Well Sordo's moment of glory didn't last long. Also, Kubica stopped - anyone up for repeating the good old and incredibly tiring debate we've been having every rally, eh? (provided it's not a mechanical)

I hope the reason Kubica has stopped is because it's mechanical not driver error. Also looks like something has happened to elfyn evans.

Apparently Kubica's wheel is off after hitting a rock and Evans went off the road.

So that'll be 9 crashes in 9 complete (or not in his case) days rallying....

Theres been 2 recce accidents too!

 

I hope Lotos have plenty of money to keep paying for this

Normally one could argue that hitting a rock is often bad luck.But I won't..

Only one recce crash? It wasn't him that crashed in Portugal.

And 9 'cannot continue' crashes in 5 rallies. Ouch.

The word is that the car wasn't damaged but it was stuck. And that he rejoined but had problems with the engine and won't continue.

Tanak crashed, blocking the road. Shame, he was doing very well.

 

Kubica couldn't restart the engine due to a starter engine failure.

Well he said that the car had massive understeer into the right corners. He doesn't know it if were the tires or some problem with the steering (he said that before the stage something wasn't right with it). He said it didn't change much. They were going in a very calm way, but he misheard a pacenote (he though it was a five, but it was a three). They almost managed to immediately return on the road (half of it was already there), but the revs dropped too much and he couldn't downshift. They they slid more and the clutch gave up when they were trying to return to the road.

 

Also: "Right now I am going through a difficult period of my life, even though I've had worse times. I think I must somehow reset myself and try to approach rallies the way I did at the very beginning, twelve months ago. I really hope we will have a much better Rally of Argentina."

 

End of rally for Kubica, anyway. I hope that Hirvonen will manage to get a podium finish.

And what the hell is this row between the teams and the promoters?  I sometimes think that the WRC has a death wish or something.  :well:

Three Norwegians in the top six.  Has that ever happened before at this level of the sport?

Sweden 2011. 1st, 3rd and 5th. Østberg, Petter and Henning. Then with Eyvind Brynildsen in a S2000 Skoda on 8th as well after Day 1. Henning retired on the first stage on day 2.

GB 2011 as well, after day 2, Mads, Petter and Henning, 3rd, 4th and 5th :) Petter retired with mechanical problems on the first stage of Day 3.

There might be other occasions in 2011 as well. That was the last time we had three drivers in fairly good equipment running :)

:lol: Nah, Kubica's crashes aren't high speed. Novikov's co-drivers had it worse :p

Good for Norway then! Strange how Sweden has declined over the years but Norway has gone from strength to strength since the rally ban was overthrown.

Not sure how to look at it though. Andreas was not exactly fast in Portugal, his swap from Ola Fløene to Mikko Markkula is a swap that won't work out as well. Andreas and Ola had worked so closely over such a long time, not to mention that they suffered through the accident that killed 10 year old Elise.

They fine-tuned an almost overly complicated pacenote-system, that contained extremely much information. This due to Ola's ability to speak extremely fast and clearly, while keeping an extreme calmness. He is, without any doubt, one of the best co-drivers there is, also shown on Pontus Tidemand these days.

However, Andreas have now gone from a complicated, extremely detailed pace-note system, with a clear, calm voice. To a co-driver who doesn't speak english that good, who sorta mumbles with the english words, and struggles to read fast enough, so they take out more and more information from the notes, for Markkula to be able to keep up. This is causing quite big problems for him.

 

At the same time Henning Solberg drove one gravel for his first time since Rally GB in 2011, and ended up 5th. Of course this shows that Henning is a very good driver, who might've lost his big shot due to the politics, and A, B, C-teams when he was at his best.
But it also shows that even with new, up & coming drivers, the level might not be too high at the moment.

 

And with the risk of sounding like a person who hypes up drivers from his own nation... If Petter Solberg and Anders Grøndal had done a season in WRC as well, this would been quite red,white and blue ^^,

 

Oh, and Ola Fløene, does actually have a severe dyslexia condition!
