Not sure that ousted is the word unless he was pushed out.
Posted 24 January 2014 - 09:50
Insane. What a move by Macca to shake things up.

Eric Boullier to McLaren?

Posted 24 January 2014 - 09:54
So the crazy rumors were true after all? I must admit I would never have believed this.
Posted 24 January 2014 - 09:54
Ousted? Not quite.
I feel sorry for Lotus.

Breaking: Eric Boullier set to become McLaren's new Formula 1 team principal after quitting Lotus goo.gl/Ixr06V
Posted 24 January 2014 - 09:56
Ousted would seem to be a very wrong word to describe this!
Posted 24 January 2014 - 09:56
What!?
No one saw that one coming.
I guess he made an impression on Dennis.
Posted 24 January 2014 - 09:57
Speculation time: since he appears not to have a gardening leave does it mean he also wasn't paid ?

The ouster has been ousted!
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:00
Interesting developments all around. I think Boullier will be a good replacment for Whitmarsh, he's more experienced as a TP than Sam Michael.
Lotus are losing people left, right and center. Wonder what will happen to the team, will they even show up come the first race? Even if they do, they will probably be a midfield car at best.
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:00
Lotus will be a trainwreck now.
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:03
The Lotus situation made chuckle here and there, but now.... this is pathetic, I feel really bad for the team.

Wow! Good news for Mclaren, less so for Lotus.
Wonder what's going through Grosjean and Maldonado's heads now ...
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:04
Lotus is SOOOO screwed....
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:07
Wow, just wow.
That is vintage Ron Dennis
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:08
Perhaps he was tired of waiting for his paycheck in the mail.

Wonder what PDVSA make of all this too . . . Maldo did try to persuade them to go with Sauber . . .

Holy crap I am stunned. Didn't see this coming at all.
French team principal at McLaren sounds kinda weird. F1 is international this kind of thing shouldn't matter but I'm not sure everyone at McLaren will be happy with it.
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:09
Bouiller will be taking some good insight in to the Renault with him to McLaren...
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:09
Mclaren must be impressed on how Eric handled the whole affairs regarding Lotus' situations.
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:09
Grosjean to Macca next year?
He's crazy ****, but I think he's perfect for McLaren atm.

Boullier Transform(ed)
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:10
Wow....This season is turning out to be EPIC (and is yet to start). Whitemarsh leaves and Eric comes in, Lopez TP @ Lotus, 8 teams changed their drivers, New Engines/powertrains, new front wings,.......Ufff.
Can't wait for the season to start
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:10
this is pure entertainment! no one saw that coming?

Speculation time: since he appears not to have a gardening leave does it mean he also wasn't paid ?
I would make the same speculation.
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:13
Bouiller will be taking some good insight in to the Renault with him to McLaren...
Him and about the 100 other people which have fled Lotus in the last few months.
There now has to be a serious doubt over if Lotus will even make it to the grid in Oz.

The sooner McLaren stops trying to be "team UK", the better. For me at least.

So the captain of the sinking ship that is lotus is now jumping ship to McLaren to take the helm.
This is good news for McLaren?
I'm not sure what happened with the whole financial situation at Lotus but isn't Boullier largely to blame?
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:14
Now only thing needed is that Williams anounces that Martin whitmarsh is joining them!

I wonder whether any more Lotus staff will follow Boullier to Woking?
Good to see that Genii have decided to appoint someone with lots of motorsport experience to the role of team principal.[/sarcasm]

Yes please.

Half-expect "Grosjean to McLaren" to be part of 2015 silly season rumours, since Eric is his manager. Conflict of interests? Briatore did it all the time, but how does McLaren culture accept this?

Tastes like dividend with a bit of salary on the side.

what by lieing, denying al the things going at lotus and saying that everthing was fine. i can see lotus folding before melbourne now to be honest. id be well annoyed if i was maldonado.
Posted 24 January 2014 - 10:21
Well it was coming...a month ago there was some speculation about him having discussions with FI and at that point it seemed evident that he had had enough and was searching for new opportunities. Macca di surprise me thou, I was expecting more int the line of midgridteams but good for him!! I think he deserves a chance on a more stable team

It's Ron's show

That's difficult to say without knowing more. It's ultimately the owners of the team to set the budget and overall strategy. Boullier may have run stuff on a day to day basis, but it seem he wasn't in control of everything (drivers, etc).

Perhaps he was tired of waiting for his paycheck in the mail.
I'm guessing that is the legal reason why personnel are able to leave immediately. If you are not paid, you are not bound by contract.
