Saw it come up on Sky Sports News, ran to the computer in a panic but thankfully the reports coming from France aren't as bad as what I thought they were going to be.

The duty manager at the hospital told Sky News that Schumacher had been admitted and is undergoing a scan.

He said he had no further information and that ''his injuries are being examined at the moment''.

Christophe Gernigon-Lecomte, director-general of Meribel ski resort, told radio station RMC: "He was transferred by helicopter to a hospital in Grenoble.

"At the moment I am unaware of the gravity of his injury. The police are in the process of investigating the cause of the fall.

All this wishy-washy crap about staying safe, shouldn't be (insert popular sporting activity which is ok for anyone else to do),  don't do this, don't do that; what the hell business is it of ours? If the man wants to ski backwards down an Olympic downhill course, blindfolded and with a jet pack on his back, who are any of us to tell him he shouldn't?

Go for it Mick! Glad to hear that you're doing ok, but don't stop living - on the edge sometimes if that's how you like it - because anything else is just existing and anybody can do that.

I'm glad that Schumi's injuries don't seem to be as serious as reported at first. However, one never knows with head injuries...I can't stop thinking about Natasha Richardson and Mark Donohue. Best wishes to Michael for a speedy recovery!

The helmet did save Michael. I am sure of that. Get well Michael and feel better soon.

Never a fan, but I wish him a speedy recovery.

The law of averages says "if you play hard, sometimes you fall hard". Get well soon.

Perhaps a concussion would be regarded as serious but not life threatening.

Responsible media only report based on the information they have, which can change rapidly in the early moments. That's just the nature of news. They still have to report what they know at the time, understanding the situation is fluid and will continue to develop.

Have no idea how fast Schumacher was going when he hit that rock. Was he airborne? Diid the helmet absorb the full strike? He'll need to be properly evaluated before we can truly have a sense of how minimal or serious his condition is.

I hope he's ok.

BILD says seriously injured, but not life-threatening. Skiing outside the track and crashed against a rock

Ironically they are just showing him in that Asterix movie on TV. Get well soon!

Hope he gets well soon.

A bit bizarre for me, as after not hearing anything about him for a long while, just yesterday I saw a documentary in youtube in which he was skiing during his early Ferrari days.

SOunds to me like he's a bit more than just shaken, according to CNN's report and interview of thsoe who first responded to him:

"A spokesman for the first-aid responders in Meribel -- who asked not to be named as a matter of protocol -- confirmed that Schumacher was wearing a helmet, but said he had suffered "a relatively bad head injury".

Pretty much.

Modern medicine gets worried about concussions because of the rare chance they can lead to bigger problems.
But a rare chance is luckily only a rare chance, and thankfully he should be fine.

It's sad the F1 media, in their desperation for a big story to report on in the off-season, is trying to make it seem as bad as they can get away with.

Bild said he has been transfered to another hospital and injuries were more serious than orginally thought, there will be press conference later today.

I guess it was just a precaution to change to a five star hospital. They ordered also a neurosurgeon from Paris. I think just for assesment. With a billion in your bankaccount you surely can afford to triplecheck.

I do not think this is about money. It is logical he will not wait if he is able to recover himself. I hope the injuries are not like Maria de Villota's

it is about having money, you can afford better doctors cause you can pay them, even if you only have a scratch they will come if you pay.

I think the point is that having money is not proof of additional measures only being precautionary and it is pure speculation at this point to suggest that they are.

of course not, I just wanted to calm down the sensationalists a bit, the Prof. callled in is the same guy who treated him in 1999

In this case no news may be good news. If he has suffered concussion he will likely be kept in hospital for 24 hours for observation.

Awful news. :(

I've also heard about Intracranial hemorrhage being the issue, but it's not an official source.

That would require immediate surgery. We would have heard probably something by now if it was that serious. Hopefully it's not.

Just saw a statement on TV by a French doctor (?) saying that his condition has deteriorated and is potentially life threatening

I did not see the whole thing, i just caught the tail end of it so do not assume it is 100% accurate
