From what I remember and have been told, Steve Cull came to serious grief at Olivers Mount. After fairing bashing going into Mount side, unknown to Steve he'd "lost" his front brake lever(??). Going straight on at speed at Farm chicane, hit a rider exiting Farm (??) Am I right in this?? I understand he recovered from some horrific injurys......and didn't ride again?? How is he now?? Whats he up to??

I saw him at a Carrowdore 100 evening about four or five years ago. He was in the audience, sitting not that far from me, and got a round of applause by those gathered. He had been ill with, I think, throat cancer.

Thanks Amanda 1978. I was unaware of his further health problems!!He had been ill with, I think, throat cancer.
I would like to know what year Steve had his accident on the Mount, I assume it was late 90s?? I do know I was at the meeting, prob "up top"......Memorial/Mount/Mount side, no real idea of year or meeting tho.
Cheers, Steve F

I thought it was the first meeting to incorporate the new chicane, or certainly one of the early meetings with the chicane, which would put it early 90's, I think he collided with a guy I know called Geoff Baldock who escaped serious injury, I certainly remember it all happening but cant put an exact year on it.

He lives with his family in Bangor, Co. Down (about 10 miles from me) and attended the Motorcyclist of the Year Awards in Belfast on Jan 18th, so he's alive and well and seems to be recovered from his cancer. Other than that I'm afraid I don't know a lot about his racing career. I certainly know the name from his Road Racing days but that#s about it.
