IMHO, any driver that doesn't believe they're the best has no place in F1. There obviously comes a point where you are beaten by a team mate so much that you have to admit that he is better than you, but you have to at least believe that you are the second best. Look at Eddie Irvine. He has stated that he could have beaten any driver throughout his career if Michael wasn't around. He firmly believed he was the best, but being teamed up with Michael kicked that out of him, but he still believes that he was the best of the rest. I am sure that Massa and Fisi thought that about Alonso too.
How Many Drivers Believe They're the Best?

I think it should be normal that all drivers think they could win without the factor car.
It's just a problem if it turns into pur arrogance like Senna who was mortally offended if some of the mid and low tier drivers thought they could race against him.

Silly question really. you don't go in to F1 thinking oh well I might be good enough. or at least I'm better than that guy. No you believe your the best or you wouldn't enter the competition.
Do you think Danil Kvyat thinks he's the best?!
How delusional are you?

Berger said in his autobiography that when he raced Senna at McLaren, over time he had to accept that there was simply no way for him to be as good.

It's a fairly recent thing in F1 to have a poll amongst the drivers towards the end of the year asking them all who they think the best driver is.Alonso has won this poll more times than I can remember and I've never heard any driver vote for himself unfortunately. They just don't want to come across as an arrogant knob but I'd say atleast half the feild believe they are the best and the other half beleive they CAN be the best if they train more, simulate more, set up better, drive that little bit better or just plainly land themselves into a top team.
