Maybe that's only me, but... Doesn't this Hyundai look a bit heavy?

I have some similiar feeling. When I am looking on hyundai test and then on Meeke test in Ds3 it looks a bit like this Hyundai is slow accelerating from corners... I don't know

Heavy, are the road conditions.

edit:

IT has been confirmed, apparently, that Robert couldn't rally for Citroen due to sponsorship issues (Lotos vs Total).

Not a surprise really.
He has lots of money.
Citroen don't.
Perfect match.

No, he doesn't have the money anymore. That's the reason he doesn't have a full-season deal.

I reckon Novikov is symptomatic of what is wrong with rallying now.  He is simply too young to be in the WRC.  He did little basic level rallying in which to learn his trade before he went to WRC, so he has made all his novice mistakes in full view of everyone.  Once a young driver would do some local rallies for a year or so, then maybe a regional championship, then his national championship, then move into one of the premier national championships (the British Open, the Finnish, Belgian, French or Italian for instance) whilst perhaps dipping a toe into the WRC ocean by doing his home round.  Having then established a reputation, and learnt hsi trade, he would be ready for a serious assault on the WRC.  This is how McRae and Vatanen and Munari and Sainz (etc etc) made their way to the top.

Evgeny is simply too young.

But he will grow out of it....

That's a fair point - they also jump into WRCars straight away. No working their way up from little FWD cars to full blown WRCars.
Saying that, Elfyn started in a 1.0L Micra, then a Fiesta ST...and upwards; and has spent about 5-6 years working his way up - the way it used to be.
Rallying is different to racing as experience is King; knowledge of events and pace notes require time.

Maybe not in Monte Carlo, though -

The only rally feature I´ve bothered to watch from telly this year has nothing to do with WRC etc.

Actor Idris Elba continues his exploration of how cars and culture have been influenced by the desire for speed.

Idris examines the history of the rallying Mini and gets to grips with the combination of technology and skill involved in driving at a professional level.

..

Idris then fulfils a personal ambition as he gets behind the wheel of a full-spec rally car and takes on a genuine Finnish rally course.

Stringer Be.. Elba and Ari Vatanen butt-naked in a hot tub after days of rally driving. Ordinary day in Finland.

Hell yeah, Janner Rally is only a week away. Even starting before the Dakar.

First main (I guess) motorsport event of the new year for me. Can't wait for Monte. And yeah, congrats to Wilson and M-Sport for the sponsor.

That car looks a bit too understeery.  Needs some sorting, but that's what testing is for.

It doesn't look very understeery on that video and at least two times it's tail happy on the brakes :)

Robert said that it was his first experience with the RRC Fiesta and that "the feeling is good". He seems to be quite happy with the car. He also said that they've made some changes to the setup, but due to the conditions not much can be done.

Man Kajetanowicz looks fast on some of those shots :)

I hope he will do more ERC rounds.

Its interesting that M-Sport provided Robert RRC car instead of R5.

Pitty there wont be Kopecky and Bouffier.

Because RRC is the same base car as WRC model, so he can spend more time in practicaly the same car

Roberts RRC is old one.

it is only front side body from R5 in Fiesta WRC, so it is just little diffrence.

Janner is only for training as Robert said, not for the result

Even though I hate the livery, it looks nice in motion and with snow near the road:

Very close fight in Janner today :)

After 8 stages top3 is separated by 3.4s.

Pitty about Kajetans car failure. He was doing great job.

Anyone following the last stages at the Janner? Kubica lost the lead after being given a 10 second time penalty for jumping the start at SS12 and he went very safe on the fog hit SS15. So right now the gap between Pech and Kubica is 11.8 but if you guys remember, last year the gap at the front going into the last stage was 10.5 between Bouffier and Kopecky and Kopecky snatched it by 0.5 so it is doable.

As with last year, I really like this event. Keeps the blood flowin' through the raceless winter months.

I think Pech has this wrapped up, but as you say anything can happen in this rally. I hope they both keep it on the road, they've both driven very strong rallies.

Edit: And Kubica wins! What a great stage from him, miles ahead of everyone else just when he needed it. Commiserations to Pech - he simply made the wrong tyre choice for that final stage.

He took the winter tires while the others took the slicks. Wins it by 19.9 seconds from a 11.8 deficit. Great job. Can't wait to see what he does at Monte.

Great drives all round. And Kubica, really ... I would like to see his on-board from the last stage. Pity for Kajtek, he was doing great as well until that failure.

But after time penalty when Robert was about 12 seconds off before last stage i thought its over.

It wasn't that special to drive with different tyres. while it's not happening as often as 4 tyres that are the same, it is far from uncommon in these kind of rallies - as shown by the number of drivers that took this choice today.

Now, last year, Kubica was impressive - I still stand on my view of quite low standards in the WRC 2 class, but he did way better than expected. This year, at least in this rally, it was more expectations, and with a car that is better than the S2000's. He did what he "should", and that's a good thing !

As far as I;m concerned, he did more then expected. I mean he didn't even test on studded tires once, he drove for the first time during the shakedown. Plus a new car, co-pilot. I expected him to be fast, but also to commit some mistakes. And he won with a sensible lead despite a puncture and a penalty. Not that I didn't think it was possible :)

Shame for Kajto.

Domi wrote about crossed studded and winter tires - did Robert really drove on a crossed setup (for example studs FL, RR, winter FR, RL) or was it a more conventionalstuds on the front, winter on the rear?

The crossed setup, isn't that unique anymore either. Was done during the live IRC Monaco stages, and also done in the WRC on multiple occasions. I would very much think that Kubica did a crossed setup. I'd be more surprised if he didn't to be honest! :)

He used crossed setup indeed. Initialy, on the liason, he tried studs front, regular rear - or other way around. Then he switched to crossed setup, and took out as many studs during the liason as possible (or at least thats what I've read)

I know, it has become quite popular two seasons ago (I guess?). But I'm surprised he tried it. On other hand, why not, it's "experience" :)

Onboard from the last stage, when one of the lights on Robert's car went loose and was blinding him. Robert said that it broke his concentration heavily (he called it a "blackout") when he was trying to switch in off and they had a major moment. He wasn't able to switch it off because "the steering wheel is new to him and he couldn't find the right button".

He also said in the interview that winter tires without studs were the best choice, but he only had two. Pech has used all of them before that, so he had chosen to go on slicks.

Gronholm was apparently very surprised that they've managed to drive that fast with studs.
