Reminds me of a list I compiled of strange bugs in F1GP back in the day:

Hmm, looks like the interest in this game is plummeting. I'll leave a couple of vids I got togethe about setups. The first explains a quick way to tune any car for an event or organized race.

The second adresses some problems in the Formula A default setup, both fwith FFB settings and car setup.

I have to disagree with you.

Being playing GT3, GT4, GT5, GT6 and Forza 4 - Project Cars outsmarts them in almost every level. Sure there was big bugs and still minor bugs, but motorsport racing is very good in it.

I cannot say a word for PC simulators and how Project Cars compares with rivals, since I have never had computer which would fluently run even one of big names. I also have better investment targets than 2000€ computers...

Yeah, I'm pretty content with Project Cars as well. It draws a nice line between casual racing game and serious sim, and definitely leans towards the latter much, much more than the games Kanisteri mentioned. I don't think I'd be able to go back to the likes of, say, Gran Turismo after playing Project Cars. It just feels like everything better, and it's a game that proves you don't need upwards of one thousand playable cars in it to be very deep.

The thing is you guys all seem to be console users, in which case the game was DESIGNED for you.

If you have played proper sims on a PC then this just feels tacky, unfinished and poor. Which is exactly what it is sadly.

What's so bad if game is DESIGNED for me? I rather pick that over the one which is designed for somebody else.

I bought my PS4 last year for 400 euros and it came with one game. With that money I hardly would get working "grandma-PC" from cheap retailer.

If I don't drop my PS4 on floor, it will work just fine in 2025. I cannot say same about your PC.

My PC has lasted me perfectly well for abut 5 years. Cost me 400 quid and can play anything!

And in a far more immersive way than any console really can without having to buy a seat and rig type deal as you would with a PS4 and a wheel.

People are for some reason scared of buying PC's, you do not need a hugely powerful PC to play any racing games, I have played Iracing, RF2, and other games like Skyrim, Metro last light, all good quality graphically and never had any issues.

My PC cost £500 not including monitor, I built it myself from components, its six years old and can't run rF2 let alone pCARS.  If you can make a PC for £400 that will still run sims like pCARs five years later you should go into business.  Windows costs £75 so that only leaves you £325 for components.

pCARs was designed for both PC and console.  Indeed, most of the WMD members were PC owners - the daily/weekly builds during development were only available on PC.  Most of the devs are PC simmers.  These are the guys who produced GTR, GT Legends and GTR2.

I know what they produced chap, I was there at the begining and was asked to leave fairly quickly after criticising the early builds.  THe PC people who were involved were basically unpaid BETA testers and QA guys who paid to be involved. Their choice of course, but the game is so bug ridden, you have to ask.

My PC was second hand reconditioned and I can play just about anything on it, Grid Autosport on decent quality, RF2 aswell, so I think maybe your build is lacking something!

There's a lot more to PC gaming than €2500 Titan videocards, obviously. You might initially pay a little more for a console-equivalent set of hardware (even though that gap is quickly shriniking as current console hardware isn't all that impressive) but from there on you'll be paying significantly less for the games. Console games are very expensive in comparison, in part because a part of that goes back to Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft to keep the initial prices on their hardware low. As of today, the console version of Project Cars is selling for €70, while it was already down to €30 during the latest Steam Summer Sale on PC. Even if you only buy a handful of games a year, you'll quickly end up spending hundreds of euros/dollars more than a PC gamer buying and playing the same games.

That doesn't mean one is better than the other. They're just different. At the end of the day, to use that cliché, they're all just games meant to be entertaining.

Too bad you can't recreate a modern 3 class WEC race because all the necessary cars are there (P1, P2, GT), but the developers threw some other P1 cars to keep the R18 company. The Lotus lineup is very strong with 4 iconic Formula 1 cars with only the 72 lacking the classic livery. I can't think of many more F1 Lotuses to add except for the winged incarnations of the 49 or maybe the 88 . Perhaps it's time for one of the Indycar Lotuses.

I'm playing Project Cars with a Radeon 5850 from 2009, sure it's far from maximum graphics (I have one or two things on high, most medium I think, also I'm running at 900P), but it's pretty smooth and looks nice, I have no complains, the best part is that I'm using a microsoft wheel with force feedback from the late 90s lol and it works perfectly with this game, great FFB effects and effortless setup, a perfectly good wheel (way better than the one I have for sure) that someone bought for an Xbox 360 is worthless for the Xbox One, this kind of thing kills consoles for me.

I quite liked Project Cars, I played it on the PC (I have a pretty good system) and it looked awesome although I found their take on F1 to be poor.  The other series felt great though and I loved the Le Mans invitational event.

I wasn't a fan of the F1 cars either, especially how you can open your DRS where ever you want. Might as well just not include it in the game.

Yeah, that wasn't a great feature.  It just felt like they tacked that part of the game on without much thought.  Also I did not feel that they really handled the way I would expect, especially compared to the lower series featured.

I haven't really touched the Formula A much, but the slower Formula cars and the old F1s are fun to play with, I was having a lot of fun with the Lotus 72D a few days ago

Project Cars is not the most accurate game/simulator out there, but it's not to arcade like Shift 2 was, and it's the closest thing we have on the PC to GT and Forza, while it's more advanced than those it doesn't offer the same amount of cars, but I'm pretty happy with it, the game turned out better than I expected.

The trouble with Pcars is the lack of fixes for serious bugs,

I believe they have now given up and working on Pcars 2

Cars still stick together when the touch and the tracks still have landmines in them, Silverstone clasic is still so buggy its unusable, the list is endless.

Hello Asseto corsa good riddence Pcars

I think Project CARS was a good effort, but aside from the bugs (classic Silverstone pits are still broken today I think, major issues with the 24h Nurburgring layout too that have never been addressed) I have a few issues with it. First for a game that was marketed as a 'proper' sim, I don't think they ever quite nailed the handling. They can go on all they like (and they do!!) about how the tyre model and physics are more advanced than on Assetto Corsa but the bottom line for me is that it doesn't feel like it. The more powerful cars, the LMP1s etc, there doesn't feel like there's any weight to them, they're twitchy, they move too sharply, there's no feeling or grip on the road. The open wheelers, particularly the Formula A is all over the place. The Karts feel bloody terrible. It's a game. It's not a bad one, but to me it doesn't feel particularly like a proper sim until you get to things like the GT3 cars, which are really well done. AC just has a better feel. It's much more fun to hotlap the Nordschleife on, because you can feel the weight transfer, you can feel the tyre grip, it feels a bit organic and more like real life driving.

Second issue is the fact that SMS can come across pretty obnoxious and high and mighty (see their forum) whenever anyone dares to criticise their game, discuss bugs or heaven forbid say that they like AC. That despite the fact they haven't fixed some pretty bad bugs (lots of it on paid DLC) and made a number of promises about upcoming content that never happened. I think if I'd never visited their forum I'd probably feel a bit more positive about the game, but I find it hard to root for them or feel any great pride in a company that behave like they do to their customers. And I've never actually been involved myself in any of that stuff, just seen it.

Messy,

Do you play it with wheelset or gamepad? I've tried few time the game with PS4's pad and driving wheels just what you described. On the otherhand with wheel it's like different game.

I was a victim of speaking out (and being a little over eager to do so) on the WMD forums and was hailed as the devil incarnate.

While some of the things I said back then were silly and ill advised, the points I raised on numerous occasions before that were never really answered, as it was fairly obvious I was sceptical about the whole idea behind the game, the crowd funding, the claims of it being amazing when in fact it was a port originally of Shift 2.

It is and always was designed to be a console game, WMD wanted PC users to join in as they would do all the grinding, the BETA work, the QA, and you were paying for that privilege, while supposedly being involved in developing a game, when in reality unless you had coding or design experience that was relevant to the software they were using, you could do no such thing.

WMD's whole approach to criticism was to go on the attack, in forums, portals, other sims. They would have people patrolling comment areas on numerous websites and forums and would even get you banned or removed from those places for making comments about the game there.

That is the reason why a lot of the sim community railed against them and Mr Bell in particular who is a rather interesting specimen and whose approach fed down through the whole company sadly.

I have since played the game on console and on that platform for me it is excellent.

Messy, have a look in the controller settings and see if there's a steering rate - rfactor uses a similar thing so if you use a pad you can slow down the speed that it steers at, making it less twitchy - its a good way to try and smooth out 'sharp' steering, which usually translates to understeer.

Worth a look, just a thought (i don't own the game but am planning to finally get into a PS4 soon so it will be on the 'to buy' list)

thats only works as a stop gap, if you can adjust your car so it is understeering generally in the corners and stable on the back, then you have a chance, just don't make it so understeery that it takes an age to make it through a corner, just enough so the steering is more smooth while having the ability to get out of accidents quickly.

Dying on this game, I just got it and have done about 40 laps at bathurst in a mclaren12c gt3. Copied set up from the pcars community but still can barely do a lean lap, in fact just one of the 40 laps was not invalidated due to running off track!

I can't even lap slowly, it's almost harder to drive super slow. The cars don't turn in, as in at a, just chronic understeer all the time.

Alfisti,

It's been a while I have been playing this but sure you have driven couple of very cautious laps just to get freaking tyres hot enough?

Also, I remember you recently getting this game with PS4 for yourself *And kid of course!* and you are playing it with game pad?

When it was released it was painfull difficult to drive with game pad. Project Cars and Assetto Corsa pretty much needs wheel.

I've tried this with a wheel now and still don't really like it. It's a shame because on paper PCars looked like it was going to be so good. But in terms of handling etc, for me it really misses the mark. Assetto Corsa is light years better to play, even if in other respects PCars is a stronger package.

IT can be also due in game wheel settings. You can adjust them quite good margin. However, if keeping default handicaps on steering and such, it might make cars wheel unnatural.

Internet if full of guides for good settings but it eventually matters how settings suits for you.

Yeah I do a few slow ones but in a 12 lap stint yesterday I did one lap that wasn't disqualified and it was a 2:16, should be comfortably doing 2:07s and balls out in the 4s. I am on the absolute ragged edge at 2:16. Well , not edge as it's chronic understeer.

I read the forums and Opinion is that a controller is still fast just not as consistent as a wheel, so nfi what I am doing wrong.

To be more specific, if I don't take the absolute PERFECT line the car is undriveable, too slow and it turns in way too early and sharply, too fast and runs wide but there is no recovering and no margin at all, has to be perfect or I butcher the next two to three turns.

Admittedly bathurst is a tough place across the top, but I know the track well.

I think I have discovered the source of my problems, I knew something was drastically wrong. THere is a setting for the controller called "speed sensitivity", default is way too low (25) so no turn in at all as the controller was over compensating. Dialed it up to full (100) and the car was now loose. So now i have to start all over again and load the Bathurst settings for the McLaren GT3 (they seem very popular so they must work ok) and from there dial in my controller.

****ing annoying, I lost two days of ****ing about, i knew something was off.

So question, I bought the full pack supposedly with the DLC all pre-loaded but no V8 Supercar, where do i get it?  The GT3 is pretty damned close but has a bit too much downforce and laps about 4 seconds faster than a V8SC.

Very good times. Since I just bought Logitech G29 wheel  I tried out Project Cars as well. I took default setting McLaren 12C GT3 and had 4 laps. 3rd one was clean and had it as 2:13.

What a nice grip car!

Yeah it's a good car to drive. I am having some success now, loaded suggested controller settings and tweaked them a touch to my preference, I need the car a touch loose or there's just too much understeer. From there I loaded the bathurst esl settings from th pcars setup website, it's a pretty solid set up but I add a touch of downforce.

It's very time consuming because the controller settings REALLY affect the handling g and there three controller modes X 12 settings so 36 freaking settings to get right before you even setup the car!

Also with th controller, I cannot just hold the stick to the left on a long left turn, I need to flick left them let it recent research and repeat or severe understeer. Not sure if this is the case with the wheel.

Doing solid 11s at bathurst now but tbh still not very consistent.

RUF GT3 is killing me on some tracks. Only way to get a lap time from this car is slowish in then hard out as it wants to understeer if you go in too hard (engine on the rear and all that). Problem is, I am frying mhy rears. Hard tyres, soft tyres, i keep raising the pressures but fail after fail. After a few laps at monaco they are cooked.

Just bought a PS4 and Project Cars and I LOVE it!

Downloaded the IndyCar (US Car Pack) and the Lotus Expansion Pack.

Love the vintage F1 cars and the vintage tracks the most.

My son & I were racing at Road America in an IndyCar in a rainstorm this morning. Very cool...

Can't wait for Project Cars 2!

I need good tips to set up Lotus 98T for light rain - wet Spa. With current settings I can do on dry about 1:58, but slight changes for wet and ...2:40.

Nightmare to drive on wet since it oversteers and loses grip when coasting carefully corners.

Actually it doesn't lose grip at very slow speed...meaning low revs. But window between sluggish and monster is very narrow.

I eventually got workaround for that slight rain issue to just drive with slicks. Rain grooved tires need more wet track...

In the spirit of the Monaco Grand Prix, i tried to find the track in the racing games/sims i use, and ended up doing some laps with the Formula C at the "Azure" track in Project Cars...

The track is pretty nice, and doing the laps in-between FP1 and FP2, and the track feel pretty accurate (not that i have ever driven around monaco, or a "formula" car at all, although i do have some karting experience and have visited the Monaco Grand Prix in 2008 :p ).

Having not driven the formula c car before, its 300 horses and 6-700kg felt pretty fast. Also, heating the tyers for a lap is a must to get some grip around the slowest corners. Included a moment into turn 1 and there is some guardrail brushing during those 2 laps :)
