The E22 is a seriously poor car. I know it was easy to put the blame on the Renault Power Units but that has largely been addressed. The concept was poor. It always amazes me when a designer produces a bad concept since this aspect of design is founded on his thought process validated by aero testing and CFD. Nick Chester is looking more and more like the next Nick Wirth rather than a future Rory Byrne.

It truly is a ghastly machine, but it's unique and it will probably be the future symbol to represent F1's Year of the Phallus.

The asymmetrical solutions all over the car probably keep Newey up at night, but it's myopic to think Chester is a dud. Ferrari's new saviour after all, James Allison, oversaw the FFE failure.

Again another bad performance from the E22 they were over 0.5 seconds from getting into the top 16 which is appalling and Kobayashi was only 0.030 of from Grosjean, their race pace is better but is still not good enough to fight with the Sauber so another torrid race in store for the enstone team.

According to Romain Grosjean, Lotus is no longer developing the E22. Interestingly, Pastor Maldonado told me the exact opposite yesterday. According to him, it is only logical to try and improve the E22. "The regulations for 2015 will be more or less the same, so it'll be the same car. And everything we can improve on it will be to our benefit for 2015." Makes some sense, right?

Seems like Grosjean has just checked out. Maldonado seems to be the one still trying, if you know what I mean.

Kudos to Maldonado for keeping faith in the team. As for Grosjean, he should be happy he's had a good car for two years. If not for Total and Boullier, he wouldn't have been in that Lotus and nobody would talk about Grosjean anymore. He should be happy to have a seat.

These are all just marketing bullshit to serve somehow the sponsors. The E22 is fundamentally a dog and the removal of FRIC system was the last nail in its coffin. All the team members know very well what they have and why they have it. If the design of E22 has fundamental flaws then it is better to turn all of the resources to the development of E23 and forget this year and the E22.

I'm still wondering how this car was able to qualify to P5 in Barcelona...

Maybe Gro has other options outside Lotus, that's why he can say more about the real situation instead of bullshit.

Grosjean's race was pretty blah. Maldonado on a circuit that didn't suit them was 14th which is a lot better than I thought.

What a shocking season for Lotus, fighting with Marussia in the last GP.. I´d love to see that car being competitive again, but can´t see that happening unfortunately. They lost too many important people because of the financial issues. It´s a shame.

Close to the points for both drivers. Don't know what happened to Grosjean after the SC.

Don't know what happened to Grosjean after the SC.

Romain Grosjean
“It was hot out there; things were looking pretty alright until the safety car, we were fighting for points. Unfortunately, I tried to attack too hard on the restart. I wanted to give it everything and with cold soft tyres after a slow safety car period, it was just too much once at the corner. From then on, I couldn't pass back up through the field to get points.”

@EliGP: Mercedes, which was Brawn, and Honda, and BAR, and Tyrrell, will supply engines to Lotus, which was Renault, and Benetton, and Toleman.

Technically... Mercedes AMG HPE, which was Mercedes HPE and Ilmor. Mercedes the race team are not the engine builders. I believe.

Well, if you insist on being technical, it really is Mercedes AMG HPP.  Which was HPE, which was.... (though I think that's what you meant, to be fair to you).   ;)

As a completely side note, while I'm in the thread.  I look forward to seeing this team fighting with the big teams again, hopefully next year.  I never could stand this team or it's drivers for many reasons, but it just isn't the same without them up there, being a thorn in the bigger teams' sides.  With Williams finding their stride again, it could make for some great racing.

Any pics of the new nose on the car? Missed the FP1 and can't find anything.

Another one with slightly clearer angle. A beauty...excited to see the all the 2015 noses in February, great to be back at the low designs.

Looks better than the old nose that's for sure! Quite a severe drop off but one of the better low nose solutions...

Looks much better.

Old version looked like Mandingo and his little brother auditioning for Lotus. :D
