Saw this in a banner ad on the main page for the Autosport website before coming here. After checking out their site, I'm confused.

Firstly, I've never heard of this. I knew a Dutch company was trying to bring back A1GP. Looks like this is what they did.

Secondly, sounds kinda like the MotoRock thing Champ Car tried back in 2003, that failed miserably.

I mean it has just about everything needed to bring people in.

  • DJ's for the younger music fans
  • Bikes for the bike people
  • Stock cars and legends for the close, wheel banging racing
  • Ex-A1GP cars running under A1GP style rules

Um... but I thought AutoGP teams bought all the old A1GP Zyteks? And it doesn't look from the site that they have the Ferrari's.

Like new series', but car counts in similar European classes (i.e. AutoGP) have been relatively weak, and the other main junior level series at this level (FR3.5 and GP2) are relatively strong with major backing from F1 and Renault and don't look to be going anywhere any time soon.

More of less, just wanted to point the series out. No opinions on my end of it. Sounds like a fun weekend at some really good European venues (Monza, Nurburgring, Zolder to name a few).

They announced it in September, I think. The guy behind this is Loek Bodelier, a former Dutch bike racer. Basically he thinks that, since the most popular motorsports are F1 and MotoGP, combining F1-style and MotoGP-style racing with a big entertainment package will bring in crowds, especially whole families. I'm not sure it's going to work, but worth a try, i guess...

And yes, they use the Lola-Zyteks from A1GP and since Auto GP also uses Lola-Zyteks, they hope to have some Auto GP teams join the Formula Acceleration.

The organisation have 18 Lola Zytek cars, but also Auto GP teams could join the series with a maximum of 26 cars.

When MP Motorsport entered Auto GP in 2011, they did it with a own car which was being updated by Coloni. All other teams had the cars from Coloni. And MP is heavily involved in the Acceleration series as well, as Daniel de Jong's father is one of the financiers.

I spoke to the press woman and she said, that the results of the nations in all series will be merged and that for every nation there will be a manager to help hiring sponsors from that specific country. But a team must not fill all cars in all series, so for example MP Motorsport must not enter FA1 cars and bikes both, it could just be FA1 cars and the bikes will be entered by another team - and both results will be merged for the nation result (for example from Netherland).
