport' that we were promised the Deltawing would be.

John Fogerty...
Was worried people would think I meant the Toyota Atlantic champion.

This sounds like it s going to be all very straight forward and should be resolved by mutual agreement within a few days.

Exactly this. On a slight tangental note, Gran Turismo 6 is being released later this week, and on the game's initial car list was the Nissan-branded Delta Wing from last year's Le Mans. That car disappeared from the game's promo material and car list a few weeks ago when all this legal stuff started to brew... now at the launch party last night both the Nissan-branded car AND the Panoz-branded silver DW from this year's ALMS season are on the car list. Methinks some progress has been made...
Key things to note as well:
- The Nissan-DW is called 'DeltaWing sponsored by Nissan 2012'
- The Don car is called 'DeltaWing 2013'
Gran Turismo have close ties with Nissan, so would have likely some legal assurance from Nissan's lawyers and Panoz's guys too to have both cars in there side by side.

To quote Don Henley:
"A man with a briefcase can steal more money than any man with a gun"
and
"You cross a lawyer with the godfather baby - make you an offer you can't understand"
(both from "Gimme What You've Got")

This is an excellent write-up by Marshall Pruett
http://www.racer.com...article/323046/
I expect it will be settled out of court with a blankety blank Nissan chequebook and pen but:
Initerestingly Bowlby only had a verbal agreement with Ganassi and never physically signed anything, although it appears that he indicated that he would do so at some point

OT: Why is that article on 7 pages ? /sigh
Reading the article, it seems Panoz/Ganassi are trying to claim IP rights over the contents of Bowlby's brain. Under English law an employee is entitled to take his personal knowledge/experience with him when he leaves a company, but no written/electronic documentation. There's no suggestion that Bowlby took anything but the contents of his brain.
Panoz/Ganassi admit that the Nissan vehicle contains no duplicate parts, so are they just complaining that it looks the same ? I can't see they have a case.

The devil is going to be in the details in this one.
