Don't worry, this isn't another 'who was better thread', in fact, I'm speaking to the people who didn't like on/the other/both and/or McLaren.

Today's F1 fans complain about Red Bull dominance and ten years ago we were all bemoaning Ferrari doing the same. There is a lot of nostalgia for the days of Alain and Ayrton but were those there at the time actually as enthusiastic?

Yes, absolutely.

1st of all, reliability. You never knew when the engines would blow up, which was quite normal.

2nd, they were actually racing each other (and driving!! :p) and you had the best 2 drivers on the best 2 cars. Not like today or on the MS era where Mark can't scratch Seb, and Barrichello actually worked FOR Schumy.

I see your point, but it's been nothing like those days for a while.

It was boooooring.

It started getting boring in 1984, with the Lauda-Prost dominance coming after two fantastic years of extreme uncertainty in 1982 and 1983; it got worse thereafter with Senna-Prost. At least, at the time there was the Williams variable and some technical variety to keep interest awake; things really got good again in 1989 with the return of many different NA engines and new car shapes, to fade away gradually to the unfathomable bore of present days.
