Translation? Critical or precautionary hospitalization?
The Google translation is not the best:
"The seven time world champion Formula 1 suffered a head injury.

The Google translation is not the best:
"The seven time world champion Formula 1 suffered a head injury.
INFO E1 - Michael Schumacher, the seven time world champion in Formula 1, was seriously injured Sunday morning skiing in Meribel (Savoie), according to information gathered by Europe 1. He dropped himself according to preliminary and was transported to the hospital, suffered a head injury."
I think "he fell" is probably more accurate than "he dropped himself"

Oh my gosh, how awful. I hope he gets well soon.

I hope that report Viiryfan posted is correct, because it's all over Twitter at the moment, saying Schumacher has been "seriously injured."

Excellent. Hope he is back on his feet in no time at all.
Wishing you a speedy recovery champ!

I usually wait a while for these reports to be sorted out. I've read too many reports of people being OK only for their injuries turn out to be far more severe in later reports.
I hope it is nothing more than a painful knock to the head.

I did a quick translation of the article:
"Schumacher suffers a serious ski accident
The 7-time Formula One world champion was seriously hurt Sunday morning whilst skiing in Méribel (Savoie), according to information gathered by Europe 1. He fell on his own according to initial information and has been transported to hospital, suffering from a head trauma. The prognosis isn’t yet known. He has been taken to hospital in Moûtiers."
I hope he is okay. It would be sad for something like this to happen, especially when it's the time (in his life and of the year) he should be spending happily with his family.

He did, and that might have saved his life:
Gernignon Christophe Lecomte, director of the Méribel, told RMC Sport microphone that the injury of Michael Schumacher on Sunday was not very serious. "He dropped to 11:07, off-piste at Meribel. He was wearing a helmet and banged against a rock, he said. Relief responded quickly, at 11:15. He was airlifted and taken to hospital in Moutiers. He was shocked, a little shaken but conscious. It may be a head injury but it is not very serious. "

That is terrible. Hopefully not as serious as we all fear from reading initial reports. Just shows how dangerous skiing can be.

Twitter and rolling news at its worst, full of conflicting speculation and hysteria.
Posted 29 December 2013 - 13:09
This reminds me of the speculation over Robert Kubica's accident; lots of different reports of severity, no real information until later. In this case those it seems all should be OK, sadly news outlets go for the worst case scenario as more serious headlines get more clicks.

I think it will be a few hours before we know how he is.

Edit - Confirmed: just a mild concussion.
Get well soon, Michael.

Oh Gosh... First bike, and then this. For the love of god, think of your children, Schumacher. Take it easy, man.

Hate the first headlines i read.
Great that he is ok.
He should just stick to F1.
Posted 29 December 2013 - 13:20
I guess he will never stop being adrenalin junkie.
Happy he is OK
Posted 29 December 2013 - 13:22
Mods should change the headline of the topic. It has given me a quasi heart attack when I first read it.

He was Skiing, you don't have to be a 7-times F1 champ to do that. Many people partake, if he hit his head n a diving board in a swimming pool surely it wont make any difference what he did previously in life?

Well, among flashes of the old flair, he frequently looked like an accident waiting to happen there too (and a few strange looking accidents did happen to him in his comeback years).
Glad he's apparently okay.

Ah, my bad then. And good he did, i have a helmet on my shelf that is almost split in half after a skiing-accident, saved my life aswell.

Exactly - he was shaken, but fully conscious. Wearing a helmet - he fell down some metres and was driving alone.
Posted 29 December 2013 - 13:37
I'm glad the situation is not as bad as it seemed at the beginning.
My best wishes to Schumi and his family!

According to FAZ he was accompanied by his son.
Hope it's really not serious.

He was skiing off-track at Méribel, he wore a helmet, and had an "close encounter with a rock". He was slightly disoriented and fuzzy(concussion), and transported to hospital by air(helicopter). He was conscious throughout the time. Don't think its anything too serious tbh.

That Helmet probably saved him from a serious injury.
