Watch out Martin, Ron is back!

During February, I will articulate a new Group strategy and implement the organisational structure best suited to achieving it.

Ron speak for I'm putting the house in order...

Ron Dennis spoke to the team on Thursday afternoon and said that the name of the team principal would be announced next month. My spies tell me that he told the staff that “there will be change” and that “McLaren will win again”.

According to Saward: http://joesaward.wor...14/01/16/13806/

OH SH...... !! Ron is back as group CEO!

I wonder if he will allow Martin to stay as TP with him (Ron) maintaining a supervisory role or will he just pitch him altogether.

Could also be total rubbish.

Certainly a change at the top like that will create uncertainty, difficulty, and affect performance of all sorts of individuals across the business.  Change is like that.

Change is always a bit painful but a established and strong team like McLaren F1 is strong enough to withstand a change of leadership.

A trusted MD or TD maybe.. you never know.. While Ross would be a very good replacement in my opinion. He may have signed elsewhere or decided that the fishing is just too good to give up again.

Who knows .... ?

Benson does not know the difference between CEO and COO.

MW is COO I believe.

Edit: Busnisweek does list him as CEO and Director of Mclaren Group Ltd.

Alan Baldwin @alanbaldwinf1 5m

My understanding is that the team principal situation will be clarified next month after a strategic review of the whole group.

Predicted this six months ago ... Whit-Hindsight's sacking, that is.

Ron coming back/Brawn joining is a bonus.

.... and it wasnt a hard prediction either.... once it was clear that there would be no podiums last season this was always on the cards. ... surprised that more folks weren't on this bandwagon.

Now we just need LH to come back home

If MW made ultimate decision on a brand new car last year then this is his just reward. Utterly bizarre decision. Wouldn't be surprised to see Sam Michael booted out too.

Hes still running the auto side...and now as group CEO he may be stretched a little thin.. But he may take it on himself you never know.  They are going to do a review. In my opinion he may :

Stay with Whitmarsh if they have a good working relationship with Ron being a bit more supervisory

Hire Ross

Hire from within a senior trusted management figure.

or take it on himself.. ( I don't think this is a good idea)

We will see...

Write up of the news by James Allen. Nothing hugely new but does include this:

At the end of last year Dennis and Whitmarsh were engaged in a struggle for power, but a shift in shareholder sentiment seems to have swung things back Dennis’ way.

Interesting for the open way he is now talking of past power struggles at the top of the team.

This previous RC thread looked at it all a bit, with Hamilton leaving the team possibly being something of an indication that there was disharmony at the top: http://forums.autosp...-sign-hamilton/

so ... does that means no FAlonso in MacHonda in 2015???

also, IF MW goes, does that mean JB's on shaky grounds too???

i'd root for that (if RD comes back)  ... The Return of The King

One of those, I can only speculate but I wouldn't put any money on Whitmarsh staying as TP. Maybe Ron back till Brawn finishes his 'fishing leave'?

Well, I guess that means, goodbye Alonso to McLaren in 2015. About the rest, I will wait to see if there are changes in the team, to get a clearer picture. I know Martin has so far failed to win a title, but he isn't responsible for designing the cars.

It was only a matter of time. First order of the day is to sack whoever made the decision to base the 2013 car on an unrelated concept. Can't see Sam Michael being kept in the fold either.

Well, everyone can draw their own conclusions on this but Ron recently said he wouldn't block such a move.

...asked if he would object to the Spaniard returning, Dennis said: "One has to recognise the first objective of any grand prix team is to win races. Whatever obstacles sit between a team wanting to win and winning, be it engineering, fiscal or human issues, you resolve them. You never say never."

Brawn in as TP in place of Whitmarsh then?  However, with all the internal strife that has been apparently going on would Brawn be interested in a similar situation to that of Mercedes where he was always having to watch over his shoulder and didn't have the control he desired?

Will get some Ron Speak again.

"McLaren Mercedes collective organisational unit travelled to the Spanish track Jerez for a two-24 hour temporal period test. The collective organisational unit will bring its experiment biological component Jenson Button for aerodynamic tests in conjunction with the MP4-29 initiationing today, Wednesday. The collective organisational unit will perform a standard unimpeded horizontal section-linear indifelineion aerodynamic experiment at the Spanish Island in the Mediterranean Sea. "

Ron wouldn't, but Alonso certainly would. He's made it quite clear who he blames for 2007.

And Whitmarsh playing footsie with Alonso probably had a lot to do with Dennis wanting to make a move.

TBH, throwing away a very probable WDC through operational brainfarts, a sudden and very sharp downturn in reliability......... and a bizarre decision to chuck the joint fastest car on the grid in the bin for a completely new "one year only" concept should be enough for anyone to get the sack. Combine that with losing a bonafide top-tier driver (which ironically Ron and his "ways" had a large part in), then something's got to give....... Or so Honda would (should....... will) be saying........

I'd imagine that Ron and Honda are hoping that the W05 is a total dog........

The mere fact that RD is back taking a leadership role and so publicly means there is no doubt that MW is on the way out. Probably end up in an non-exec position at McClaren.

If Brawn says no to TP, the only one left to take it on is RD himself. Sounds like he's been given a mandate to do what he wants.

Change is always a bit painful but a established and strong team like McLaren F1 is strong enough to withstand a change of leadership.

Sure but it means that dropping Whitmarsh won't move the team forwards in and of itself, in fact there may be a detrimental effect which will take time to settle down.

I think lots of people are seeing this as good news, and it may very well be, but not in the short term.

Anyway, we really don't know if there's any 'news' to be discussing on that point.

I fully agree with you guys, but sometimes, it's not the coach's fault, that the players aren't playing well, sometimes, the players just aren't good enough, or are doing a lousy job. With this, I'm not saying that Martin shouldn't take responsibility in last results, I was just saying that he isn't the only responsible. That's why I said that I would wait for further news about what it is going to change.

I know Martin has so far failed to win a title, but he isn't responsible for designing the cars.

He is responsible for setting up the structure that brought a series of underachievement over a long period, ranging from the 2009 car, the abandoned octopus exhaust, the farcical number of operational mistakes in 2012 and then throwing away an exceptional 2012 car to go 'radical' for 2013.  McLaren have stumbled from one issue to the other over recent seasons, and when they do finally hit the sweet spot with the car as in 2012 they then suffer a mystifying run of internal cock-ups.
