I've just seen the KX Momentum centrefold in this week's Autosport which publicises a revised KX Akademy roster for this season.

Tordoff and Ant Whorton-Eales have been retained, but Tom Ingram has elected to leave the scheme in order to try and secure a BTCC seat on his own terms (presumably he was in the running for the satellite MG that Marc Hynes will drive).  Daniel Lloyd, Stefan Hodgetts and Rob Boston have all been dropped, to be replaced by Clio Cup racers Ash Hand and Alex Morgan, and Ginetta driver David Pittard.

What's with all the queuing at Autosport to see Rob Austin? You'd think he was a film star or something ;)

Wonder why KX dropped Stefan? Thought he had quite a good season, if a bit up and down. Hope he's something else lined up.

Isn't he the housewife's favourite, the darling of the trackside fans, the plucky underdog?

Like Matt Neal used to be before he sold out and became part of the establishment.

Shows the power of social media and a good PR approach. Austin is the underdog who builds and drives his own car (rear wheel drive as well which appeals to enthusiasts).

ITV4 will broadcast a three-part documentary entitled Touring Car Legends in the near future - the first episode will air at 8pm on Wednesday 5th February.  Here's the trailer.

Big news tonight!  Warren Scott's BMR team has expanded to four cars (apparently in partnership with Tony Gilham), and joining Goff will be Scott, Árón Smith from Motorbase, and none other than Alain Menu, double BTCC champion!

Crikey! And according to autosport: http://www.autosport...t.php/id/112308

"The return of Menu, who has 36 BTCC win to his name, means there will be six series champions on the grid this year. AUTOSPORT understands there is a chance a seventh will be revealed soon."

I would love the seventh to be Gio. Nice to have more proper drivers and less buisnessmen on the grid.

Would be very happy to see either Rydell or Giovanardi back, can't think of any other ex champs that are still racing and not tied down with other contracts (though it would be nice to get Thompson back, surely he's fed up with those bloody Lada's by now).

Given that one of Motorbase's drivers will also apparently be an ex-champion, here's my take:

- Fabrizio Giovanardi: without a drive after Superstars folded.  I have seen rumours linking him to the seat.

- James Thompson: briefly drove for Motorbase in 2011, but currently driving for Lada in the WTCC.

- Colin Turkington: is not yet confirmed to remain at WSR, but would be a surprise to see him switch teams (the other champions on the grid are all confirmed to be staying with their current teams).

- Yvan Muller: driving for Citroen in the WTCC.

- James Kaye: there were some rumours that he would be Scott's "champion driver", as he won the Production Championship in 2002.  Would be a bit of a cheat though. :p

- Rickard Rydell: apparently a free agent last season, so could be looking for a drive.

I think all of the other former champions are effectively retired from this level of competition now, although the way things are going it wouldn't surprise me to see someone like Laurent Aiello or Tim Harvey getting back behind the wheel...

Giovanardi it is!  So with Turkington set to stay with WSR, we have the prospect of Jordan vs Shedden vs Neal vs Plato vs Turkington vs Giovanardi vs Menu for the coming season!

What a lineup we have this year. OK I'm going to start planning my visit to one of the June meetings.

It's always a good sign when former champions want to race in your series. BTCC looks to be getting stronger and stronger atm, you can't deny that. Might even try and get myself down to Oulton Park this season as Gio is one of my favourite drivers.

Woo-hoo! This should be fun. Looks like there's a real buzz about the series this year.

Anyone know how many seats are left available now?

There are 23 confirmed drivers, and a further eight confirmed entries with the driver yet to be announced.  There are also some other teams looking for entries.

Would I be right in thinking this is the strongest grid the BTCC has had since 1999, maybe 98?

If you are just counting ex champs then if Turkington rejoins it is the strongest possibly ever - http://plus.autospor...its-stars-back/

But the field as announced looks so strong it would be hard to discount any of them being at the very least podium contenders if not potential race winners. The big changes to the licence terms certainly seem to have cleared out a lot of the chaff.

Certainly enough to spike my interest again.

I just hope that a classy driver like Gio can get results among what is a pretty classless grid of drivers. The cynical 'push the guy infront past the apex' seems to have become the defacto overtake in BTCC whenever i have seen it over the last few seasons.

And I'm sorry, but the NGTC cars still look and sound abysmal.

Looking forward to this season. Will watch on TV and probably get along to Thruxton plus one other. Driver lineups taking shape nicely too!

I might watch the early rounds – but it needs more than ‘returning heroes’ for my continued enjoyment/ interest. Mainly FWD cars are not my cup of tea.

And whilst Giovanardi is a very good driver – I think people over here over-rate him. Why hasn’t he had regular WTCC/ DTM drives? If he was that good surely they’d have come knocking.

Giovanardi is unlikely to make much difference to that then.  He is just as adept at punting his opponents off as the rest of them.

Can;t wait for the season to start. I love F1 and try to never miss a race, but I don't get the same buzz as I do from BTCC. I;m going to the media day for the first time this season, should be good

Well thats easy to answer, when Alfa pulled out of the WTCC, all the other manufacturers had full rosters of drivers so no space. When his time in the BTCC came to an end with Vaxhall's pull out there wasn't exactly anywhere he could go that didn't require a budget.

I thought it was great the other night. The old footage of the great UK circuits and cars  was brilliant - the hour flew by.
