Its a bit of a leap but I would LOVE to see Alonso back in a McLaren.

They should have backed him over Hamilton in 2007. Forget this seasons car, thats McLarens biggest cock up of the last 10 years.

Why do you feel the need to bring lewis into this, we get you hate his guts . Moving on topic it seems like a a overreaction just like when nando tweeted the mclaren car and people lost there flipping minds.

 Let it go man

E.J has stated for months that he is convinced that Alonso will go back to McLaren, given his hit rate lately, I believe it will happen.

As I gave stated elsewhere with the Honda engines coming for 2015, it could be a gamble worth taking if Ferrari do not get closer to the RB or whoever next year. With time running out for Alonso, he might gamble with the more radical thinking team.

I actually hope he does.

All signs point to Alonso fleeing Ferrari to re-join Macca.  The foremost reason being that Kimi has re-joined a former team, and Alonso has been following his path for years now... :p  On a more serious note, it would likely be a good move if things don't pick up at Ferrari.

Are you kidding?  You don't ignore that caliber of talent when it hits F1 - or any sport for that matter.  Lewis was given a top car and expected to do okay, but instead, he made everyone's eyes pop clean out of their sockets.

I understand there was a double world champion in the other seat, and under normal circumstances, he'd get at least some priority over his teammate.  But the circumstances were far from normal.  Drivers of Hamilton's caliber come around once in a blue moon and it was an absolute no-brainer that a team like McLaren would facilitate him finding his potential.  We got Vettel soon after and people got spoiled thinking any youngster in a top car would readily bloom.  But Heikki, Romain, Checo, Bruno, Viktor, and more, have shown us that driver "bloom rates" vary.  So you can't let the 'Hamilton/Vettel convergence on F1' flummox your memory - Macca did what they had to do in 2007.

The above however, is why Macca would not hold any grudges against Alonso - spygate and all - because as I said, normally, a double world champion would be more protectively coveted by a team - especially against a newbie teammate.  Macca was instead leaning in Hamilton's direction - and you can't blame them for that because Lewis was very special - but it was still a Macca muck up for Alonso.  I'd imagine they would like to have the opportunity to make it up to him.

Alonso shouldn't probably threatened Ron Dennis by going public and going to FIA with the Ferrarigate information Alonso was part of and had in his possession ... one of many stupid moves by Alonso that year.

Backing Alonso? He could have just raced for it like everyone else... I'd say taht season equally is Alonsos biggest cock up for the last 10 years. He made a mess of that situation and how to handle being challenged by Hamilton.

Alonso never threatened Dennis with going public, just with going to FIA. And I agree it was a mistake, a mistake for which Alonso apologised within half an hour, according to Dennis himself. The real problem was that by then Dennis had already called Mosley. So let's get things right here, it wasn't Alonso who put FIA on the track of those emails, it was Dennis himself.

Which, by the way, I never understood. If you don't believe Alonso there is no need to call Mosley; if you think there can be some truth on that, you first call the lawyers that have been helping ypu with the first Spygate hearing; and in any case, you start by calling your IT guys and ordering them to review every single Alonso email which contains the words "Ferrari" or "Coughlan", for example! And on top of all this, you know that Mosley is not looking down on you with particularly kind eyes...

That call from Dennis is what I find most difficult to understand of the whole Spygate saga.

Mistake? It was tantamount to blackmailing your employer with your own transgressions. If Alonso was not an exceptionally good F1 driver, his career would have been over right there and then.

This thread has run it's course, when the discussion turns to "Ferrarigate" and 2007 it's too far off the rails.
