It is that time of year again!

All of the drivers and paddock have gathered in France for the 2013 F1 Gala.  So far I have been informed that:

Robert Kubica won personality of the year

The two Karting champions drove in to the event - engines a roaring...

and

Sebastian Loeb, Sebastian Vettel and Yvan Muller entered the event in a police car, wearing Blues Brothers sunglasses and hats :D

More photos and info at the FIA's twitter:  https://twitter.com/fia

Lots more stuff out there, but I haven't time at the moment - so please feel free to provide more info.

Does Vettel have a girlfriend? I don't remember seeing him with one.. If i was him, I'd be banging chicks left and right.

As far as I know, she rarely comes to races. I seem to remember him saying that he doesn't want a distraction and wants to be focused on racing.

It doesn't change the fact, that he should still bang chicks on left and right  :rotfl:

Does Loeb refuse to wear a tux or something? I admit not following his social calendar but every time I see him at an awards ceremony he doesn't seem to bother.

Whatever the reason, it's a nice change of pace from the likes of Button and Massa who seem to drag their entire extended family from paddock to paddock. :well:

Good for Robert Kubica to be recognized for his determination and perseverance. There was a time when I thought his continued involvement in rallies to be ill-advised, but he seems to be getting to grips with his new sport of choice.

And what was Alonso photographing in that video, the Michelin tyres?

The exhaust exiting inside the wheel well to seal off the kinda-ground-effects floor/diffuser from the wheel wake using hot-blowing?  :drunk:

Fits the rumour of Ferrari building a LMP1.

James Hunt turned up in torn jeans and a T-shirt in his championship year IIRC.  Makes Loeb look pretty smart in comparison!  Maybe if you are a good enough driver, you can flout dress codes.

Why not - who knows! :p I doubt Alonso would be able to uncover anything we don't already know with a phone-camera under those lighting conditions. ;)

According to him, he wants to keep her and others out of the spotlight. He isn't someone that wants all the media hype around him, that's why he lives on the countryside of switzerland. Also he said something along the lines of "You wouldn't take your girlfriend and family to your work, would you?". He has more character than most think.

Okay. I was trying to understand why Kubica got an award. He crashes every time he gets behind the wheel.

Perhaps this is how he won WRC2.

7 WRC2 rounds. 7 finishes. 5 wins. 1 2nd place.  Seems someone have problem with itself.

There's plenty of countryside in Germany... and taxes, of course, there's always that. ;) But anyway, glad to see he's being mature about it. I don't blame guys like Massa and Button for wanting their family members around, though it does strike me as odd, but I really hope that in 2014 the TV directors will move beyond showing us the father, the mother, the sister and brother, the girlfriend, the new (blonde) girlfriend, the baby, the guest, the local B-list celebrity friend, and focus on the actual F1 cars instead. Even if they have that ugly nose some are predicting.

Also, to McNish for his outfit.

Just note that here on Autosport forum rallies were seldom talked about before he begun doing rallies.

Not that I can confirm whether or not that is true or not (since I don't care for rallying), but since this is mainly a F1 targeted forum with - as sad as it is - only minor fanbase on other genres*, it should come as a no surprise that people get interested about something that involves an ex F1 driver...

* as there are more suitable places for discussing those

Actually it was far more intense when Kimi was dabbling in rallying - we had the whole brigade of Kimi fans suddenly becoming rally experts.  And before that, we used to generally have a separate thread for each WRC round.

No worries, I like Kubica -- I wish he was driving the Ferrari. I haven't followed rallying seriously since the 80's and I have no idea what WRC2 is.

It's a support series to WRC. Kinda like GP2 is to F1.

So for your information, Kubica won WRC2 this year.
