Grosjean became a better driver when he became a dad - not sure if the same applies to Vettel. Given his dominance, I sure hope not!

well, the hungarian article where I read it first, also mentions that Vettel recently called her as his fiancée, so presumably a wedding is on its way too.

I've heard once that drivers loose some speed when they have children, hopefully it's true to give a better chance for the competition!  :rotfl:

but congratulations to the couple!

Congratulations to the happy couple! :)

Just a few weeks ago there was a thread on how Massa was the only father among the F1 drivers...since then he has been joined by Grosjean and Maldonado, and now Vettel. They are breeding like rabbits! Who will be next I wonder? :drunk:

According to Blick when Vettel met Emerson Fittipaldi before the Brazilian grand prix, he asked an unusual question,

"How many children do you have?" Fittipaldi laughed, "There are seven now."

No wonder he was interested in that topic.  :D

Finally... some daylight on the horizon.

As is well known in racing circles... Having a child adds .75 second to your lap time.

Better than any of these faux measures the FIA comes up with isn't it  !!!!

Congratulations to the happy couple.

Congrats to Seb!!

He's in a tough prefession to be a Dad though. Every moment is precious in the early months of a baby and with his work-load they will either have to travel with him or he will miss them like hell. Schumacher said it was tough being away from the family while he was racing I seem to remember. Good on him though, having a child will be better than winning a World Championship that's for sure. :)

I suppose this will be the first of four (and counting) then!

You never know. Unless he feels having a son or daughter counts as better than all four! :)

AFAIK her name is Hanna Claire Sprater (although you'll find as many sources for Prater), and her mother is English.

I personally find the early months the most tedious. After the first year they develop their own personality more and become much more interesting. So maybe 2015 he would miss them more.

Such a stage at his career and life, everything is at his feet, and he chose to spoil it with a child? I wonder why people so desparately try to copy-paste themselves into this crying and demanding creature? I thought Vettel was a smart guy.

Gee he's young, I thought he was playing the field a little but seems he was not. I am sure "the help" will ensure he is not going to have to endure what most fathers do. The first 6 months is brutal.

You clearly have diffrent values then most people. I can garantie that he and most other would trade their WDC's for a child if they couldn't have both. Having a child is above all else for most.

I find that rather sad and most people I see who say this have little else going on for them.

No offense, but I have always found the idea that procreating is somehow special or an achievement hilarious.

My daughter is 12 now. She is the dearest person. But every year I think: 'When is this proposed easy phase in parenting finally starting?'

Stick to topic please. Its about Seb and Hanna going on to become parents and what effect this might have on Seb's racing career.

On the plus side for Seb, Christian has just become a dad very recently so will only be a few months in front to give on some handy pointers.

Good news for Seb

This is neither the time nor place, but I wonder if becoming a father will affect his desire to go on year after year in F1, especially when he's achieved so much already. I remember Webber saying he thought Vettel might walk away from F1 relatively young, perhaps he'll be proven right.

He said he might like to try rally or some other 4 wheel series, so it is possible.   While fatherhood affects everyone differently, many drivers are dads (multiple times) and it doesn't change appear to affect their outlook on racing in as far as participating (see Schumi - may championships post fatherhood).  I still think Seb will race for Ferrari before moving on based on things he's said over the years...but who knows.

Her father's name is Norbert Sprater and her mother's name is Sarah Sprater so I think I'll stick with that.
