No one's going to buy a Jenson Button without a head

Why not - many race drivers seem to leave their brains in a bucket when they leave the pit lane!  In the 1970's Oulton Park used to have one placed by the last pit garage.

Good to see Karun on the F1 show the other day. I wish he was able to be on TV more often.

Is David Croft going to mention his driving of a Lotus F1 car now every week? I'm probably being overly harsh as I admit to not being able to stand the man but please give it a rest.

To be fair if I got to drive an F1 car as a non-racing driver I wouldn't shut up about it until the day I die.

I don't know why people still kid themselves that the BBC would actually want F1 back fully live.

Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't even bid next time.

I think the suggestion is that Channel 4 might be in the running, I don't know whether that's the case.

My hope is that none of the free to air channels want it and that Bernie has to beg them to take it.

Edit: And that the BBC take it back

My hope is that the TV rights somehow lapse into the public domain and we get to put on a broadcast ourselves.

Nothing says FP1 at Melbourne like 3 hours of white noise because no one has a clue how the sound mixer works.

It is probably more of a hope than an expectation. The BBC aren't interested in paying the absurd fee Bernie wants for F1, so I agree I am expecting them to not bother next time around. It will be disastrous for F1 in Britain if none of the FTA broadcasters pick it up and whatever popularity it has now, will be pushed further down the scale if Sky are the only channel showing it. I won't bother going out of my way to watch it any more and will probably enjoy the more nostalgic side of the sport, rather than keeping up with what is happening currently.

Wasn't a large part of the reason BBC dropped the full coverage due to the sports budget being slashed? They even dropped the Grand National.

It sure was. It makes the fee for the F1 even more illogical from the Beeb's point or view and ultimately we lose out if they drop it altogether. I think in 2018 the BBC will attempt to negotiate the fee but will find out that its still way over priced. I can see the Beeb pulling out and Channel 4 trying to get it. We will have adverts every 20 mins and if their Paralympic coverage is anything to go by, we will be faced with a sub standard product. Sky refuse to supply a service to Freeview and FreeSat viewers so the situation is not going to improve any time soon.

My thoughts entirely - not having Sky (I don't actually have any form of broadcast TV, I only watch via iPlayer, etc - and I do maintain a TV license to watch the Beeb live), I wander round to a friends house for the GPs - if none are available via FTA, I'll inevitably drift away.

I know this is odd, as when I started being a fan, there was no TV coverage, but now, I tend to expect it.

They didn't drop the Grand National, C4 bid more than they did. I'm not sure they would have bid more even if the budget had been bigger.

You normally have to sign up for a year. Just beware that if you get F1 via the legacy pack you could lose that if you take the offer and later drop it.
