So I guess the consensus is the full Oulton circuit is a bit of a waste of time:

Any dissent? ;)

I think that's fair. The full circuit is wonderful but it didn't produce great races.

I hope they go back to the short circuit and leave the full course alone for the bikes.

The Fosters Circuit?

There's an idea. The track map looks like Castle Combe.

I liked the idea of using the full Oulton Park, but if it didn't work then it's sensible to go back to the old layout.

I went at the weekend, had hospitality with Team BMR/Jack Goff Racing and camped a mile or so from the track. Top bunch of folks even though I spent little time there, I prefer to be out watching the action around the track. I have a few pictures to share if people are interested.

Great weekend, the whole package is really well setup and despite the dodgy weather it was the best race weekend entertainment Ive ever been too. Constantly something going on on track.

I was keen to see the cars on the shell oils corner and trapsed down there only to find out the spectator area stops at the chicane as Island hairpin. Very dissapointed. I liked the idea of the full track but it didnt work in the end.

Supertourers were my highlight, John Cleland was a hero back in the day and little appeared to have changed. And the sound they make remains incredible. Exactly how I remember it back in the late 90's when I used to go to Donnington twice a year. I watch the second race from the top of the hill before the second chicane and the speed, the sound. Everything.

The current cars are mighty impressive. As was Oulton Park. Great venue IMHO. Watched the F1 race in the bar/cafe in the evening too. Great atmosphere up till Lap 46 or whatever it was.......... LOL!

10/10 for value for money weekend IMHO. Will go again next year.

Cheers. This is all I have uploaded so far. In case my avatar pic doesnt give it away, I have a Cavalier (more than one actually!!!) so seeing them on track again was a bit special.

I don't mind if the full circuit is ditched. It was worth a try using it but it didn't work. But can I make a request of having historic super tourers being on the support package every weekend please? :D

Super Tourers should definitely be a permanent fixture.

I guess certain of the BTCC drivers would prefer the Island circuit as it provides a better opportunity to punt opponents out wide under braking

I love Oulton Park and all it's layouts. I'm a bit disappointed that they want to scrap the International circuit so soon. For me, overtaking has never been easy at Oulton Park, the only way you could overtake at Island hairpin is by barging the other guy out the way as the racing line was always on the inside.

TBH, I was more surprised that nobody was having a go into Lodge corner.

I stood at Lodge for the first race expecting that to be where the action was but moved to the top of the hill down by Knickerbrook for the rest of the day after that because so little happened. That cant be attributed to the full layout being used I dont think so perhaps theres more to it than the track layout.

Well I can understand Matt Neal at least being a little circumspect at Lodge these days :p

It's Croft time this weekend!  There have been fewer developments due to the shorter break between rounds this time, but the main news is that the rear-wheel drive BMWs and Audis will have to run a longer first gear to reduce their starting advantage over the FWD cars, which has caused some controversy.  Last year, this was very much a BMW circuit, and the previous S2000 model also went well year every year.

The weather forecast has improved somewhat since earlier in the week, but rain is still a real possibility.

Will be there this weekend.

Haven't they tried this screwy first gear buggery before? Pretty sure it resulted in a lot of stalled BMW#s with broken clutches.

And no it will not rain. It will be a glorious 30 degrees and the food will be edible and reasonably priced.

A thought - do BTCC days actually sell out? I mean anybody ever get turned away at the gate due to capacity?

Re: 1st gear rule - I never like the way BTCC handicaps cars doing well, I thought the ballast was for that. I was looking forward to WSR trouncing it here and at knockhill. Hopefully they still will.

Yes, in 2010 with the S2000 model, which partly explains why the team was less competitive that season (although Collard and Neate was a definite step down from Turkington and Jelley).

I was at Croft in 2012 - it started off wet in the morning, then the sun came out and I got burnt.  In 2013 I took sun cream and got soaked.  This year I'm staying away (although that's because I'm living on the south coast now)!

Turk on pole with new lap record - atta boy! Looking forward to the rear wheel drivers sticking it to the new gear rule...
There should be some sun. At least no rain forecast now. Getting to the gate for 9. Leave some tickets for me....

Shame Geddie got a black flag in quali - he was easily in the top 10 in free practice and I don't remember him doing that before. Track limits I guess. Must like the circuit.

That starting grid is insane, can the cars stuck around the hairpin even see the start lights? With such a large grid they really need to move it forward for next years race.

Is Lando Norris an alter-ego of Benjamin Button? I'd swear he's getting younger by the race.

Blimey Jason, that was a bit rough....

Gio picks himself again :rotfl:

Incidentally what happens if JP is excluded? Does Giovanardi get pole anyway, or is Goff promoted from 11th to 1st

The camera angles weren't great, but I think the penalty was deserved.

Does anyone else think that Triple Eight will be running a new car next year?  The MG's form has been very disappointing this year; it seems to have reached the limit of its development whereas the Civic Tourers and BMWs are stil improving (plus the Civic Hatchback has always been a better chassis).  I know that it's nominally a works team, but my understanding is that it's largely funded by Plato's personal deal with Tesco and the second seat by KX Momentum, so I don't think changing marques would be too much of an issue.

Ooops, more penalties.  Shedden drops from second to third behind Jackson, Collard and Giovanardi will both start from the back in the first race at Snetterton.

Very entertaining weekend, especially from down at the first chicane where I was, however driving standards need looking at to be fair... Maybe mr gow asked them to go a little mad after oulton park.

That being said, there's always that added spice about a series in which a love-to-hate driver participates. I mean he's sponsored by Tesco of all companies. For that, I secretly like him.
