When will Bernie realise that the points system makes no difference to if people can win races or not.

And it's a slippy slope once you do this because other races such as Monaco will start to demand bigger points allocations too.

I hope someone investigates whether the holder of the last race offered money for this rule change.

Even NASCAR wouldn't do something this dumb. The last race of the year is run no differently than the first, second, or ninth event. The cars are the same and all the competitors are at every round. Points are points.

That's just asking for someone to be 51 points ahead before Abu Dhabi.

Just imagine the arguments on here when a driver wins the championship thanks to double points but wouldn't have won with normal points.

I am cynical if this is true

This is clearly a ploy to increase the chances of the WDC title being alive by the last race of the season.

edit: okay its official  ):, not a fan

Putting my sensible hat on, it's not really that big a deal is it? Points systems are always somewhat arbitrary and I don't think it'll change my level of enjoyment of the sport at all.

We must as soon as possible do some sort of petition and send it to the FIA.

Because there's no reason to do it. Racing is different from other sports in that you don't need a playoff system or championship game. Everyone gets to compete against everyone else, at the same time, all year long.

I hope they at least get double prize money for the last race.

If someone has raced an amazing season and accumulated 49 points more than the next driver with 1 race to go and he doesn't take the championship it would be a travesty.

Oh god, it is offical then. What the hell.

The 5 second penalty sounds good though. Maybe one thread for all rule changes?

This is bad. Barely any race deserves double points, let alone Abu Dhabi.

Good luck with that. FIA alone can't do ANYTHING. Both Strategy Group and F1 Commission consist of FIA, FOM and the teams.

Isn't it always? I don't think it's the right way to go about it, but it's hardly the end of the world.

I know it's fashionable act like every poor decision made in F1 is destroying the sport, but I really don't see how this has any major effect.

I presume the final race will be an old school Grande Epreuve distance to make the points make sense???  Thought not...

Why not have the tv audience vote online as to how many points the drivers receive, based on how **** the race was, that would make more sense than this contrived crap!

Has anyone ever lost the championship going into the last race 1 win - 1 point in the lead? It's not very likely.

I despair I really do!

A few points I've copied and pasted out of my Twitter through sheer laziness:

I would actually agree that a race at Abu Dahbi should be awarded Half Points...

If they do insist on this Double Points nonsense then the last race has to be at a circuit fitting of double points i.e. Interlagos.

This just seems to be trivialising F1 though. As if things hadn't been getting artificial enough.

Why do the FIA always ignore the fans ? They should know already that WE DON'T LIKE ARTIFICIAL. We're supposed to be going back to where we afre but instead we  are going further away from it with even more artificial BS.

A race win is a race win. Should allways be worth the same to every compeditor. This distorts that.

Fourth place at Abu Ahabi rewards 24 points. One less than a win anywhere else. *!#%#!"%#%"#¤#&%¤&¤%&"#¤%"#¤&

I agree with that. I just don't see why awarding double points at the last race incites so much anger round here.

@EliGP: Maybe they can do quadruple points in 2015 to make it even more "exciting"

@EliGP: Abu Dhabi moved to final race of the year. Final race of the year gets double points. How convenient.

@EliGP: When asked if double points also meant double prize money, Jean Todt said: "LOL."

Ah, I love you, Pablo.

If a circuit has a greater overall championship value then all the other circuits really need to be looking at the fee they are paying Bernie to host a championship round of lesser value.

Ok my interest in F1 will last to the second race, when I have seen the cars, heard the engines and can tell who did an good job for 2014, I no longer need to watch the races.

I really start to ask myself wether i watch F1 or not next year. I was going to accept DRS and "the tyres" because they spiced up the races, but now they went too far... If this rumour turns out to be true... This is not the F1 i learned to love

How ridiculous. They fail to see the disadvantages - any bad luck or mechanical issues are effectively doubled in that race. Someone could be in third position the entire season, fluke a rainy win in the last round and win the championship. Imagine the backlash. Even he would feel bad.
