Qualifying is being shown live on Sky1 at 15.00 - 17.45 on Saturday (as well as on SkyF1) for anyone who doesn't have the sports channels but can watch Sky1

Watching Sky at brother in laws house. Do they always talk about things such as politics so much when the cars are on track?

They should just commentate on what's happening. I have no interest in their opinions while the session is underway, they've got hours of build up, cool down to talk about that stuff.

What the heck? Now they've gone to adverts! People pay for this..........

There's far too much waffly padding for my liking. That Lewis v Nico "STAT ATTACK" rubbish wouldn't go away. Oh, we've just been told again about poles. Picture quality is rubbish as well when you're used to BBC in HD.

Yes! And I don't know why! Reinstalled Java, changed settings, tried in different browsers, turned off firewall. All no help!

Anyone have the answer?!

I saw the qualifying session on Sky 1. I turned on when the coverage started and after 5 minutes decided to go do other stuff until the session actually started. I do miss having all races covered live, but I'm glad I didn't fork out extra money for this presentation. The words "oh, how the mighty have fallen" came to mind as I watch Brundle.

4 hours of on-track commentary for the practice sessions would be mind numbingly tedious. They're meant to be more about the banter and gossip. Proper commentary is for qualifying onwards.

Exactly. On the odd occasion I'm not at work for practice sessions, I do love listening to the commentary banter - they do it quite well. It is good background TV.

Spot on - I love having the F1 or Moto GP practice sessions on while working from home. It's the banter thats more interesting than whats going on on track. Helps pass the time.

I hate Crofty's "banter". It's usually puerile. Call me boring but I'd rather listen to proper F1 talk, like we get on 5 Live.

Me too, and James Allen and Allan McNish and whoever they have with them in the box are always super informative about both what is happening on the track and elsewhere in the sport.

Watched today's complete proceedings on the Beeb (as usual when it's available). Gets a thumbs up from me, and the Forum too was a good laugh.

Thankfully, I will be able to compare, as I recorded Sky as well, so when the end of season withdrawal symptoms start kicking in (later this week), I will promise to be a good boy and sit and watch all of their coverage too, so I can have a balanced opinion in the end (that the Beeb is miles better, and EJ is a little genius with a huge boat, and some smaller ones which are still huge to me, which means he's enjoyed a lot more success at high level business than most of us will ever do, and who fraternises with the people who really know what's what in F1).

So, Sky doesn't have much to live up to......

(Although having said all that, aren't we lucky to be able to nit-pick between two pretty good offerings.)

I enjoyed BBC today. Their intro montage with the two kids wasn't as cheesy as I expected it to be and the one at the end was really good.

Post race was fun. EJ getting hit with the pie in particular and dragging Lauda from his live RTL slot. The team seems to work really well together now.

Saw our Mr Sith loitering in the Mercedes garage on the red button coverage.

Thought the BBC forum was really good. They come across as being part of the whole thing rather than just commenting on it.

Bravo!

I watched the entire BBC coverage. Including the build up and the forum. I think they did a masterful job.

Not once was I tempted to turn over to SKY's coverage..

I've seen most of both and thought sky's was miles better in almost every conceivable way. The only crap thing was that mental thing with the piano and the actor

Erm apart from the commentary actually. When Ben edwards is on form he seems to have a much better idea of what's going on than croft/ brundle

I've watched both Sky and BBC F1 coverage. I enjoyed both Sky and BBC F1 coverage. Both do some great features on teams and drivers and I will continue to watch both Sky and BBC F1 coverage in the future. I'm glad there is sooo much F1 coverage on my TV
(I really need to get a life, or more sleep :p)

Myself and a few friends decided to go to the pub to watch the last race of the season (sadly not with the guys here) and it was surprisingly busy. I asked a few there what coverage we were watching and the barman decided to announce a vote. The BBC got the vote so we watched that and I have to say it was very good indeed. The post race forum was brilliant and as others have said you felt like they were part of the celebrations rather than awkwardly stood there observing it. EJ getting a pie in the face from an old Jordan employee now at Mercedes was a funny highlight. It really soaked up the atmosphere rather than being too serious about analysing the race IMO. I like the BBC interviews too as they ask the more pressing questions without annoying the personalities answering and you get a sense they have a good rapport around the paddock for this sort of thing.

All in all a good year for the BBC and I am happy to say I haven't had the urge to watch the Sky coverage for a long time now. I am sure they are doing a good job for their select audience and hopefully the BBC will maintain this level of quality and will extend their contract as they are the best source for F1 in this country. Long may it continue. :)
